Domarboken 13

1 Men Israels barn gjorde åter vad ont var i HERRENS ögon; då gav HERREN dem i filistéernas hand, i fyrtio år.

And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2 I Sorga levde nu en man av daniternas släkt, vid namn Manoa; hans hustru var ofruktsam och hade icke fött några barn.

And there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name [is] Manoah, his wife [is] barren, and hath not borne;

3 Men HERRENS ängel uppenbarade sig för hustrun och sade till henne: "Se, du är ofruktsam och har icke fött några barn, men du skall bliva havande och föda en son.

and a messenger of Jehovah appeareth unto the woman, and saith unto her, 'Lo, I pray thee, thou [art] barren, and hast not borne; when thou hast conceived, then thou hast borne a son.

4 Tag dig nu till vara, så att du icke dricker vin eller starka drycker ej heller äter något orent.

And, now, take heed, I pray thee, and do not drink wine, and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing,

5 Ty se, du skall bliva havande och föda en son, på vilkens huvud ingen rakkniv skall komma, ty gossen skall vara en Guds nasir allt ifrån moderlivet; och han skall göra begynnelse till att frälsa Israel ur filistéernas hand."

for, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.'

6 Då gick hustrun in och omtalade detta för sin man och sade: "En gudsman kom till mig; han såg ut såsom en Guds ängel, mycket fruktansvärd. Jag frågade honom icke varifrån han var, och sitt namn lät han mig icke veta.

And the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, 'A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance [is] as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he [is], and his name he hath not declared to me;

7 Och han sade till mig: 'Se, du skall bliva havande och föda en son; drick nu icke vin eller starka drycker och ät icke något orent, ty gossen skall vara en Guds nasir, från moderlivet ända till sin död.'"

and he saith to me, Lo, thou art pregnant, and bearing a son, and now do not drink wine and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb till the day of his death.'

8 Och Manoa bad till HERREN och sade: "Ack Herre, låt gudsmannen som du sände hit åter komma till oss, för att han må lära oss huru vi skola göra med gossen som skall födas."

And Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, 'O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.'

9 Och Gud hörde Manoas röst; Guds ängel kom åter till hans hustru, när hon en gång satt ute på marken och hennes man Manoa icke var hos henne.

And God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she [is] sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

10 Då skyndade hustrun strax åstad och berättade det för sin man; hon sade till honom: "Mannen som kom till mig häromdagen har uppenbarat sig för mig."

and the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, 'Lo, he hath appeared unto me — the man who came on [that] day unto me.'

11 Manoa stod upp och följde sin hustru; och när han kom till mannen, frågade han honom: "Är du den man som förut talade med min hustru?" Han svarade: "Ja."

And Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, 'Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?' and he saith, 'I [am].'

12 Då sade Manoa: "När det som du har sagt går i fullbordan, vad är då att iakttaga med gossen? Hur skall man göra med honom?"

And Manoah saith, 'Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth — and his work?'

13 HERRENS ängel svarade Manoa "Din hustru skall taga sig till vara för allt varom jag har talat med henne.

And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, 'Of all that I said unto the woman let her take heed;

14 Hon skall icke äta något som ha vuxit på vinträd, och vin eller starka drycker får hon icke dricka, ej heller får hon äta något orent. Allt vad jag har bjudit henne skall hon hålla."

of anything which cometh out from the wine-vine she doth not eat, and wine and strong drink she doth not drink, and any unclean thing she doth not eat; all that I have commanded her she doth observe.'

15 Och Manoa sade till HERRENS ängel: "Låt oss få hålla dig kvar, så vilja vi tillreda en killing och sätta fram för dig."

And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, 'Let us detain thee, we pray thee, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.'

16 Men HERRENS ängel svarade Manoa: "Om du ock håller mig kvar, skall jag dock icke äta av din mat; men om du vill tillreda ett brännoffer, så offra detta åt HERREN." Ty Manoa förstod icke att det var HERRENS ängel.

And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, 'If thou detain me — I do not eat of thy bread; and if thou prepare a burnt-offering — to Jehovah thou dost offer it;' for Manoah hath not known that He [is] a messenger of Jehovah.

17 Och Manoa sade till HERRENS ängel: "Vad är ditt namn? Säg oss det, för att vi må kunna ära dig, när det som du har sagt går i fullbordan."

And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, 'What [is] thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.'

18 HERRENS ängel sade till honom: "Varför frågar du efter mitt namn? Det är alltför underbart."

And the messenger of Jehovah saith to him, 'Why [is] this — thou dost ask for My name? — and it [is] Wonderful.'

19 Och Manoa tog killingen med tillhörande spisoffer och lade upp den på klippan åt HERREN. Då lät han något underbart ske i Manoas och hans hustrus åsyn.

And Manoah taketh the kid of the goats, and the present, and offereth on the rock to Jehovah, and He is doing wonderfully, and Manoah and his wife are looking on,

20 När lågan steg upp från altaret mot himmelen, for nämligen HERRENS ängel upp, i lågan från altaret. Då Manoa och hans hustru sågo detta, föllo de ned till jorden på sitt ansikte

and it cometh to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Jehovah goeth up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth,

21 Sedan visade sig HERRENS ängel icke mer för Manoa och hans hustru. Då förstod Manoa att det hade varit HERRENS ängel.

and the messenger of Jehovah hath not added again to appear unto Manoah, and unto his wife, then hath Manoah known that He [is] a messenger of Jehovah.

22 Och Manoa sade till sin hustru: "Nu måste vi dö, eftersom vi hava sett Gud."

And Manoah saith unto his wife, 'We certainly die, for we have seen God.'

23 Men hans hustru svarade honom: "Om HERREN hade velat döda oss, så hade han icke tagit emot något brännoffer och spisoffer av vår hand, och icke låtit oss se allt detta, ej heller hade han nu låtit oss höra sådant."

And his wife saith to him, 'If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as [at this] time caused us to hear [anything] like this.'

24 Därefter födde hans hustru en son och gav honom namnet Simson; och gossen växte upp, och HERREN välsignade honom.

And the woman beareth a son, and calleth his name Samson, and the youth groweth, and Jehovah doth bless him,

25 Och HERRENS Ande begynte att verka på honom, medan han var i Dans läger, mellan Sorga och Estaol.

and the Spirit of Jehovah beginneth to move him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
