2 Krönikeboken 20
1 Därefter kommo Moabs barn och Ammons barn och med dem en del av ammoniterna för att strida mot Josafat.
And it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 Och man kom och berättade detta för Josafat och sade: »En stor hop kommer mot dig från landet på andra sidan havet, från Aram, och de äro redan i Hasason-Tamar (det är En-Gedi).»
And they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, 'Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they [are] in Hazezon-Tamar — it [is] En-Gedi.'
3 Då blev Josafat förskräckt och vände sin håg till att söka HERREN; och han lät lysa ut en fasta över hela Juda.
And Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;
4 Och Juda församlade sig för att söka hjälp hos HERREN; ja, från alla Juda städer kom man för att söka HERREN.
and Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.
5 Och Josafat trädde upp i Juda mäns och Jerusalems församling i HERRENS hus, framför den nya förgården,
And Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,
6 och sade: »HERRE, våra fäders Gud, är icke du Gud i himmelen och den som råder över alla hednafolkens riken? I din hand är kraft och makt; och ingen finnes, som kan stå dig emot.
and saith, 'O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou — God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand [is] power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.
7 Var det icke du, vår Gud, som fördrev detta lands inbyggare för ditt folk Israel och gav det åt Abrahams, din väns, säd för evig tid?
'Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,
8 De fingo bo där, och de byggde dig där en helgedom åt ditt namn, i det de sade:
and they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,
9 'Om något ont kommer över oss, svärd, straffdom eller pest eller hungersnöd, så vilja vi träda upp inför detta hus och inför dig, ty ditt namn är i detta hus; och vi vilja ropa till dig i vår nöd, och du skall då höra och hjälpa.'
If evil doth come upon us — sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine — we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name [is] in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.
10 Se därför nu huru Ammons barn och Moab och folket i Seirs bergsbygd -- genom vilkas område du icke tillstadde Israel att gå, när de kommo från Egyptens land, varför de ock togo en omväg bort ifrån dem och icke förgjorde dem --
'And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,
11 se huru dessa nu vedergälla oss, i det att de komma för att förjaga oss ur det land som är din besittning, och som du har givit oss till besittning.
and lo, they are recompensing to us — to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.
12 Du, vår Gud, skall du icke hålla dom över dem? Ty vi förmå intet mot denna stora hop som kommer emot oss, och själva veta vi icke vad vi skola göra, utan till dig se våra ögon.»
'O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee [are] our eyes.'
13 Och hela Juda stod där inför HERREN med sina späda barn, sina hustrur och söner.
And all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.
14 Då kom HERRENS Ande mitt i församlingen över Jahasiel, son till Sakarja, son till Benaja, son till Jegiel, son till Mattanja, en levit, av Asafs söner,
And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,
15 och han sade: »Akten härpå, alla I av Juda, och I Jerusalems invånare, och du konung Josafat. Så säger HERREN till eder: Frukten icke och varen icke förfärade för denna stora hop, ty striden är icke eder, utan Guds.
and he saith, 'Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you [is] the battle, but for God.
16 Dragen i morgon ned mot dem. De draga då upp på Hassishöjden, och I skolen träffa dem vid andan av dalen, framför Jeruels öken.
To-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Men därvid bliver det icke eder sak att strida. I skolen allenast träda fram och stå stilla och se på, huru HERREN frälsar eder, I av Juda och Jerusalem. Frukten icke och varen icke förfärade. Dragen i morgon ut mot dem, och HERREN skall vara med eder.»
Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem — be not afraid nor fear ye — to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah [is] with you.'
18 Då böjde Josafat sig ned med ansiktet mot jorden, och alla Juda män och Jerusalems invånare föllo ned för HERREN och tillbådo HERREN.
And Jehoshaphat boweth — face to the earth — and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.
19 Och de av leviterna, som tillhörde kehatiternas och koraiternas barn, stodo upp och lovade HERREN, Israels Gud, med hög och stark röst.
And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.
20 Men bittida följande morgon drogo de ut till Tekoas öken. Och när de drogo ut, trädde Josafat fram och sade: »Hören mig, I av Juda och I Jerusalems invånare. Haven tro på HERREN, eder Gud, så skolen I hava ro. Och tron på hans profeter, så skolen I bliva lyckosamma.»
And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, 'Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.'
21 Och sedan han hade rådfört sig med folket, ställde han upp män som skulle sjunga till HERRENS ära och lova honom i helig skrud, under det att de drogo ut framför den väpnade hären; de skulle sjunga: »Tacken HERREN, ty hans nåd varar evinnerligen.»
And he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed [men], and saying, 'Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age [is] His kindness.'
22 Och just som de begynte med sången och lovet, lät HERREN ett angrepp ske bakifrån på Ammons barn och Moab och folket ifrån Seirs bergsbygd, dem som hade kommit mot Juda; och de blevo slagna.
And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,
23 Och Ammons barn och Moab reste sig mot folket ifrån Seirs bergsbygd och gåvo dem till spillo och förgjorde dem; och när de hade gjort ände på folket ifrån Seir, hjälptes de åt att nedgöra varandra.
and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.
24 När sedan Juda män kommo upp på höjden, varifrån man kunde se ut över öknen, och vände sig mot fiendernas hop, fingo de se dessa ligga döda på jorden, och ingen hade undkommit.
And Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they [are] carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,
25 Och när Josafat begav sig dit med sitt folk för att plundra och taga byte från dem, funno de där en myckenhet av gods och av döda kroppar och av dyrbara ting; och de togo for sig så mycket att de icke kunde bära det. Och de fortsatte plundringen i tre dagar; så stort var bytet.
and Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it [is] abundant.
26 Men på fjärde dagen församlade de sig i Berakadalen; där lovade de HERREN, och därav fick det stället namnet Berakadalen, såsom det heter ännu i dag.
And on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore they have called the name of that place, 'Valley of Blessing,' unto this day.
27 Därefter vände alla Judas och Jerusalems män, med Josafat i spetsen, glada tillbaka igen till Jerusalem; ty HERREN hade berett dem glädje genom vad som hade skett med deras fiender.
And they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Jehovah hath made them rejoice over their enemies.
28 Och de drogo in i Jerusalem med psaltare, harpor och trumpeter och tågade till HERRENS hus.
And they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.
29 Och en förskräckelse ifrån Gud kom över alla de främmande rikena, när de hörde att HERREN hade stritt mot Israels fiender.
And there is a fear of God on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Jehovah hath fought with the enemies of Israel,
30 Och Josafats rike hade nu ro, ty hans Gud lät honom få lugn på alla sidor.
and the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his God giveth rest to him round about.
31 Så regerade Josafat över Juda. han var trettiofem år gammal, när han blev konung, och han regerade tjugufem år i Jerusalem. Hans moder hette Asuba, Silhis dotter.
And Jehoshaphat reigneth over Judah, a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
32 Och han vandrade på sin fader Asas väg, utan att vika av ifrån den; han gjorde nämligen vad rätt var i HERRENS ögon.
And he walketh in the way of his father Asa, and hath not turned aside from it, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.
33 Dock blevo offerhöjderna icke avskaffade, och ännu hade folket icke vänt sina hjärtan till sina fäders Gud.
Only, the high places have not turned aside, and still the people have not prepared their heart for the God of their fathers.
34 Vad nu mer är att säga om Josafat, om hans första tid såväl som om hans sista, det finnes upptecknat i Jehus, Hananis sons, krönika, som är upptagen i boken om Israels konungar.
And the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, lo, they are written among the matters of Jehu son of Hanani, who hath been mentioned on the book of the kings of Israel.
35 Men sedan förband sig Josafat, Juda konung, med Ahasja, Israels konung, fastän denne var ogudaktig i sina gärningar;
And after this hath Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (he did wickedly in [so] doing),
36 han förband sig med honom för att bygga skepp som skulle gå till Tarsis. Och de byggde skepp i Esjon-Geber.
and he joineth him with himself to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they make ships in Ezion-Geber,
37 Då profeterade Elieser, Dodavahus son, från Maresa, mot Josafat; han sade: »Därför att du har förbundit dig med Ahasja, skall HERREN låta ditt företag bliva om intet.» Och somliga av skeppen ledo skeppsbrott, så att de icke kunde gå till Tarsis. Hebr berekú.
and prophesy doth Eliezer son of Dodavah, of Mareshah, against Jehoshaphat, saying, 'For thy joining thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath broken up thy works;' and the ships are broken, and have not retained [power] to go unto Tarshish.
