2 Krönikeboken 32

1 Efter denna handel och trohet kom Sanherib, Konungen i Assur, och drog in i Juda, och lägrade sig för de fasta städer, och hade i sinnet, att han ville taga det in.

And after these things and this faithful dealing, came Sennacherim king of the Assyrians, and he came to Juda, and encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to take them for himself.

2 Då Jehiskia såg, att Sanherib kom, och hans ansigte stod till att strida emot Jerusalem,

And Ezekias saw that Sennacherim was come, and [that] his face [was set] to fight against Jerusalem.

3 Vardt han till råds med sina öfversta och väldiga, att de skulle öfvertäcka vattnen af källorna, som utanför staden voro; och de hulpo honom.

And he took counsel with his elders and his mighty [men] to stop the wells of water which were without the city: and they helped him.

4 Och sig församlade mycket folk, och öfvertäckte alla källor och bäcker midt i landena, och sade, att de Konungar af Assur icke skola mycket vatten finna, när de komma.

And he collected many people, and stopped the wells of water, and the river that flowed through the city, saying, Lest the king of Assyria come, and find much water, and strengthen [himself].

5 Och han tog styrko till sig, och byggde igen alla murar, som förfallne voro, och gjorde torn deruppå; och byggde ändå derutanföre en annan mur. Och Millo gjorde han fast i Davids stad, och lät göra många värjor och sköldar;

And Ezekias strengthened [himself], and built all the wall that had been pulled down, and the towers, and another wall in front without, and fortified the strong place of the city of David, and prepared arms in abundance.

6 Och skickade höfvitsmän till strids med folket; och han församlade dem till sig på den breda gatona vid stadsporten, och talade hjerteliga till dem, och sade:

And he appointed captains of war over the people, and they were gathered to [meet] him to the open place of the gate of the valley, and he encouraged them, saying,

7 Varer tröste och vid godt mod; frukter eder intet, och gifver eder intet för Konungenom af Assur, eller för all den hop, som när honom är; ty med oss är en större än med honom.

Be strong and courageous, and fear not, neither be dismayed before the King of Assyria, and before all the nation that [is] with him: for [there are] more with us than with him.

8 Med honom är en köttslig arm; men med oss är Herren vår Gud, att han skall hjelpa oss, och föra våra strid. Och folket förlät sig på Jehiskia, Juda Konungs, ord.

With him [are] arms of flesh; but with us [is] the Lord our God to save [us], and to fight our battle. And the people were encouraged at the words of Ezekias king of Juda.

9 Derefter sände Sanherib, Konungen i Assur, sina tjenare till Jerusalem, ty han låg för Lachis, och all hans magt med honom, till Jehiskia, Juda Konung, och till hela Juda, som i Jerusalem var, och lät säga honom:

And afterward Sennacherim king of the Assyrians sent his servants to Jerusalem; and [he went] himself against Lachis, and all his army with him, and sent to Ezekias king of Juda, and to all Juda that [was] in Jerusalem, saying,

10 Detta säger Sanherib, Konungen i Assur: Hvar förtrösten I eder uppå, I som bon uti det belagda Jerusalem?

Thus says Sennacherim king of the Assyrians, On what do you trust, that you will remain in the siege in Jerusalem?

11 Jehiskia förförer eder, att han må komma eder i döden, hunger och törst, och säger: Herren vår Gud skall undsätta oss utu Konungens hand af Assyrien.

Does not Ezekias deceive you, to deliver you to death and famine and thirst, saying, The Lord our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

12 Är icke han den Jehiskia, som hans höjder och altare bortkastat hafver, och sagt till Juda och Jerusalem: För ett altare skolen I tillbedja, och deruppå röka.

Is not this Ezekias who has taken down his altars and his high places and has spoken to Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem, saying, You shall worship before this altar and burn incense upon it?

13 Veten I icke, hvad jag och mine fäder gjort hafva allom folkom i landen? Hafva ock Hedningarnas gudar i landen kunnat hjelpa deras land ifrå mine hand?

Know you not what I and my fathers have done to all the nations of the countries? Could the gods of the nations of all the earth at all rescue their people out of my hand?

14 Hvilken är den af alla dessa Hedningarnas gudar, som mina fäder nederlagdt hafva, som hafver kunnat hjelpa sitt folk utu mine hand; att edar Gud skulle förmå hjelpa eder utu mine hand?

Who is there among all the gods of those nations whom my fathers utterly destroyed, [worthy of trust]? Could they deliver their people out of my hand, that your God should deliver you out of my hand?

15 Så låter icke nu Hiskia bedraga eder, och låter icke tälja eder i sådant sinne, och tror honom intet; förty, medan ingen alla Hedningars och Konungarikens gud hafver kunnat hjelpa sitt folk ifrå mine och mina fäders hand, så varda icke heller edre gudar eder hjelpande ifrå mine hand.

Now then, let not Ezekias deceive you, and let him not make you thus confident, and believe him not: for no god of any kingdom or nation is at all able to deliver his people out of my hand, or the hand of my fathers: therefore your God shall not deliver you out of my hand.

16 Dertill talade hans tjenare ännu mer emot Herran Gud, och emot hans tjenare Jehiskia.

And his servants continued to speak against the Lord God, and against his servant Ezekias.

17 Skref han ock bref ut, deruti han hädde Herran Israels Gud, och talade om honom, och sade: Såsom Hedningarnas gudar i landen icke hafva hulpit deras folk ifrå mine hand, så varder ock icke Jehiskia Gud hjelpandes hans folk ifrå mine hand.

And he wrote a letter to reproach the Lord God of Israel, and spoke concerning him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the earth have not delivered their people out of my hand, so the God of Ezekias shall by no means deliver his people out of my hand.

18 Och de ropade med höga röst, på Judiskt mål, till folket i Jerusalem, som på muren voro, till att göra dem rädda och förskräckta, att de så måtte få staden.

And he cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language to the people of Jerusalem on the wall, [calling them] to assist them, and pull down [the walls], that they might take the city.

19 Och talade de så emot Jerusalems Gud, såsom emot folkens gudar på jordene, hvilke menniskos handaverk voro.

And he spoke against the God of Jerusalem, even as against the gods of the nations of the earth, the works of the hands of men.

20 Men Konung Jehiskia med Prophetenom Esaia, Amos son, bådo deremot, och ropade till himmelen.

And king Ezekias and Esaias the prophet the son of Amos prayed concerning these things, and they cried to heaven.

21 Och Herren sände en Ängel, som förgjorde alla de väldiga i hären, och Förstarna och öfverstarna i Konungens lägre af Assyrien; så att han med skam drog åter till sitt land igen. Och då han gick uti sins guds hus, dråpo honom der med svärd, de som af hans eget lif komne voro.

And the Lord sent an angel, and he destroyed every mighty man and warrior, and leader and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria: and he returned with shame of face to his own land and came into the house of his god: and [some] of them that came out of his bowels killed him with the sword.

22 Alltså halp Herren Jehiskia, och dem i Jerusalem, utu Sanheribs hand, Konungens i Assyrien, och alla andras; och bevarade dem för allom omkring;

So the Lord delivered Ezekias and the dwellers in Jerusalem out of the hand of Sennacherim King of Assyria, and out of the hand of all [his enemies], and gave them rest round about.

23 Så att månge båro skänker Herranom till Jerusalem, och klenodier Jehiskia, Juda Konung. Och han vardt sedan högt räknad för alla Hedningar.

And many brought gifts to the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezekias king of Juda; and he was exalted in the eyes of all the nations after these things.

24 På den tiden vardt Jehiskia dödsjuk, och han bad Herran; han hörde honom, och gaf honom ett tecken.

In those days Ezekias was sick even to death, and prayed to the Lord: and he listened to him, and gave him a sign.

25 Dock vedergalt icke Jehiskia, efter som honom gifvet var; ty hans hjerta upphof sig; derföre kom vrede öfver honom, och öfver Juda, och Jerusalem.

But Ezekias did not recompense the Lord according to the return which he made him, but his heart was lifted up: and wrath came upon him, and upon Juda and Jerusalem.

26 Men Jehiskia ödmjukade sig, att hans hjerta hade upphäfvit sig, samt med dem i Jerusalem; derföre kom Herrans vrede icke öfver dem, så länge Jehiskia lefde.

And Ezekias humbled himself after the exaltation of his heart, he and the dwellers in Jerusalem; and the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Ezekias.

27 Och Jehiskia hade ganska stora rikedomar och härlighet; och han gjorde sig en skatt af silfver, guld, ädla stenar, örter, sköldar och allahanda kostelig tyg;

And Ezekias had wealth and very great glory: and he made for himself treasuries of gold, and silver, and precious stones, also for spices, and stores for arms, and for precious vessels;

28 Och hus till inkommandes årsväxt, vin och oljo; och stall för allahanda boskap, och hus för får.

and cities for the produce of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls and mangers for every [kind of] cattle, and folds for flocks;

29 Och han byggde sig städer, och hade boskap, får och fä till en stor hop; förty Gud gaf honom ganska många ägodelar.

and cities which he built for himself, and store of sheep and oxen in abundance, for the Lord gave him a very great store.

30 Han är den Jehiskia, som igentäppte den öfra vattukällona i Gihon, och ledde henne nedåt, vester om Davids stad. Och var Jehiskia lyckosam i alla sina gerningar.

The same Ezekias stopped up the course of the water of Gion above, and brought the water down straight south of the city of David. And Ezekias prospered in all his works.

31 Men då de öfverstars sändningabåd af Babel till honom sände voro, att fråga efter det undertecken, som i landena skedt var, öfvergaf Gud honom, så att han försökte honom; på det att kunnigt skulle varda allt det i hans hjerta var.

Notwithstanding, in regard to the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who were sent to him to enquire of him [concerning] the prodigy which came upon the land, the Lord left him, to try him, to know what was in his heart.

32 Hvad nu mer af Jehiskia sägande är, och om hans barmhertighet, si, det är skrifvet i den Propheten Esaia, Amos sons, syn, uti Juda och Israels Konungars bok.

And the rest of the acts of Ezekias, and his kindness, behold, they are written in the prophecy of Esaias the son of Amos the prophet, and in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.

33 Och Jehiskia afsomnade med sina fäder, och de begrofvo honom öfver Davids barnas grifter; och hele Juda och de i Jerusalem gjorde honom äro i hans död. Och hans son Manasse vardt Konung i hans stad.

And Ezekias slept with his fathers, and they buried him in a high place among the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem gave him glory and honor at his death. And Manasses his son reigned in his stead.
