Santiago 5
1 Vengan, ustedes, hombres ricos, entregándose a llorar y llorar a causa de los amargos problemas que vienen a ustedes.
Listen to me, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming upon you!
2 Tu riqueza es corrupta, y la polilla a comido sus ropas.
Your riches have wasted away, and your clothes have become moth-eaten.
3 Su oro y su plata se ha corroído y su óxido será un testigo contra ustedes, quemándose en su carne como si fuera fuego. Has acumulado tesoro para los últimos días.
Your gold and silver are rusted; and the rust on them will be evidence against you, and will eat into your flesh. It was fire, so to speak, that you stored up for yourselves in these last days.
4 Mira, el dinero que falsamente retuviste a los trabajadores que segaron, está clamando contra ti; y los gritos de los que cosecharon tu grano han llegado a los oídos del Señor de los ejércitos.
Listen! The wages you have held back from the laborers who mowed your fields are crying out against you, and the outcries of your harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts!
5 Has estado viviendo en lujo y placeres en la tierra y han disfrutado; Has engordado tu corazón como en un día de matanza.
You have lived on earth a life of extravagance and luxury; you have indulged your fancies in a time of bloodshed.
6 Has dado tu decisión contra el hombre recto y lo has dado muerte. Él no luchó contra ti.
You have condemned, you have murdered, the righteous one! Must not God be opposed to you?
7 Continúen esperando pacientemente, mis hermanos, hasta la venida del Señor, como el granjero que espera el buen fruto de la tierra hasta que lleguen las lluvias tempranas y tardías.
Be patient, then, friends, until the coming of the Lord. Even the farmer has to wait for the precious fruit of the earth, watching over it patiently, until it has had the spring and summer rains.
8 Tengan paciencia en su espera; manténganse firmes en sus corazones: porque la venida del Señor está cerca.
And you must be patient also, and not be discouraged; for the Lord’s coming is near.
9 No digan cosas difíciles unos contra otros, hermanos, para que no sean juzgados; mira, el juez está esperando en la puerta.
Do not make complaints against one another, friends, or judgment will be passed on you. The judge is already standing at the door!
10 Tomemos como ejemplo de dolor y paciencia de los profetas que hablaron a los hombres las palabras del Señor.
Friends, as an example of the patient endurance of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
11 Decimos que los hombres que han pasado por el dolor son felices: ustedes tiene la historia de Job y los problemas por los cuales paso y han visto que el Señor estaba lleno de compasión y misericordia al final.
We count those who displayed such endurance blessed! You have heard, too, of Job’s endurance, and have seen what the Lord’s purpose was, for ‘the Lord is full of pity and compassion.’
12 Pero sobre todo, hermanos míos, no hagan juramentos, ni por el cielo, ni por la tierra, ni por ninguna otra cosa; pero su Sí sea Sí, y su No sea No; para que no sean juzgados.
Above all things, my friends, never take an oath, either by heaven, or by earth, or by anything else. Let your ‘Yes’ suffice for yes, and ‘No’ for no, so that you may escape condemnation.
13 ¿Hay alguien entre ustedes afligido? deja que él diga oraciones. ¿Alguien está contento? déjalo hacer una canción de alabanza.
If anyone of you is in trouble, they should pray; if anyone is happy, they should sing hymns.
14 ¿Hay alguien entre ustedes que esté enfermo? que envíe por los ancianos de la iglesia; y que digan oraciones sobre él, poniéndole aceite en el nombre del Señor.
If anyone of you is ill, they should send for the church elders, and let them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 Y por la oración de fe, el hombre enfermo será sanado, y él será levantado por el Señor, y por cualquier pecado que haya hecho, tendrá perdón.
The prayer offered in faith will save the person who is sick, and the Lord will raise them from their bed; and if they have committed sins, they will be forgiven.
16 Entonces, hagan una declaración de sus pecados unos a otros, y digan oraciones unos por otros para que puedan ser sanados. La oración fervorosa de un buen hombre tiene mucho poder.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be cured. Great is the power of a good person’s fervent prayer.
17 Elías era un hombre de carne y hueso como nosotros, e hizo una fuerte oración para que no lloviera; y no hubo lluvia en la tierra durante tres años y seis meses.
Elijah was only human like ourselves, but, when he prayed fervently that it might not rain, no rain fell on the land for three and a half years.
18 Y él hizo otra oración, y el cielo hizo descender la lluvia y la tierra dio su fruto.
And, when he prayed again, the clouds brought rain, and the land bore crops.
19 Hermanos míos, si uno de ustedes se apartó del camino de la fe verdadera y otro le hizo ver su error,
My friends, should one of you be led astray from the truth, and someone bring them back again,
20 Asegúrese de que aquel por quien un pecador se ha apartado del error de su camino, salvará de muerte un alma, y cubrirá una multitud de pecados.
be sure that the person who brings a sinner back from their mistaken ways will save that person’s soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.
