Hechos 23
1 Y Pablo, mirando fijamente al Sanedrín, dijo: Hermanos míos, mi vida ha sido recta delante de Dios hasta el día de hoy.
Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, “Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until today.”
2 Y el sumo sacerdote, Ananías, dio órdenes a los que estaban cerca de él para darle un golpe en la boca.
The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.
3 Entonces Pablo le dijo: Dios te dará azotes, pared blanqueada: ¿Estás tú sentado para juzgarme de acuerdo a la ley, y quebrantando la ley me mandas golpear?
Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”
4 Y los que estaban cerca dijeron: ¿Dices estas palabras contra el sumo sacerdote de Dios?
Those who stood by said, “Do you malign God’s high priest?”
5 Y Pablo dijo: Hermano, no tenía idea de que él era el sumo sacerdote; porque se ha dicho: No digas mal sobre el príncipe de tu pueblo.
Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”
6 Pero viendo Pablo que la mitad de ellos eran saduceos y los otros fariseos, dijo en el Sanedrín: Hermanos, yo soy fariseo, y el hijo de los fariseos: estoy aquí para ser juzgado sobre la cuestión de la esperanza de la resurrección.
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
7 Y cuando hubo dicho esto, hubo una discusión entre los fariseos y los saduceos, y una división en la reunión.
When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the crowd was divided.
8 Porque los saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángeles ni espíritus; pero los fariseos creen en todo esto.
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.
9 Hubo un gran clamor: y algunos de los escribas del lado de los fariseos se levantaron y tomaron parte en la discusión, diciendo: No vemos mal en este hombre: ¿y si él ha tenido una revelación de un ángel? o de un ¿espíritu? No resistas a Dios.
A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”
10 Y cuando la discusión se tornó muy violenta, el jefe de los capitanes, temiendo que Pablo fuese despedazado por ellos, dio órdenes a los hombres armados para que lo tomaran por la fuerza de entre ellos, y lo llevaran al edificio del ejército.
When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and bring him into the barracks.
11 Y la noche después, el Señor se le apareció y le dijo: “Ten ánimo, Pablo, porque como has estado testificando por mí en Jerusalén, así serás mi testigo en Roma”.
The following night, the Lord stood by him and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”
12 Y cuando fue de día, los judíos se juntaron y se pusieron bajo juramento para no comer ni beber hasta que matasen a Pablo.
When it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.
13 Y más de cuarenta de ellos tomaron este juramento.
There were more than forty people who had made this conspiracy.
14 Y vinieron a los principales sacerdotes y a los príncipes, y dijeron: Hemos hecho un gran juramento de no tomar alimento hasta que hayamos matado a Pablo.
They came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great curse to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.
15 Así que ahora, en cooperación con el Sanedrín, soliciten a las autoridades militares que lo traigan a ustedes, con el pretexto de investigar el caso con mayor detalle; y nosotros, antes de que él llegue a ti, estaremos esperando para matarlo.
Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”
16 Pero el hijo de la hermana de Pablo tuvo noticias de sus planes, y él entró en el edificio del ejército y le dio noticias de ello a Pablo.
But Paul’s sister’s son heard they were lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.
17 Y Pablo mandó llamar a un capitán, y le dijo: Toma a este joven con tu jefe, porque él tiene noticias para él.
Paul summoned one of the centurions and said, “Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him.”
18 Entonces lo llevó ante el comandante y le dijo: Pablo, el prisionero, me ha pedido que te lleve a este joven, porque él tiene algo que decirte.
So he took him and brought him to the commanding officer and said, “Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to tell you.”
19 Y el jefe lo tomó de la mano y, yendo de un lado, le dijo en privado: ¿Qué es lo que tienes que decirme?
The commanding officer took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”
20 Y él dijo: Los judíos están de acuerdo para pedirle a Pablo que sea llevado, al día siguiente, al Sanedrín, para ser interrogado con mayor detalle.
He said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though intending to inquire somewhat more accurately concerning him.
21 Pero no los dejes pasar a ellos, porque más de cuarenta de ellos lo están esperando, habiendo hecho un juramento de no comer ni beber hasta que lo hayan dado muerte, y ahora están listos, esperando tu orden.
Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”
22 Entonces el comandante dejó ir al joven, diciéndole: No digas a nadie que tú me has dado noticia de estas cosas.
So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”
23 Y mandó llamar a dos capitanes, y dijo: Prepara doscientos hombres, con setenta jinetes y doscientos lanceros, para ir a Cesárea a la hora tercera de la noche;
He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night.”
24 Y mandó preparar caballos para que Pablo montara, y llevarlo a salvo a Félix, el gobernante.
He asked them to provide mounts, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.
25 Y envió una carta con estas palabras:
He wrote a letter like this:
26 Claudio Lisias, al gobernante más noble, Félix, la paz sea contigo.
“Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings.
27 Este hombre fue tomado por los judíos, y estaba a punto de ser ejecutado por ellos, lo libré yo con el ejército y lo saqué de peligro, sabiendo que él era romano.
“This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.
28 Y, deseando averiguar el motivo de su ataque contra él, lo llevé a su Sanedrín:
Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council.
29 Entonces me quedó claro que se trataba de una cuestión de su ley, y que no se dijo nada en contra de él, que podría ser una motivo de prisión o muerte.
I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.
30 Y cuando me dieron la noticia de que se estaba haciendo plan secreto contra el hombre, lo envié directamente a usted, dando órdenes a aquellos que están contra él para que hagan sus declaraciones delante de usted.
When I was told that the Jews lay in wait for the man, I sent him to you immediately, charging his accusers also to bring their accusations against him before you. Farewell.”
31 Entonces los hombres armados, como se les ordenó, tomaron a Pablo y vinieron de noche a Antipatris.
So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.
32 Pero al día siguiente, enviaron a los jinetes con él, y volvieron a su lugar.
But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.
33 Y cuando llegaron a Cesarea, dieron la carta al gobernante, y llevaron a Pablo delante de él.
When they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.
34 Y después de leerlo, dijo: ¿De qué parte del país vienes? Y al saber que era de Cilicia,
When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,
35 voy a escuchar tu causa, dijo, cuando hayan venido los que están en tu contra. Y dio órdenes para que lo guardaran en el Pretorio de Herodes.
“I will hear you fully when your accusers also arrive.” He commanded that he be kept in Herod’s palace.
