1 Pedro 4

1 De modo que, como Jesús sufrió en la carne por nosotros, ustedes mismos Con él mismo pensamiento; tengan la misma determinación de sufrir, pues él que ha sufrido en el cuerpo ha roto con él pecado;

Since, then, Christ suffered in body, arm yourselves with the same resolve as he; for he who has suffered in body has ceased to sin,

2 Para que puedan dar el resto de sus vidas en la carne, no a los deseos de los hombres, sino al propósito de Dios.

and so will live the rest of his earthly life guided, not by human passions, but by the will of God.

3 Porque durante bastante tiempo, en tiempos pasados, hemos estado viviendo según el camino de los gentiles, entregados a los deseos de la carne, a la bebida y el banquete y el comportamiento suelto y la adoración impura de las imágenes;

Surely in the past you have spent time enough living as the Gentiles delight to live. For your path has lain among scenes of debauchery, licentiousness, drunkenness, revelry, hard-drinking, and profane idolatry.

4 Y ahora se preguntan si ya no irán más con ellos y les extraña y hablan mal de ustedes.

And, because you do not run to the same extremes of profligacy as others, they are astonished, and malign you.

5 Sino que tendrán que dar cuenta de sí mismos a aquel que está listo para ser el juez de los vivos y los muertos.

But they will have to answer for their conduct to him who is ready to judge both the living and the dead.

6 Por esta fue la razón por la cual las buenas nuevas de Jesús fueron dadas aun a los muertos, para que puedan ser juzgados como hombres en la carne, pero vivan delante de Dios en el espíritu.

For that was why the good news was told to the dead also – that, after they have been judged in the body, as people are judged, they might live in the spirit, as God lives.

7 Pero el fin de todas las cosas está cerca: así que sé serio en tu comportamiento y mantente atento con la oración;

But the end of all things is near. Therefore exercise self-restraint and be calm, so that you may be able to pray.

8 Y sobre todo sean cálidos en su amor mutuo; porque en el amor cubrirá multitud de pecados.

Above all things, let your love for one another be earnest, for ‘Love throws a veil over countless sins.’

9 Mantenga la casa abierta para todos con un corazón alegre;

Never grudge hospitality to one another.

10 Haciendo distribución entre ustedes de todo lo que se les ha dado, como verdaderos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios.

Whatever the gift that each has received, use it in the service of others, as good stewards of the varied bounty of God.

11 Si alguien tiene algo que decir, que sea como las palabras de Dios; si alguien tiene el deseo de ser el servidor de los demás, que lo haga con él poder que le da Dios; para que en todas las cosas que hagan, Dios tenga la gloria por medio de Jesucristo, de quien es la gloria y el poder para siempre. Así sea. (aiōn g165)

When anyone speaks, they should speak as one who is delivering the oracles of God. When anyone is endeavoring to serve others, they should do so in reliance on the strength which God supplies; so that in everything God may be honored through Jesus Christ – to whom be ascribed all honor and might for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)

12 Queridos hermanos, no se sorprendan, como si fuera algo extraño, si su fe es probada como por fuego,

Dear friends, do not be astonished at the trial of fire that you are passing through, to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

13 Pero estén contentos de que se les dé parte en los sufrimientos de Cristo; para que en la revelación de su gloria se llenen de gran alegría.

No, the more you share the sufferings of the Christ, the more may you rejoice, that, when the time comes for the manifestation of his glory, you may rejoice and exult.

14 Si los hombres los insultan por el nombre de Cristo, alégrense; porque el Espíritu de gloria y de Dios descansa sobre ustedes.

If you are insulted for bearing the name of Christ, count yourselves blessed; because the divine glory and the Spirit of God are resting on you.

15 Nadie entre ustedes sufra castigo como homicida, o como ladrón, o como malhechor, o por entrometerse en lo ajeno;

I need hardly say that no one among you must suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a criminal, or for interfering in matters which do not concern Christians.

16 Pero si él sufre un castigo como cristiano, eso no es vergüenza para él; déjalo glorificar a Dios por ello.

But, if someone suffers as a Christian, they should not be ashamed of it; they should bring honor to God even though they bear that name.

17 Porque ha llegado el momento de juzgar, empezando por la iglesia de Dios; pero si comienza con nosotros, ¿cuál será el final de aquellos que no obedecen el evangelio de Dios?

For the time has come for judgment to begin with the house of God; and, if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God’s good news?

18 Y si es difícil incluso para el justo obtener la salvación, ¿qué posibilidades tiene el hombre sin religión o el pecador?

If ‘a good person is saved only with difficulty, what will become of the godless and the sinful?’

19 Por esta razón, aquellos que por el propósito de Dios sufren castigo, continúen haciendo el bien y pongan sus almas en las manos seguras de su Creador.

Therefore, I say, let those who suffer, because God wills it so, commit their lives into the hands of a faithful Creator, and persevere in doing right.
