< Proverbios 20 >

1 El vino hace burlador, la cerveza alborotador; y cualquiera que en ellos yerra, no será sabio.
Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
2 Como bramido de cachorro de león es el miedo del rey; el que lo hace enojar, peca contra su alma.
The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
3 Honra es del hombre dejarse de contienda; mas todo loco se envolverá en ella.
It is an honor for a person to keep away from strife, but every fool quarrels.
4 El perezoso no ara a causa del invierno; pedirá, pues, en la siega, y no hallará.
The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Como aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre; mas el hombre entendido lo alcanzará a sacar.
Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Muchos hombres publican cada uno su misericordia; mas varón de verdad, ¿quién lo hallará?
Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
7 El justo que camina en su integridad, bienaventurados serán sus hijos después de él.
A righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.
8 El rey que se sienta en el trono de juicio, con su mirar disipa todo mal.
A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
9 ¿Quién podrá decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón; limpio estoy de mi pecado?
Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"
10 Doble pesa y doble medida, abominación son al SEÑOR ambas cosas.
Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
11 Aun el niño es conocido por sus obras, si su obra fuere limpia y recta.
Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
12 El oído que oye, y el ojo que ve; el SEÑOR hizo ambas cosas.
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, The LORD has made even both of them.
13 No ames el sueño, para que no te empobrezcas; abre tus ojos, y te saciarás de pan.
Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
14 El que compra dice: Malo es, malo es; mas cuando se aparta, se alaba.
"It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
15 Hay oro y multitud de piedras preciosas; mas los labios sabios son vaso precioso.
There is gold and abundance of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
16 Quítale su ropa al que salió por fiador del extraño; y tómale prenda al que fía la extraña.
Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
17 Sabroso es al hombre el pan de mentira; mas después su boca será llena de cascajo.
Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
18 Los pensamientos con el consejo se ordenan; y con sabios consejos se hace la guerra.
Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war.
19 El que descubre el secreto, en chismes anda; no te entremetas, pues, con el que lisonjea con sus labios.
He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
20 El que maldice a su padre o a su madre, su candela será apagada en oscuridad tenebrosa.
Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
21 La herencia adquirida de prisa al principio, su postrimería no será bendita.
An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won't be blessed in the end.
22 No digas, yo me vengaré; espera al SEÑOR, y él te salvará.
Do not say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
23 Abominación son al SEÑOR las pesas dobles; y el peso falso no es bueno.
The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are no good.
24 Del SEÑOR son los pasos del hombre; ¿cómo, pues, entenderá el hombre su camino?
A man's steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
25 Lazo es al hombre el devorar lo santo, y andar pesquisando después de los votos.
It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
26 El rey sabio esparce los impíos; y sobre ellos hace rodar la rueda.
A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
27 Candela del SEÑOR es el aliento del hombre que escudriña lo secreto del vientre.
The spirit of man is the LORD's lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
28 Clemencia y verdad guardan al rey; y con misericordia sustenta su trono.
Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su fortaleza, y la hermosura de los viejos su vejez.
The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
30 Las señales de las heridas pasadas son medicina para curar lo malo; y las vivas amonestaciones llegan a lo más secreto del vientre.
Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
