1 Pedro 4

1 Pues que el Cristo ha padecido por nosotros en la carne, vosotros también estad armados del mismo pensamiento; que el que ha padecido en la carne, cesó de pecado;

Since, then, Christ suffered in body, arm yourselves with the same resolve as he; for he who has suffered in body has ceased to sin,

2 para que ya el tiempo que queda en la carne, viva, no a las concupiscencias de los hombres, sino a la voluntad de Dios.

and so will live the rest of his earthly life guided, not by human passions, but by the will of God.

3 Porque nos debe bastar que el tiempo pasado de nuestra vida hayamos hecho la voluntad de los gentiles, cuando conversábamos en lascivias, en concupiscencias, en embriagueces, en glotonerías, en orgías, y en abominables idolatrías.

Surely in the past you have spent time enough living as the Gentiles delight to live. For your path has lain among scenes of debauchery, licentiousness, drunkenness, revelry, hard-drinking, and profane idolatry.

4 Y esto parece cosa extraña a los que os vituperan, que vosotros no corráis con ellos en el mismo desenfreno de disolución;

And, because you do not run to the same extremes of profligacy as others, they are astonished, and malign you.

5 los cuales darán cuenta al que está aparejado para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.

But they will have to answer for their conduct to him who is ready to judge both the living and the dead.

6 Porque por esto también ha sido predicado el Evangelio a los muertos; para que sean juzgados en carne según los hombres, y vivan en espíritu según Dios.

For that was why the good news was told to the dead also – that, after they have been judged in the body, as people are judged, they might live in the spirit, as God lives.

7 Mas el fin de todas las cosas se acerca; sed, pues, templados, y velad en oración.

But the end of all things is near. Therefore exercise self-restraint and be calm, so that you may be able to pray.

8 Y sobre todo, tened entre vosotros ferviente caridad; porque la caridad cubrirá multitud de pecados.

Above all things, let your love for one another be earnest, for “Love throws a veil over countless sins.”

9 Hospedaos amorosamente los unos a los otros sin murmuraciones.

Never grudge hospitality to one another.

10 Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, adminístrelo a los otros, como buenos dispensadores de las diferentes gracias de Dios.

Whatever the gift that each has received, use it in the service of others, as good stewards of the varied bounty of God.

11 Si alguno habla, hable conforme a las palabras de Dios; si alguno ministra, ministre conforme a la virtud que Dios suministra; para que en todas las cosas sea Dios glorificado por Jesús el Cristo, al cual es gloria e imperio para siempre jamás. Amén. (aiōn g165)

When anyone speaks, they should speak as one who is delivering the oracles of God. When anyone is endeavouring to serve others, they should do so in reliance on the strength which God supplies; so that in everything God may be honoured through Jesus Christ – to whom be ascribed all honour and might for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)

12 Carísimos, no os maravilléis cuando seáis examinados por fuego, (lo cual se hace para vuestra prueba), como si alguna cosa peregrina os aconteciese;

Dear friends, do not be astonished at the trial of fire that you are passing through, to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

13 mas antes en que sois participantes de las aflicciones de Cristo, gozaos, para que también en la revelación de su gloria os gocéis en triunfo.

No, the more you share the sufferings of the Christ, the more may you rejoice, that, when the time comes for the manifestation of his glory, you may rejoice and exult.

14 Si sois vituperados por el Nombre de Cristo, sois bienaventurados, porque la gloria y el Espíritu de Dios reposan sobre vosotros. Cierto, según ellos, él es blasfemado, mas según vosotros es glorificado.

If you are insulted for bearing the name of Christ, count yourselves blessed; because the divine glory and the Spirit of God are resting on you.

15 Así que, ninguno de vosotros padezca como homicida, o ladrón, o malhechor, o codicioso de los bienes ajenos.

I need hardly say that no one among you must suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a criminal, or for interfering in matters which do not concern Christians.

16 Pero si alguno padece como cristiano, no se avergüence; antes glorifique a Dios en esta parte.

But, if someone suffers as a Christian, they should not be ashamed of it; they should bring honour to God even though they bear that name.

17 Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience desde la casa de Dios; y si primero comienza por nosotros, ¿qué será el fin de aquellos que ni creen ni obedecen al Evangelio de Dios?

For the time has come for judgment to begin with the house of God; and, if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God’s good news?

18 Y si el justo con dificultad se salva; ¿en dónde aparecerá el infiel y el pecador?

If “a good person is saved only with difficulty, what will become of the godless and the sinful?”

19 Y por eso los que son afligidos según la voluntad de Dios, encomiéndenle sus almas, como a fiel Criador, haciendo bien.

Therefore, I say, let those who suffer, because God wills it so, commit their lives into the hands of a faithful Creator, and persevere in doing right.
