Proverbios 4

1 Escuchen, hijos, la instrucción de un padre Y estén atentos para adquirir entendimiento,

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2 Porque les doy buena doctrina. No abandonen mi enseñanza,

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3 Pues yo también fui hijo de mi padre, Afectuoso y singular delante de mi madre.

For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 Él me enseñaba y me decía: Retenga tu corazón mis palabras, Guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás.

He taught me also, and said to me, Let thy heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5 Adquiere sabiduría, adquiere entendimiento. No te olvides ni te apartes de los dichos de mi boca.

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 No la abandones, y ella te guardará. Ámala, y ella te protegerá.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 ¡Sabiduría ante todo! Adquiere sabiduría, Y sobre toda posesión adquiere entendimiento.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 Exáltala, y ella te engrandecerá, Cuando la abraces te honrará.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9 Pondrá en tu cabeza guirnalda de gracia. Te otorgará corona de esplendor.

She shall give to thy head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 Escucha, hijo mío, y recibe mis palabras, Y se te multiplicarán años de vida.

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 Te encaminé por el camino de la sabiduría Y te indiqué las sendas de rectitud.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12 Cuando camines, tus pasos no tendrán estorbo. Y si corres, no tropezarás.

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Aférrate a la disciplina y no la dejes. Guárdala, porque ella es tu vida.

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

14 No entres por el camino del perverso, Ni vayas por el sendero de los malos.

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 Evítalo, no pases por él. Desvíate de él, pasa de largo.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 Porque ellos no duermen si no hacen daño, Y se les quita el sueño si no hacen caer [a alguien].

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 Porque comen pan de iniquidad Y beben vino de violencia.

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 Pero la senda de los justos es como la luz del alba, Que va en aumento hasta que el día es perfecto.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more to the perfect day.

19 El camino de los impíos es como la oscuridad: No saben en qué tropiezan.

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

20 Hijo mío, atiende mis palabras. Inclina tu oído a mis dichos.

My son, attend to my words; incline thy ear to my sayings.

21 No se aparten de tus ojos. Guárdalos en lo profundo de tu corazón,

Let them not depart from thy eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.

22 Pues son vida a los que los hallan Y sanidad a todo su cuerpo.

For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 Con toda diligencia, guarda tu corazón, Porque de él [emana] la vida.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 Aparta de ti la boca perversa Y aleja de ti la falsedad de labios.

Put away from thee a perverse mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Tus ojos miren de frente Y dirige tu mirada hacia lo que está delante.

Let thy eyes look right on, and let thy eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Reflexiona en la senda de tus pies, Y sean rectos todos tus caminos.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 No te desvíes a la derecha ni a la izquierda. Aparta tu pie del mal.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
