2 Crónicas 10
1 Entonces Roboam fue a Siquem, porque todo Israel había ido a Siquem para proclamarlo rey.
And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem had all Israel come to make him king.
2 Sucedió que cuando lo oyó Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, quien aún estaba en Egipto, adonde huyó de la presencia del rey Salomón, Jeroboam regresó de Egipto.
And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt.
3 Mandaron a llamarlo. Jeroboam llegó con todo Israel para hablar a Roboam y dijo:
And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4 Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo. Ahora pues, busca que la dura servidumbre de tu padre y el pesado yugo que nos impuso sea más llevadero, y te serviremos.
Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
5 Y les respondió: ¡Vuelvan a mí dentro de tres días! Y el pueblo se retiró.
And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed.
6 El rey Roboam consultó a los ancianos que estuvieron delante de su padre Salomón cuando estaba vivo: ¿Cómo aconsejan que responda a este pueblo?
And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
7 Y le respondieron: Si muestras buena voluntad a este pueblo, los complaces y les hablas buenas palabras, serán tus esclavos todos los días.
And they spoke to him, saying, If thou wilt be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8 Pero [Roboam] despreció el consejo que los ancianos le dieron, y consultó a los jóvenes que crecieron con él y estaban delante de él.
But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
9 Y les preguntó: ¿Qué aconsejan ustedes que respondamos a este pueblo que me habló: Alivia el yugo que tu padre impuso sobre nosotros?
And he said to them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father put upon us?
10 Los jóvenes que crecieron con él le respondieron: Dirás al pueblo que te habló: Tu padre hizo pesado nuestro yugo. Tú, pues, alivia nuestro yugo. Les dirás: Mi meñique es más grueso que la cintura de mi padre.
And the young men that were brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spoke to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s thighs.
11 De modo que, si mi padre les impuso un yugo pesado, yo añadiré a su yugo. Mi padre los castigó con azotes, pero yo, con escorpiones.
For though my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12 Al tercer día Jeroboam y todo el pueblo fueron a Roboam, tal como el rey les habló: Vuelvan a mí al tercer día.
So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king appointed, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
13 El rey les respondió duramente, pues el rey Roboam menospreció el consejo de los ancianos.
And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
14 Les habló de acuerdo con el consejo de los jóvenes: Mi padre hizo pesado su yugo, pero yo añadiré a él. Mi padre los castigó con azotes, pero yo, con escorpiones.
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15 Así que el rey no escuchó al pueblo, porque era designio de ʼElohim, para que Yavé cumpliera su Palabra dicha por medio de Ahías silonita a Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat.
So the king hearkened not to the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 Cuando todo Israel vio que el rey no los escucharía ni les pondría atención, respondió al rey: ¿Qué parte tenemos en David? ¡No tenemos herencia con el hijo de Isaí! ¡Israel, cada uno a sus tiendas! ¡David, cuida ahora tu propia casa! Y todo Israel se retiró a sus tiendas.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thy own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
17 Pero Roboam reinó sobre los hijos de Israel que vivían en las ciudades de Judá.
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18 Después el rey Roboam envió a Adoram, quien estaba a cargo del tributo laboral. Pero los hijos de Israel lo apedrearon, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se apresuró, subió en su carroza y huyó a Jerusalén.
Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the forced labour; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get into his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 De esta manera Israel se rebeló contra la casa de David hasta hoy.
And Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
