Proverbios 13
1 Un hijo sabio escucha la instrucción de su padre, pero un burlón no escucha la reprimenda.
A wise son [heareth] his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 Por el fruto de sus labios, el hombre disfruta de las cosas buenas, pero los infieles ansían la violencia.
A man shall eat good by the fruit of [his] mouth: but the soul of the transgressors [shall eat] violence.
3 El que guarda su boca guarda su alma. El que abre mucho los labios se arruina.
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
4 El alma del perezoso desea y no tiene nada, pero el deseo de los diligentes será plenamente satisfecho.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and [hath] nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 El hombre justo odia la mentira, pero un hombre malvado trae vergüenza y desgracia.
A righteous [man] hateth lying: but a wicked [man] is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6 La justicia guarda el camino de la integridad, pero la maldad derriba al pecador.
Righteousness keepeth [him that is] upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7 Hay quienes pretenden ser ricos, pero no tienen nada. Hay algunos que fingen ser pobres, pero tienen grandes riquezas.
There is that maketh himself rich, yet [hath] nothing: [there is] that maketh himself poor, yet [hath] great riches.
8 El rescate de la vida de un hombre es su riqueza, pero los pobres no escuchan las amenazas.
The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
9 La luz de los justos brilla con fuerza, pero la lámpara de los malvados se apaga.
The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
10 La soberbia sólo genera peleas, pero la sabiduría está en las personas que aceptan los consejos.
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised [is] wisdom.
11 La riqueza obtenida de forma deshonesta se desvanece, pero el que recoge a mano lo hace crecer.
Wealth [gotten] by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
12 La esperanza postergada enferma el corazón, pero cuando el anhelo se cumple, es un árbol de la vida.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but [when] the desire cometh, [it is] a tree of life.
13 Quien desprecia la instrucción lo pagará, pero el que respeta una orden será recompensado.
Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 La enseñanza de los sabios es un manantial de vida, para alejarse de las trampas de la muerte.
The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 El buen entendimiento gana el favor, pero el camino de los infieles es duro.
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors [is] hard.
16 Todo hombre prudente actúa desde el conocimiento, pero un tonto expone la locura.
Every prudent [man] dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open [his] folly.
17 Un mensajero malvado cae en problemas, pero un enviado de confianza consigue la curación.
A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador [is] health.
18 La pobreza y la vergüenza llegan al que rechaza la disciplina, pero el que hace caso a la corrección será honrado.
Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
19 El anhelo cumplido es dulce para el alma, pero los tontos detestan apartarse del mal.
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but [it is] abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 El que camina con los sabios se hace sabio, pero el compañero de los tontos sufre daños.
He that walketh with wise [men] shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
21 La desgracia persigue a los pecadores, pero la prosperidad recompensa a los justos.
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
22 Un buen hombre deja una herencia a los hijos de sus hijos, pero la riqueza del pecador se almacena para el justo.
A good [man] leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner [is] laid up for the just.
23 En los campos de los pobres hay abundancia de alimentos, pero la injusticia la barre.
Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor: but there is [that is] destroyed for want of judgment.
24 El que ahorra la vara odia a su hijo, pero quien lo ama tiene cuidado de disciplinarlo.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
25 El justo come para satisfacer su alma, pero el vientre de los malvados pasa hambre.
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
