Josué 22

1 Entonces Josué llamó a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés,

At that time Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

2 y les dijo: “Habéis guardado todo lo que Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, os ha ordenado, y habéis escuchado mi voz en todo lo que os he mandado.

He said to them, “You have done everything that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you. You have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.

3 No habéis dejado a vuestros hermanos en estos muchos días hasta hoy, sino que habéis cumplido el deber del mandamiento de Yahvé vuestro Dios.

You have not deserted your brothers these many days, down to this present day, and you have fulfilled the duties required by the commandments of Yahweh your God.

4 Ahora Yahvé vuestro Dios ha dado descanso a tus hermanos, tal como les habló. Por lo tanto, regresen ahora y vayan a sus tiendas, a la tierra de su posesión, que Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, les dio al otro lado del Jordán.

Now Yahweh your God has given rest to your brothers, just as he promised them. Therefore turn and go to your tents in the land you own, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

5 Sólo cuida de poner en práctica el mandamiento y la ley que Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, te ordenó: amar a Yahvé vuestro Dios, andar por todos sus caminos, guardar sus mandamientos, aferrarte a él y servirle con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma.”

Just be very careful to observe the commandments and the law that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, and to cling to him and worship him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

6 Josué los bendijo y los despidió, y se fueron a sus tiendas.

So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went back to their tents.

7 A la mitad de la tribu de Manasés Moisés le había dado herencia en Basán, pero Josué le dio a la otra mitad entre sus hermanos al otro lado del Jordán, hacia el oeste. Además, cuando Josué los despidió a sus tiendas, los bendijo,

Now to one-half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given an inheritance in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave an inheritance beside their brothers in the land west of the Jordan. Joshua sent them away to their tents; he blessed them

8 y les habló diciendo: “Volved con mucha riqueza a vuestras tiendas, con mucho ganado, con plata, con oro, con bronce, con hierro y con mucha ropa. Repartan el botín de sus enemigos con sus hermanos”.

and said to them, “Return to your tents with much money, and with very much livestock, and with silver and gold, and with bronze and iron, and with very many garments. Divide the plunder from your enemies with your brothers.”

9 Los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés volvieron y se apartaron de los hijos de Israel desde Silo, que está en la tierra de Canaán, para ir a la tierra de Galaad, a la tierra de su posesión, que poseían, según el mandato de Yahvé por medio de Moisés.

So the descendants of Reuben, the descendants of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh returned home, leaving the people of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan. They left to go to the region of Gilead, to their own land, which they themselves possessed, in obedience to the commandment of Yahweh, by the hand of Moses.

10 Cuando llegaron a la región cercana al Jordán, que está en la tierra de Canaán, los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés construyeron allí un altar junto al Jordán, un gran altar para mirar.

When they came to the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar beside the Jordan, a very large and prominent altar.

11 Los hijos de Israel oyeron esto: “He aquí que los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés han edificado un altar a lo largo de la frontera de la tierra de Canaán, en la región alrededor del Jordán, del lado que pertenece a los hijos de Israel.”

The people of Israel heard about this and said, “Look! The people of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the front of the land of Canaan, at Geliloth, in the region near the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the people of Israel.”

12 Cuando los hijos de Israel se enteraron de esto, toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel se reunió en Silo para subir contra ellos a la guerra.

When the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered together at Shiloh to go up to make war against them.

13 Los hijos de Israel enviaron a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés a la tierra de Galaad, a Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar.

Then the people of Israel sent messengers to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead. They also sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest,

14 Con él había diez príncipes, un príncipe de una casa paterna por cada una de las tribus de Israel, y cada uno era jefe de su casa paterna entre los millares de Israel.

and with him ten leaders, one from each of the tribal families of Israel, and every one of them was the head of a family among the clan of Israel.

15 Vinieron a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés, a la tierra de Galaad, y hablaron con ellos diciendo:

They came to the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they spoke to them:

16 “Toda la congregación de Yahvé dice: “¿Qué transgresión es ésta que habéis cometido contra el Dios de Israel, al apartaros hoy de seguir a Yahvé, al construiros un altar, para rebelaros hoy contra Yahvé?

“The whole assembly of Yahweh says this, 'What is this unfaithfulness that you have committed against the God of Israel, by turning this day from following Yahweh by building yourself an altar this day in rebellion against Yahweh?

17 ¿Acaso es poca la iniquidad de Peor, de la cual no nos hemos limpiado hasta el día de hoy, a pesar de que vino una plaga sobre la congregación de Yahvé,

Was our sin at Peor not enough for us? Yet we have not even now cleansed ourselves from it. For that sin there came a plague on the assembly of Yahweh.

18 para que ustedes se aparten hoy de seguir a Yahvé? Será que, puesto que hoy os rebeláis contra Yahvé, mañana él se enojará con toda la congregación de Israel.

Must you also turn away from following Yahweh at this present day? If you also rebel against Yahweh today, tomorrow he will be angry with the whole assembly of Israel.

19 Sin embargo, si la tierra de tu posesión es impura, pasa a la tierra de la posesión de Yahvé, en la que habita el tabernáculo de Yahvé, y toma posesión entre nosotros; pero no te rebeles contra Yahvé, ni te rebeles contra nosotros, construyendo un altar que no sea el altar de Yahvé, nuestro Dios.

If the land that you possess is defiled, then you should pass over into the land where Yahweh's tabernacle stands and take for yourselves a possession among us. Only do not rebel against Yahweh, nor rebel against us by building an altar for yourselves other than the altar of Yahweh our God.

20 ¿No cometió Acán, hijo de Zéraj, una transgresión en lo consagrado, y la ira cayó sobre toda la congregación de Israel? Ese hombre no pereció solo en su iniquidad”.

Did not Achan son of Zerah break faith in the matter of those things that had been reserved for God? Did not wrath fall on all the people of Israel? That man did not perish alone for his iniquity.'”

21 Entonces los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés respondieron y hablaron a los jefes de los millares de Israel:

Then the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh replied in answer to the heads of the clans of Israel:

22 “El Poderoso, Dios, Yahvé, el Poderoso, Dios, Yahvé, sabe; e Israel sabrá si fue por rebelión, o si por transgresión contra Yahvé (no nos salve hoy),

“The Mighty One, God, Yahweh! The Mighty One, God, Yahweh!—He knows, and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in breach of faith against Yahweh, do not spare us on this day

23 que nos hemos construido un altar para apartarnos de seguir a Yahvé; o si para ofrecer holocausto u ofrenda, o si para ofrecer sacrificios de ofrendas de paz, que Yahvé mismo lo exija.

for having built an altar to turn ourselves away from following Yahweh. If we built that altar in order to offer on it burnt offerings, grain offerings, or peace offerings, then let Yahweh make us pay for it.

24 “Si no hemos hecho esto por preocupación y por una razón, diciendo: “En el futuro, vuestros hijos podrían hablar a los nuestros, diciendo: “¿Qué tenéis vosotros que ver con Yahvé, el Dios de Israel?

No! We did it for fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, 'What have you to do with Yahweh, the God of Israel?

25 Porque Yahvé ha puesto el Jordán como frontera entre nosotros y vosotros, hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad. Vosotros no tenéis parte en Yahvé”. Para que vuestros hijos hagan que los nuestros dejen de temer a Yahvé.

For Yahweh has made the Jordan a border between us and you. You people of Reuben and people of Gad, you have nothing to do with Yahweh.' So your children might make our children cease to worship Yahweh.

26 “Por eso dijimos: ‘Preparemos ahora para construirnos un altar, no para holocaustos ni para sacrificios;

So we said, 'Let us now build an altar, not for burnt offerings nor for any sacrifices,

27 sino que será un testimonio entre nosotros y ustedes, y entre nuestras generaciones después de nosotros, para que realicemos el servicio de Yahvé ante él con nuestros holocaustos, con nuestros sacrificios y con nuestras ofrendas de paz;’ para que sus hijos no digan a los nuestros en el futuro: ‘Ustedes no tienen parte en Yahvé’.

but to be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we will perform the service of Yahweh before him, with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, so that your children will never say to our children in time to come, “You have no share in Yahweh.”'

28 “Por eso dijimos: “Cuando nos cuenten esto a nosotros o a nuestras generaciones en el futuro, diremos: “He aquí el modelo del altar de Yahvé, que hicieron nuestros padres, no para holocausto ni para sacrificio, sino que es un testigo entre nosotros y vosotros””.

So we said, 'If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we would say, “Look! This is a copy of the altar of Yahweh, which our ancestors made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.”

29 “¡Lejos de nosotros que nos rebelemos contra Yahvé y nos apartemos hoy de seguir a Yahvé, para construir un altar para holocausto, para ofrenda o para sacrificio, además del altar de Yahvé nuestro Dios que está delante de su tabernáculo!”

May it be far from us that we should rebel against Yahweh, and today turn away from following him by building an altar for burnt offering, for grain offering, or for sacrifice, other than the altar of Yahweh our God that is before his tabernacle.'”

30 Cuando el sacerdote Finees y los jefes de la congregación, los jefes de los millares de Israel que estaban con él, oyeron las palabras que decían los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés, les pareció bien.

When Phinehas the priest and the leaders of the people, that is, the heads of the clans of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the people of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh said, that it was good in their eyes.

31 Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, dijo a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Manasés: “Hoy sabemos que Yahvé está entre nosotros, porque ustedes no han cometido esta transgresión contra Yahvé. Ahora habéis librado a los hijos de Israel de la mano de Yahvé”.

Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said to the people of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh, “Today we know that Yahweh is among us, because you have not committed this breach of faith against him. Now you have rescued the people of Israel out of the hand of Yahweh.”

32 Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los príncipes, volvieron de los hijos de Rubén y de los hijos de Gad, de la tierra de Galaad, a la tierra de Canaán, a los hijos de Israel, y les trajeron la noticia.

Then Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, and the leaders returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites, out of the land of Gilead, back to the land of Canaan, to the people of Israel, and brought back word to them.

33 Esto agradó a los hijos de Israel; y los hijos de Israel bendijeron a Dios, y no hablaron más de subir contra ellos a la guerra, para destruir la tierra en que vivían los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.

Their report was good in the eyes of the people of Israel. The people of Israel blessed God and spoke no more about making war against the Reubenites and the Gadites, in order to destroy the land where they had settled.

34 Los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad llamaron al altar “Testigo entre nosotros de que Yahvé es Dios”.

The Reubenites and the Gadites named the altar “Witness,” for they said, “It is a witness between us that Yahweh is God.”
