2 Crónicas 10
1 Roboam fue a Siquem, porque todo Israel había acudido a Siquem para hacerle rey.
And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem had all Israel come to make him king.
2 Cuando Jeroboam hijo de Nabat se enteró de ello (pues estaba en Egipto, donde había huido de la presencia del rey Salomón), Jeroboam volvió de Egipto.
And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt.
3 Enviaron y lo llamaron; y vino Jeroboam y todo Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo:
And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4 “Tu padre hizo gravoso nuestro yugo. Ahora, pues, aligera el penoso servicio de tu padre y el pesado yugo que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos”.
Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
5 Les dijo: “Volved a mí después de tres días”. Así que la gente se fue.
And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed.
6 El rey Roboam consultó a los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón, su padre, cuando aún vivía, diciendo: “¿Qué consejo me dais sobre cómo responder a esta gente?”
And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
7 Le hablaron diciendo: “Si eres amable con esta gente, la complaces y les hablas con buenas palabras, entonces serán tus siervos para siempre.”
And they spoke to him, saying, If thou wilt be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8 Pero abandonó el consejo de los ancianos que le habían dado, y tomó consejo con los jóvenes que habían crecido con él, que estaban delante de él.
But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
9 Les dijo: “¿Qué consejo les dais para que respondamos a esta gente, que me ha hablado diciendo: “Aligera el yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros”?”
And he said to them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father put upon us?
10 Los jóvenes que se habían criado con él le hablaron diciendo: “Así dirás al pueblo que te habló diciendo: “Tu padre hizo pesado nuestro yugo, pero aligéralo sobre nosotros”; así les dirás: “Mi dedo meñique es más grueso que la cintura de mi padre”.
And the young men that were brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spoke to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s thighs.
11 Ahora bien, mientras mi padre os cargó con un yugo pesado, yo añadiré a vuestro yugo. Mi padre os castigó con látigos, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones’”.
For though my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12 Entonces Jeroboam y todo el pueblo vinieron a Roboam al tercer día, tal como el rey lo había pedido, diciendo: “Volved a mí al tercer día”.
So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king appointed, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
13 El rey les respondió con aspereza; y el rey Roboam abandonó el consejo de los ancianos,
And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
14 y les habló según el consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: “Mi padre hizo pesado vuestro yugo, pero yo lo aumentaré. Mi padre os castigó con látigos, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones”.
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15 Así que el rey no escuchó al pueblo, pues esto fue provocado por Dios, para que Yahvé confirmara su palabra, que habló por medio de Ahías el silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.
So the king hearkened not to the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 Cuando todo Israel vio que el rey no los escuchaba, el pueblo respondió al rey diciendo: “¿Qué parte tenemos en David? ¡No tenemos herencia en el hijo de Isaí! ¡Cada uno a sus tiendas, Israel! Ahora ocúpate de tu propia casa, David”. Y todo Israel se fue a sus tiendas.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thy own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
17 Pero en cuanto a los hijos de Israel que vivían en las ciudades de Judá, Roboam reinó sobre ellos.
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18 Entonces el rey Roboam envió a Hadoram, que estaba a cargo de los hombres sometidos a trabajos forzados, y los hijos de Israel lo mataron a pedradas. El rey Roboam se apresuró a subir a su carro, para huir a Jerusalén.
Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the forced labour; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get into his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 Así se rebeló Israel contra la casa de David hasta el día de hoy.
And Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
