Josué 4
1 Cuando todo el pueblo hubo acabado de pasar el Jordán, habló Yahvé a Josué, diciendo:
And it came to pass when the whole nation had completely gone over the Jordan, that Jehovah spoke to Joshua, saying,
2 “Tomaos de entre el pueblo doce hombres, uno de cada tribu,
Take you twelve men out of the people, one man out of every tribe,
3 y dadles esta orden: De ahí, de en medio del Jordán, del lugar donde se han parado los pies de los sacerdotes, tomad doce piedras, que llevaréis con vosotros para colocarlas en el lugar donde acampéis esta noche.”
and command them, saying, Take up hence out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place where ye shall lodge this night.
4 Llamó Josué a los doce hombres que había elegido de entre los hijos de Israel, uno de cada tribu;
And Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had appointed of the children of Israel, a man out of every tribe;
5 y les dijo: “Id al medio del Jordán, hasta donde está el Arca de Yahvé, vuestro Dios, y cada uno de vosotros cargue una piedra sobre su hombro, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.
and Joshua said to them, Pass before the ark of Jehovah your God into the midst of the Jordan, and lift up each of you a stone [and put it] upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel,
6 y sirva esto de señal en medio de vosotros. Cuando el día de mañana preguntaren vuestros hijos diciendo: ‘¿Qué significan para vosotros estas piedras?’,
that this may be a sign in your midst. When your children ask hereafter, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
7 les responderéis: “Las aguas del Jordán se cortaron ante el Arca de la Alianza de Yahvé. Cuando ella pasó el Jordán, se partieron en dos las aguas del Jordán; y estas piedras han de ser un monumento sempiterno para los hijos de Israel.”
then ye shall say to them, That the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; when it went through the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
8 Los hijos de Israel lo hicieron así como Josué había ordenado. Tomaron doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, como Yahvé lo había mandado a Josué, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel; y llevándolas consigo al lugar en que habían de acampar las asentaron allí.
And the children of Israel did so, as Joshua had commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the lodging-place, and laid them down there.
9 Josué erigió también doce piedras en medio del Jordán, donde habían estado los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca de la Alianza, y allí han quedado hasta el día de hoy.
And twelve stones did Joshua set up in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant had stood firm; and they are there to this day.
10 Los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca se habían quedado parados en medio del Jordán hasta el cumplimiento de todo lo que Yahvé había mandado a Josué que intimara al pueblo, conforme a cuanto Moisés había ordenado a Josué. Entretanto, el pueblo atravesó a toda prisa (el Jordán),
And the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Jehovah had commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua. And the people hasted and passed over.
11 y cuando todo el pueblo hubo acabado de pasar, pasó también el Arca de Yahvé juntamente con los sacerdotes, a vista del pueblo.
And it came to pass, when all the people had completely gone over, that the ark of Jehovah went over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
12 Pasaron también armados al frente de los israelitas los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés, según les había ordenado Moisés.
And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh, went over in array before the children of Israel, as Moses had spoken to them.
13 Estos, unos cuarenta mil, armados para la guerra, pasaron delante de Yahvé a la batalla, a los llanos de Jericó.
About forty thousand armed for military service passed over before Jehovah to the war, unto the plains of Jericho.
14 En aquel día Yahvé engrandeció a Josué a los ojos de todo Israel, de manera que le respetaron como habían respetado a Moisés, todos los días de su vida.
On that day Jehovah magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.
15 Yahvé habló entonces a Josué, diciendo:
And Jehovah spoke to Joshua, saying,
16 “Manda a los sacerdotes que llevan el Arca del Testimonio, que suban del Jordán.”
Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.
17 Mandó, pues, Josué a los sacerdotes, diciendo: “¡Subid del Jordán!”
And Joshua commanded the priests, saying, Come up out of the Jordan.
18 Y cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca de la Alianza de Yahvé, subieron de en medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes hubieron alcanzado la tierra seca, volvieron las aguas del Jordán a su lugar, desbordándose, como anteriormente, por todas sus riberas.
And it came to pass when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah had come up out of the midst of the Jordan, [when] the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up on to the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and they flowed as previously, over all its banks.
19 El pueblo salió del Jordán el día diez del mes primero, y acamparon en Gálgala, en la frontera oriental de Jericó.
And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the eastern extremity of Jericho.
20 En Gálgala erigió Josué aquellas doce piedras sacadas del Jordán,
And those twelve stones which they had taken out of the Jordan did Joshua set up in Gilgal.
21 y habló a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: “Cuando el día de mañana vuestros hijos preguntaren a sus padres, diciendo: ¿Qué significan estas piedras?,
And he spoke to the children of Israel, saying, When your children hereafter ask their fathers, saying, What [mean] these stones?
22 instruiréis a vuestros hijos, y diréis: A pie enjuto pasó Israel este Jordán,
then ye shall let your children know, saying, On dry land did Israel come over this Jordan;
23 secando Yahvé, vuestro Dios, delante de vosotros las aguas del Jordán hasta que hubisteis pasado, como lo hizo Yahvé, vuestro Dios, con el Mar Rojo, al cual secó delante de nosotros, hasta que hubimos pasado;
because Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until ye had passed over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over;
24 para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan que la mano de Yahvé es poderosa y vosotros temáis a Yahvé, vuestro Dios, en todo tiempo.”
that all peoples of the earth might know the hand of Jehovah, that it is mighty; that ye might fear Jehovah your God continually.
