2 Samuel 19

1 Dijeron a Joab: “He aquí que el rey llora y hace duelo por Absalón.”

And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

2 De modo que en aquel día la victoria se trocó en luto para todo el pueblo; porque el pueblo supo en ese día que el rey se afligía por su hijo.

And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day, The king grieveth for his son.

3 En aquel día el pueblo entró en la ciudad a hurtadillas como suele entrar furtivamente la gente avergonzada cuando huye en la batalla.

And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

4 El rey se había cubierto el rostro y clamaba en alta voz: “¡Hijo mío, Absalón! ¡Absalón, hijo mío, hijo mío!”

And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

5 Entró entonces Joab en casa del rey y le dijo: “Has cubierto hoy de confusión el rostro de todos tus siervos, que hoy han salvado tu vida, y la vida de tus hijos y de tus hijas, y la vida de tus esposas y de tus mujeres secundarias.

And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, which this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

6 Tú amas a los que te aborrecen, y aborreces a los que te aman. Porque hoy has mostrado que nada te importan ni príncipes, ni siervos; pues ahora sé que si Absalón viviera y nosotros todos estuviéramos hoy muertos, te darías por satisfecho.

in that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

7 Levántate ahora y sal fuera, y habla al corazón de tus siervos. Pues juro por Yahvé que si no sales, no quedará un solo hombre contigo esta noche. Y esto será para ti un mal peor que todos los males que han venido sobre ti desde tu mocedad hasta ahora.”

Now therefore arise, go forth and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.

8 Con esto se levantó el rey y se sentó a la puerta, y se le dio a todo el pueblo esta noticia: “He aquí que el rey está sentado a la puerta.” Y todo el pueblo se presentó delante del rey. Entretanto los de Israel habían huido cada cual a su tienda.

Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

9 Todo el pueblo, en todas las tribus de Israel, disputaba entre sí, diciendo: “El rey nos libró del poder de nuestros enemigos, él nos salvó de las manos de los filisteos, y ahora ha huido del país a causa de Absalón.

And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.

10 Ahora bien, Absalón, a quien habíamos ungido por rey sobre nosotros, ha muerto en la batalla. ¿Por qué, pues, no hacéis nada para traer al rey?”

And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?

11 El rey David envió entonces a decir a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar: “Hablad con los ancianos de Judá, diciendo: ¿Cómo es que sois vosotros los últimos en hacer volver al rey a su casa? Pues lo que en todo Israel se decía había llegado a la casa del rey.

And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, [to bring him] to his house.

12 Vosotros sois mis hermanos, sois huesos míos y carne mía; ¿por qué, pues, sois los últimos en hacer volver al rey?

Ye are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

13 Decid también a Amasá: ¿No eres tú mi hueso y mi carne? Esto y aún más me haga Dios, si no has de ser delante de mí jefe vitalicio del ejército, en lugar de Joab.”

And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

14 Así ganó el corazón de todos los hombres de Judá, como si fuese un solo hombre; y enviaron a decir al rey: “Vuelve tú y todos tus siervos.”

And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as [the heart of] one man; so that they sent unto the king, [saying], Return thou, and all thy servants.

15 Volvió, pues, el rey, y vino al Jordán. Los de Judá habían ido al encuentro del rey hasta Gálgala, a fin de ayudarle en el paso del Jordán.

So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over Jordan.

16 También Semeí, hijo de Gerá, de los hijos de Benjamín, de Bahurim, se apresuró a descender con los hombres de Judá para recibir al rey David;

And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

17 y con él mil hombres de Benjamín; y Sibá, siervo de la casa de Saúl, y con él sus quince hijos y sus veinte siervos, que pasaron el Jordán delante del rey.

And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through Jordan in the presence of the king.

18 Cruzaron el vado para pasar a la familia del rey y ponerse a su disposición. Entonces Semeí, hijo de Gerá, se postró delante del rey, en el momento que este iba a pasar el Jordán,

And there went over a ferry boat to bring over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he was come over Jordan.

19 y dijo al rey: “¡No me impute mi señor la iniquidad, y no se acuerde de lo que hice perversamente el día en que mi señor, el rey, salió de Jerusalén! ¡No haga el rey caso de ello!

And he said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

20 Porque bien sabe tu siervo que ha pecado. He aquí que he venido hoy, el primero de toda la casa de José, para bajar al encuentro de mi señor el rey.”

For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

21 Entonces Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, tomó la palabra y dijo: “¿Acaso no ha de morir Semeí, por haber maldecido al ungido de Yahvé?”

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD’S anointed?

22 Pero David dijo: “¿Qué tengo yo que ver con vosotros, hijos de Sarvia? ¿Por qué me tentáis? Nadie ha de morir hoy en Israel, pues he visto que hoy seré (de nuevo) rey sobre Israel.”

And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

23 Y dijo el rey a Semeí: “No morirás.” Y se lo juró el rey.

And the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

24 También Mefibóset, hijo de Saúl, había descendido al encuentro del rey. No había cuidado sus pies, ni compuesto la barba, ni lavado la ropa, desde el día que subió el rey hasta el día que volvió en paz.

And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

25 Cuando vino de Jerusalén al encuentro del rey, este le dijo: “¿Por qué no fuiste conmigo, Mefibóset?”

And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

26 Respóndió él: “¡Oh rey y señor mío, mi siervo me ha engañado! Porque tu siervo había dicho: Me aparejaré el asno, y montaré en él para ir con el rey, por cuanto tu siervo es cojo.

And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.

27 Además, ha calumniado a tu siervo delante de mi señor, el rey. Pero mi señor, el rey, es como un ángel de Dios; haz lo que mejor te parezca.

And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

28 Pues aunque todos los de la casa de mi padre no hemos merecido del rey, mi señor, sino la muerte, pusiste tú a tu siervo entre los que comen a tu mesa. ¿Qué derecho tengo yo todavía para pedir al rey cosa alguna?”

For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more unto the king?

29 El rey le dijo: “¿Por qué hablas tanto de tus asuntos? Ya lo he dicho: Tú y Sibá os repartiréis las tierras.”

And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

30 Y dijo Mefibóset al rey: “Tómeselas él todas, ya que el rey, mi señor, ha vuelto en paz a su casa.”

And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house:

31 También Barzillai, el galaadita, bajó desde Rogelim, y pasó el Jordán con el rey, para escoltarlo en el paso del Jordán.

And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.

32 Era Barzillai muy anciano, tenía ya ochenta años y había abastecido al rey durante su estancia en Mahanaim, porque era hombre muy rico.

Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

33 Dijo el rey a Barzillai: “Pasa adelante conmigo, y te sustentaré junto a mí en Jerusalén.”

And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.

34 Barzillai respondió al rey: “¿Cuántos años podré vivir todavía? No vale la pena subir con el rey a Jerusalén.

And Barzillai said unto the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

35 Tengo ahora ochenta años. ¿Puedo yo, acaso, distinguir entre lo bueno y lo malo? ¿Puede tu siervo gustar lo que come y lo que bebe? ¿O puedo oír ya la voz de cantores y de cantoras? ¿Cómo, pues, tu siervo ha de servir de carga a mi señor, el rey?

I am this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

36 Solo un corto trecho acompañará tu siervo al rey en el Jordán. ¿Y por qué quiere el rey darme esta recompensa?

Thy servant would but just go over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

37 Permite, pues, que se vuelva tu siervo, para que muera en mi ciudad, junto al sepulcro de mi padre y de mi madre. Pero ahí tienes a tu siervo Camaam. Pase él con mi señor, el rey, y haz con él lo que bien te parezca.”

Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

38 Respondió el rey: “¡Pase, pues, conmigo Camaam! ¡Con él haré lo que te plazca; pues te otorgaré todo cuanto me pidas!”

And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

39 Cuando todo el pueblo hubo cruzado el Jordán, pasó también el rey. Entonces besó el rey a Barzillai y le bendijo; y este volvió a su lugar.

And all the people went over Jordan, and the king went over: and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

40 El rey pasó a Gálgala, acompañándole Camaam. Todo el pueblo de Judá y la mitad del pueblo de Israel escoltaban al rey.

So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

41 Y he aquí que vinieron al rey todos los hombres de Israel y le dijeron: “¿Por qué nuestros hermanos, los hombres de Judá, te han secuestrado, pasando por el Jordán al rey y a su casa y a todos los hombres de la comitiva de David?”

And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king; and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over Jordan, and all David’s men with him?

42 Entonces respondieron todos los hombres de Judá a los hombres de Israel: “Es que el rey es pariente nuestro. ¿Por qué os enojáis por eso? ¿Hemos acaso comido a costa del rey? ¿Hemos recibido algo de él?”

And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift?

43 Replicaron los hombres de Israel a los hombres de Judá, diciendo: “Nosotros tenemos diez partes en el rey, por lo cual David nos pertenece más a nosotros que a vosotros. ¿Por qué, pues, nos habéis hecho este agravio? ¿No fue nuestra palabra la primera para traer a nuestro rey?” Y fue más dura la respuesta de los hombres de Judá que la de los hombres de Israel.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king; and we have also more [right] in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
