2 Crónicas 28

1 Tenía Acaz veinte años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó diez y seis años en Jerusalén. No hizo lo que era recto a los ojos de Yahvé, como lo había hecho su padre David.

Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. He didn’t do that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, like David his father,

2 Siguió los caminos de los reyes de Israel, hasta hacer estatuas de fundición para los Baales.

but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made molten images for the Baals.

3 Quemó incienso en el valle de Ben-Hinnom, e hizo pasar a sus hijos por el fuego, según las abominaciones de los gentiles que Yahvé había arrojado de delante de los hijos de Israel.

Moreover he burned incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burned his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel.

4 Ofrecía sacrificios y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos, sobre los collados y bajo todo árbol frondoso.

He sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 Yahvé, su Dios, lo entregó en manos del rey de los sirios, que lo derrotaron, haciéndole gran número de prisioneros, a los que llevaron a Damasco. Fue entregado también en manos del rey de Israel, el cual le infligió una gran derrota.

Therefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. They struck him, and carried away from him a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter.

6 Pues Facee, hijo de Romelías, mató en Judá en un solo día a ciento veinte mil, todos ellos hombres valientes; porque habían abandonado a Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres.

For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in Judah one hundred twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

7 Sicrí, uno de los valientes de Efraím, mató a Maasías, hijo del rey, a Asricam, mayordomo de palacio, y a Elcaná, que era el segundo después del rey.

Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king’s son, Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah who was next to the king.

8 Los hijos de Israel hicieron entre sus hermanos doscientos prisioneros: mujeres e hijos e hijas. Se apoderaron también de un enorme botín que se llevaron a Samaria.

The children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters, and also took away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria.

9 Había allí un profeta de Yahvé, llamado Oded, que salió al encuentro del ejército que volvía a Samaria, y les dijo: “He aquí que Yahvé, el Dios de vuestros padres, irritado contra Judá, los ha entregado en vuestras manos, mas vosotros los habéis matado con un furor que ha subido hasta el cielo.

But a prophet of Yahweh was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, “Behold, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven.

10 Y ahora pensáis en sujetar a los hijos de Judá y de Jerusalén, como siervos y siervas vuestros. ¿No sois también vosotros culpables contra Yahvé, vuestro Dios?

Now you intend to degrade the children of Judah and Jerusalem as male and female slaves for yourselves. Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against Yahweh your God?

11 Oídme, pues, y dejad volver a vuestros hermanos, que habéis tomado prisioneros, porque os amenaza el furor de la ira de Yahvé.”

Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives that you have taken captive from your brothers, for the fierce wrath of Yahweh is on you.”

12 Entonces algunos hombres de los príncipes de Efraím, Asarías, hijo de Johanán; Baraquías, hijo de Mesillemot; Ezequías, hijo de Sallum, y Amasá, hijo de Hadlai, se levantaron contra los que habían vuelto de la guerra,

Then some of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who came from the war,

13 y les dijeron: “¡No introduciréis aquí a los prisioneros! porque además de la culpa contra Yahvé que ya está sobre nosotros, queréis aumentar todavía nuestros pecados y nuestra culpa; pues grande es nuestra culpa, y el furor de la ira (de Dios) amenaza a Israel.”

and said to them, “You must not bring in the captives here, for you intend that which will bring on us a trespass against Yahweh, to add to our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”

14 Con eso los guerreros dejaron los prisioneros y el botín delante de los príncipes y de toda la asamblea.

So the armed men left the captives and the plunder before the princes and all the assembly.

15 Entonces se levantaron los hombres designados nominalmente, y tomando a los prisioneros, vistieron con el botín a todos los desnudos entre ellos, dándoles vestido y calzado. Les dieron también de comer y de beber y los ungieron; y transportando en asnos a todos los débiles, los llevaron a Jericó, ciudad de las palmetas, donde estaban sus hermanos. Luego se volvieron a Samaria.

The men who have been mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.

16 En aquel tiempo el rey Acaz envió mensajeros a los reyes de Asiria para pedir auxilio.

At that time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.

17 Pues los idumeos vinieron otra vez y derrotaron a Judá, llevándose prisioneros.

For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives.

18 También los filisteos se habían derramado sobre las ciudades de la Sefelá, y del Négueb de Judá, y habían tomado a Betsemes, Ayalón, Gaderot y Socó con sus aldeas, a Timná con sus aldeas, y a Gimzó con sus aldeas, donde se establecieron.

The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and also Gimzo and its villages; and they lived there.

19 Porque Yahvé humillaba a Judá a causa de Acaz, rey de Israel, que había sublevado a Judá (contra Yahvé), después que él mismo había apostatado de Yahvé.

For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, because he acted without restraint in Judah and trespassed severely against Yahweh.

20 En efecto, vino a él Teglatfalnasar, rey de Asiria; pero le estrechó en vez de fortalecerle.

Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him.

21 Pues Acaz tuvo que despojar la Casa de Yahvé y la casa del rey y de los príncipes, para satisfacer al rey de Asiria, pero esto no le sirvió de nada.

For Ahaz took away a portion out of Yahweh’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but it didn’t help him.

22 Aun en el tiempo de la angustia el rey Acaz continuó pecando cada vez más contra Yahvé.

In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against Yahweh, this same King Ahaz.

23 Ofrecía sacrificios a los dioses de Damasco que le habían batido; pues se decía: “Los dioses de los reyes de Siria les ayudan a ellos; por eso yo también les ofreceré sacrificios, para que me ayuden a mí.” Sin embargo, fueron ellos la causa de su ruina y de la de todo Israel.

For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus which had defeated him. He said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.

24 Acaz juntó los utensilios de la Casa de Dios, cortó en pedazos todos los objetos de la Casa de Dios, y después de cerrar las puertas de la Casa de Yahvé se fabricó altares en todas las esquinas de Jerusalén.

Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, cut the vessels of God’s house in pieces, and shut up the doors of Yahweh’s house; and he made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

25 Erigió asimismo lugares altos en cada una de las ciudades de Judá, para quemar incienso a otros dioses, provocando así la ira de Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres.

In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked Yahweh, the God of his fathers, to anger.

26 El resto de sus hechos y todas sus obras, las primeras y las postreras, he aquí que esto está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá e Israel.

Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

27 Acaz se durmió con sus padres, y lo sepultaron dentro de la ciudad, en Jerusalén; pues no le colocaron en los sepulcros de los reyes de Israel. En su lugar reinó su hijo Ezequías.

Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem, because they didn’t bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.
