2 Crónicas 14

1 Abías se durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Asá, en cuyo tiempo el país tuvo paz durante diez años.

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.

2 Asá hizo lo que era bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahvé, su Dios. Suprimió los altares extraños y los lugares altos;

Asa did that which was good and right in the LORD his God’s eyes,

3 quebró las piedras de culto, taló las ascheras

for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,

4 e inculcó a Judá que buscase a Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres y cumpliese la Ley de los mandamientos.

and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.

5 En todas las ciudades de Judá hizo desaparecer los lugares altos y los pilares del sol; y el reino estuvo en paz bajo su reinado.

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

6 Edificó ciudades fuertes en Judá, porque el país estaba en paz, y no hubo guerra contra él por aquellos años; pues Yahvé le había dado reposo.

He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest.

7 Dijo (Asá) a Judá: “Edifiquemos estas ciudades, cercándolas de murallas, torres, puertas y cerrojos, mientras el país esté (en paz) delante de nosotros; porque hemos buscado a Yahvé nuestro Dios; y por haberle buscado, Él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes.” Edificaron y prosperaron.

For he said to Judah, “Let’s build these cities and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

8 Asa tenía un ejército de trescientos mil hombres de Judá, que llevaban broquel y lanza, y de doscientos ochenta mil de Benjamín, que llevaban escudos y eran arqueros; todos estos valientes guerreros.

Asa had an army of three hundred thousand out of Judah who bore bucklers and spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand out of Benjamin who bore shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valour.

9 Salió contra ellos Zarah etíope con un ejército de un millón (de hombres) y trescientos carros, y llegó hasta Maresá.

Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million troops and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

10 Asá salió contra él, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresá.

Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 Entonces Asá invocó a Yahvé, su Dios, y dijo: “¡Oh Yahvé, en tu poder está ayudar a los fuertes o a los que no tienen ninguna fuerza! Ayúdanos, pues, Yahvé, Dios nuestro, porque en Ti nos apoyamos y en tu nombre hemos salido contra esta inmensa multitud. ¡Yahvé, Tú eres nuestro Dios! ¡No prevalezca contra Ti hombre alguno!”

Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, LORD our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. LORD, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”

12 En efecto, Yahvé deshizo a los etíopes delante de Asá y Judá; y los etíopes se pusieron en fuga.

So the LORD struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

13 Asá y la gente que con él estaba, los persiguieron hasta Gerar; y cayeron de los etíopes tantos que no pudieron rehacerse, pues fueron destrozados delante de Yahvé y su ejército; y (los de Judá) se llevaron un botín inmenso.

Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before the LORD and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.

14 Destruyeron también todas las ciudades en los alrededores de Gerar; porque el terror de Yahvé las había invadido; y, saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había en ellas un gran botín.

They struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD came on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.

15 Asimismo atacaron las majadas y capturaron gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Después se volvieron a Jerusalén.

They also struck the tents of those who had livestock, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, then returned to Jerusalem.
