1 Crónicas 21
1 Satanás se alzó contra Israel e instigó a David a hacer el censo de Israel.
Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.
2 Dijo, pues, David a Joab y a los príncipes del pueblo: “Id, contad a los israelitas desde Bersabee hasta Dan, y dadme aviso para que yo sepa su número.”
David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, count Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know how many there are.”
3 Respondió Joab: “¡Multiplique Yahvé su pueblo cien veces más de lo que es! ¿Acaso no son, oh rey, señor mío, todos ellos siervos de mi señor? ¿Por qué, pues, pide esto mi señor? ¿Por qué traer culpa sobre Israel?”
Joab said, “May the LORD make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren’t they all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”
4 Pero la palabra del rey prevaleció contra Joab, de modo que este salió y recorrió todo Israel, para volver después a Jerusalén.
Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed and went throughout all Israel, then came to Jerusalem.
5 Dio entonces Joab a David la suma del censo del pueblo; y era todo Israel un millón cien mil hombres que ceñían espada; y en Judá había cuatrocientos setenta mil hombres aptos para la guerra.
Joab gave the sum of the census of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew a sword; and in Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men who drew a sword.
6 No incluyó en este censo a Leví y Benjamín, porque Joab detestaba la orden del rey.
But he didn’t count Levi and Benjamin amongst them, for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7 Desagradó esto a Dios, por lo cual castigó a Israel.
God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel.
8 Entonces dijo David a Dios: “He pecado gravemente en hacer esto. Perdona, ahora, te ruego, la iniquidad de tu siervo, pues he obrado muy insensatamente.”
David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”
9 Luego habló Yahvé a Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:
The LORD spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10 “Ve a decir a David lo siguiente: Así dice Yahvé: Tres cosas voy a proponerte; escógete una de ellas, y Yo te la haré.”
“Go and speak to David, saying, ‘The LORD says, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”
11 Fue Gad a David y le dijo: “Así dice Yahvé: Elige para ti:
So Gad came to David and said to him, “The LORD says, ‘Take your choice:
12 o tres años de hambre, o tres meses durante los cuales seas presa de tus adversarios y alcanzado por la espada de tus enemigos, o tres días durante los cuales la espada de Yahvé y la peste ande por la tierra y el Ángel de Yahvé haga estragos en todo el territorio de Israel. Ahora bien, considera qué respuesta he de dar al que me ha enviado.”
either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even pestilence in the land, and the LORD’s angel destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’”
13 David respondió a Gad: “Me veo en grandes angustias. ¡Pero caiga yo en manos de Yahvé, porque sus misericordias son muy grandes, y no caiga en mano de los hombres!”
David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into the LORD’s hand, for his mercies are very great. Don’t let me fall into man’s hand.”
14 Entonces envió Yahvé la peste sobre Israel, y cayeron de Israel setenta mil hombres.
So the LORD sent a pestilence on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.
15 Dios envió también un Ángel contra Jerusalén para destruirla; pero cuando ya estaba destruyéndola, echó Yahvé una mirada y se arrepintió del estrago, y dijo al Ángel destructor: “¡Basta; detén ahora tu mano!” El Ángel de Yahvé se hallaba cerca de la era de Ornan jebuseo.
God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, the LORD saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” the LORD’s angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Alzando los ojos vio David al Ángel de Yahvé cómo estaba entre la tierra y el cielo, con una espada desenvainada en su mano, extendida contra Jerusalén. Entonces David, y los ancianos, cubiertos de saco, cayeron sobre sus rostros.
David lifted up his eyes, and saw the LORD’s angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
17 Y dijo David a Dios: “Yo soy quien mandé hacer el censo del pueblo. Yo soy quien he pecado y hecho el mal; pero estas ovejas ¿qué han hecho? ¡Oh Yahvé, Dios mío, te ruego que sea tu mano contra mí y contra la casa de mi padre, y no haya plaga entre tu pueblo!”
David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O LORD my God, be against me and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”
18 Entonces el Ángel de Yahvé dijo a Gad que diera a David la orden de subir para levantar un altar a Yahvé en la era de Ornan jebuseo.
Then the LORD’s angel commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up and raise an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 Subió, pues, David, según la orden que Gad le había dado en nombre de Yahvé.
David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the LORD’s name.
20 Ornan, que estaba trillando el trigo, se dio vuelta, pero al ver al Ángel, él y sus cuatro hijos se escondieron.
Ornan turned back and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Cuando David llegó a Ornan, miró Ornan, y viendo a David salió de la era y se postró ante David, rostro en tierra.
As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Dijo David a Ornan: “Dame el sitio de la era para que edifique en él un altar a Yahvé —dámelo por su pleno valor en plata—, a fin de que la plaga se retire del pueblo.”
Then David said to Ornan, “Sell me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
23 Respondió Ornan a David: “Tómalo; y haga mi señor el rey lo que mejor le parezca. Mira que te doy dos bueyes para holocaustos, los trillos para leña, y el trigo para la ofrenda; todo te lo doy.”
Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.”
24 Replicó el rey David a Ornan: “No, sino que lo compraré por su pleno valor en plata, pues no tomaré para Yahvé lo que es tuyo ni ofreceré holocaustos que nada me cuesten.”
King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for the LORD, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
25 Y dio David a Ornan por el sitio la suma de seiscientos siclos de oro.
So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
26 David edificó allí un altar a Yahvé, y ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios pacíficos, e invocó a Yahvé, el cual respondió enviando fuego desde el cielo sobre el altar del holocausto.
David built an altar to the LORD there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the LORD; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
27 Entonces Yahvé dio orden al Ángel; y este volvió su espada a la vaina.
Then the LORD commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.
28 En aquel tiempo, después de ver que Yahvé le había oído en la era de Ornan jebuseo, ofreció David allí sacrificios.
At that time, when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 Pues la Morada de Yahvé que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar de los holocaustos, estaban a la sazón en el lugar alto de Gabaón;
For the LORD’s tabernacle, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30 más David no se animaba a presentarse delante de él para consultar a Dios, porque había sido aterrado por la espada del Ángel de Yahvé.
But David couldn’t go before it to enquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the LORD’s angel.
