Притчи Соломона 25
1 Сия притчи Соломони бывшыя нерасположенны, яже списаша друзие Езекии царя Иудейска.
These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.
2 Слава Божия крыет слово, слава же царева почитает повеления Его.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a thing.
3 Небо высоко, земля же глубока: сердце же царево необличително.
The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Куй неискушенное сребро, и очистится чисто все.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner:
5 Убивай нечестивыя от лица царева, и исправится в правде престол его.
take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Не гордися пред лицем царевым и на месте сильных не стани:
Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great;
7 лучше бо ти есть, егда речет: взыди ко мне: нежели смиритися тебе пред лицем сильнаго.
for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.
8 Иже видеста очи твои, глаголи. Не впадай в тяжбу скоро, да не раскаешися послежди, егда тебе досадит друг твой.
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9 Вступай вспять, не неради, да не поносит убо тебе друг:
Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;
10 свара же твоя и вражда твоя не отступит, но будет ти равна со смертию. Благодать и любы свобождает, в нихже утверди себе, да не в поношении будеши, но сохрани пути твоя добре устроены.
lest he that heareth [it] disgrace thee, and thine evil report turn not away.
11 (Якоже) яблоко злато во усерязи сардийскаго камене, сице рещи слово при приличных ему.
[As] apples of gold in pictures of silver, is a word spoken in season.
12 И (якоже) во усерязь златый сардийский камень многоценный вяжется, (сице) слово премудро во ухо благопослушно.
An ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, is a wise reprover upon an attentive ear.
13 Якоже исходище снега в жатву зноя пользует, тако вестник верен пославших его: душы бо употребляющих его пользует.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so] is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 Якоже ветри и облацы и дождеве являющиися, тако и хвалящийся о даянии ложнем.
Clouds and wind without rain, [so] is a man that boasteth himself of a false gift.
15 В долготерпении благополучие царем: язык же мякок сокрушает кости.
By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Мед обрет яждь умеренно, да не како пресыщен изблюеши.
Hast thou found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be surfeited therewith, and vomit it.
17 Не учащай вносити ногу твою ко другу твоему, да не когда насыщься тебе, возненавидит тя.
Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee and hate thee.
18 Дреколь и мечь и стрела остра, тако и муж свидетелствуяй на друга своего свидетелство ложное.
A maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.
19 Путь злаго и нога законопреступнаго погибнут в день зол.
A broken tooth, and a tottering foot, is confidence in an unfaithful [man] in the day of trouble.
20 Якоже оцет неполезен вреду и дым очима, тако припадшая страсть в телеси сердце оскорбляет.
[As] he that taketh off a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a sad heart.
21 Якоже молие в ризе и червие в древе, тако печаль мужу вредит сердце.
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 Аще алчет враг твой, ухлеби его: аще ли жаждет, напой его:
for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and Jehovah shall reward thee.
23 сие бо творя, углие огненное собираеши на главу его, Господь же воздаст тебе благая.
The north wind bringeth forth rain, and the angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 Ветр северный воздвизает облаки, лице же безстудно язык раздражает.
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.
25 Лучше жити во угле непокрытем, неже во храмине общей со женою клеветливою.
[As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 Якоже вода студеная души жаждущей благоприятна, тако весть благая от земли издалеча.
A troubled fountain, and a defiled well, is a righteous [man] that giveth way before the wicked.
27 Якоже аще кто источник заграждает и исходище воды губит, тако не лепо праведнику пасти пред нечестивым.
It is not good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is [itself] a weight.
28 Ясти мед много не добро: почитати же подобает словеса славна. Якоже град стенами разорен и не огражден, тако муж творяй что без совета.
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is [as] a city broken down, without walls.
