Poslovice 6
1 Sine moj, kad se podjemèiš za prijatelja svojega, i daš ruku svoju tuðincu,
My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger,
2 Vezao si se rijeèima usta svojih, uhvatio si se rijeèima usta svojih.
you are trapped by the words of your mouth; you are ensnared with the words of your mouth.
3 Zato uèini tako, sine moj, i oprosti se, jer si dopao u ruke bližnjemu svojemu; idi, pripadni, i navali na bližnjega svojega.
Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.
4 Ne daj sna oèima svojima, ni vjeðama svojima drijema.
Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.
5 Otmi se kao srna iz ruke lovcu, i kao ptica iz ruke ptièaru.
Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.
6 Idi k mravu, ljenivèe, gledaj putove njegove, i omudraj.
Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;
7 Nema voða ni upravitelja ni gospodara;
which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
8 I opet pripravlja ljeti sebi hranu, zbira uz žetvu piæu svoju.
provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
9 Dokle æeš, ljenivèe, ležati? kad æeš ustati od sna svojega?
How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
10 Dok malo prospavaš, dok malo prodrijemlješ, dok malo sklopiš ruke da prilegneš,
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep—
11 Utom æe doæi siromaštvo tvoje kao putnik i oskudica tvoja kao oružan èovjek.
so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.
12 Èovjek nevaljao i nitkov hodi sa zlijem ustima;
A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth,
13 Namiguje oèima, govori nogama, pokazuje prstima;
who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers,
14 Svaka mu je opaèina u srcu, kuje zlo svagda, zameæe svaðu.
in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.
15 Zato æe ujedanput doæi pogibao njegova, èasom æe se satrti i neæe biti lijeka.
Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.
16 Na ovo šestoro mrzi Gospod, i sedmo je gad duši njegovoj:
There are six things which the LORD hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:
17 Oèi ponosite, jezik lažljiv i ruke koje proljevaju krv pravu,
arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 Srce koje kuje zle misli, noge koje brzo trèe na zlo,
a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 Lažan svjedok koji govori laž, i ko zameæe svaðu meðu braæom.
a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.
20 Èuvaj, sine moj, zapovijest oca svojega, i ne ostavljaj nauke matere svoje.
My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.
21 Priveži ih sebi na srce zasvagda, i spuèi ih sebi oko grla.
Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.
22 Kuda god poðeš, vodiæe te; kad zaspiš, èuvaæe te; kad se probudiš, razgovaraæe te;
When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.
23 Jer je zapovijest žižak, i nauka je vidjelo, i put je životni karanje koje pouèava;
For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 Da te èuvaju od zle žene, od jezika kojim laska žena tuða.
to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.
25 Ne zaželi u srcu svom ljepote njezine, i nemoj da te uhvati vjeðama svojim.
Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.
26 Jer sa žene kurve spada èovjek na komad hljeba, i žena pusta lovi dragocjenu dušu.
For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.
27 Hoæe li ko uzeti ognja u njedra a haljine da mu se ne upale?
Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Hoæe li ko hoditi po živom ugljevlju a nogu da ne ožeže?
Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
29 Tako biva onome koji ide k ženi bližnjega svojega; neæe biti bez krivice ko je se god dotakne.
So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.
30 Ne sramote lupeža koji ukrade da nasiti dušu svoju, buduæi gladan;
Men don’t despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry,
31 Nego kad ga uhvate plati samosedmo, da sve imanje doma svojega.
but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.
32 Ali ko uèini preljubu sa ženom, bezuman je, dušu svoju gubi ko tako èini;
He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.
33 Muke i ruga dopada, i sramota se njegova ne može izbrisati.
He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.
34 Jer je ljubavna sumnja žestoka u muža i ne štedi na dan osvete;
For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance.
35 Ne mari ni za kakav otkup, i ne prima ako æeš i mnogo darova davati.
He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
