Then after a lapse of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with [me];

and I went up according to revelation, and I laid before them the glad tidings which I preach among the nations, but privately to those conspicuous [among them], lest in any way I run or had run in vain;
3 tato mama sahacarastiito yadyapi yuunaaniiya aasiit tathaapi tasya tvakchedo. apyaava"syako na babhuuva|
(but neither was Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, compelled to be circumcised; )
4 yata"schalenaagataa asmaan daasaan karttum icchava. h katipayaa bhaaktabhraatara. h khrii. s.tena yii"sunaasmabhya. m datta. m svaatantryam anusandhaatu. m caaraa iva samaaja. m praavi"san|
and [it was] on account of the false brethren brought in surreptitiously, who came in surreptitiously to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage;
5 ata. h prak. rte susa. mvaade yu. smaakam adhikaaro yat ti. s.thet tadartha. m vaya. m da. n.daikamapi yaavad aaj naagraha. nena te. saa. m va"syaa naabhavaama|
to whom we yielded in subjection not even for an hour, that the truth of the glad tidings might remain with you.
6 parantu ye lokaa maanyaaste ye kecid bhaveyustaanaha. m na ga. nayaami yata ii"svara. h kasyaapi maanavasya pak. sapaata. m na karoti, ye ca maanyaaste maa. m kimapi naviina. m naaj naapayan|
But from those who were conspicuous as being somewhat — whatsoever they were, it makes no difference to me: God does not accept man's person; for to me those who were conspicuous communicated nothing;
7 kintu chinnatvacaa. m madhye susa. mvaadapracaara. nasya bhaara. h pitari yathaa samarpitastathaivaacchinnatvacaa. m madhye susa. mvaadapracaara. nasya bhaaro mayi samarpita iti tai rbubudhe|
but, on the contrary, seeing that the glad tidings of the uncircumcision were confided to me, even as to Peter that of the circumcision,
8 yata"schinnatvacaa. m madhye preritatvakarmma. ne yasya yaa "sakti. h pitaramaa"sritavatii tasyaiva saa "sakti rbhinnajaatiiyaanaa. m madhye tasmai karmma. ne maamapyaa"sritavatii|
(for he that wrought in Peter for [the] apostleship of the circumcision wrought also in me towards the Gentiles, )
9 ato mahya.m dattam anugraha.m pratij naaya stambhaa iva ga.nitaa ye yaakuub kaiphaa yohan caite sahaayataasuucaka.m dak.si.nahastagraha.m.na vidhaaya maa.m bar.nabbaa nca jagadu.h, yuvaa.m bhinnajaatiiyaanaa.m sannidhi.m gacchata.m vaya.m chinnatvacaa sannidhi.m gacchaama.h,
and recognising the grace given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were conspicuous as being pillars, gave to me and Barnabas [the] right hands of fellowship, that we [should go] to the nations, and they to the circumcision;

only that we should remember the poor, which same thing also I was diligent to do.
11 aparam aantiyakhiyaanagara. m pitara aagate. aha. m tasya do. sitvaat samak. sa. m tam abhartsaya. m|
But when Peter came to Antioch, I withstood him to [the] face, because he was to be condemned:
12 yata. h sa puurvvam anyajaatiiyai. h saarddham aahaaramakarot tata. h para. m yaakuuba. h samiipaat katipayajane. svaagate. su sa chinnatva"nmanu. syebhyo bhayena niv. rtya p. rthag abhavat|
for before that certain came from James, he ate with [those of] the nations; but when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those of [the] circumcision;
13 tato. apare sarvve yihuudino. api tena saarddha. m kapa. taacaaram akurvvan bar. nabbaa api te. saa. m kaapa. tyena vipathagaamyabhavat|
and the rest of the Jews also played the same dissembling part with him; so that even Barnabas was carried away too by their dissimulation.
14 tataste prak. rtasusa. mvaadaruupe saralapathe na carantiiti d. r.s. tvaaha. m sarvve. saa. m saak. saat pitaram uktavaan tva. m yihuudii san yadi yihuudimata. m vihaaya bhinnajaatiiya ivaacarasi tarhi yihuudimataacara. naaya bhinnajaatiiyaan kuta. h pravarttayasi?
But when I saw that they do not walk straightforwardly, according to the truth of the glad tidings, I said to Peter before all, If thou, being a Jew, livest as the nations and not as the Jews, how dost thou compel the nations to Judaize?
15 aavaa. m janmanaa yihuudinau bhavaavo bhinnajaatiiyau paapinau na bhavaava. h
We, Jews by nature, and not sinners of [the] nations,
16 kintu vyavasthaapaalanena manu. sya. h sapu. nyo na bhavati kevala. m yii"sau khrii. s.te yo vi"svaasastenaiva sapu. nyo bhavatiiti buddhvaavaamapi vyavasthaapaalana. m vinaa kevala. m khrii. s.te vi"svaasena pu. nyapraaptaye khrii. s.te yii"sau vya"svasiva yato vyavasthaapaalanena ko. api maanava. h pu. nya. m praaptu. m na "saknoti|
but knowing that a man is not justified on the principle of works of law [nor] but by the faith of Jesus Christ, we also have believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be justified on the principle of [the] faith of Christ; and not of works of law; because on the principle of works of law no flesh shall be justified.
17 parantu yii"sunaa pu. nyapraaptaye yatamaanaavapyaavaa. m yadi paapinau bhavaavastarhi ki. m vaktavya. m? khrii. s.ta. h paapasya paricaaraka iti? tanna bhavatu|
Now if in seeking to be justified in Christ we also have been found sinners, then [is] Christ minister of sin? Far be the thought.
18 mayaa yad bhagna. m tad yadi mayaa punarnirmmiiyate tarhi mayaivaatmado. sa. h prakaa"syate|
For if the things I have thrown down, these I build again, I constitute myself a transgressor.
19 aha. m yad ii"svaraaya jiivaami tadartha. m vyavasthayaa vyavasthaayai amriye|
For I, through law, have died to law, that I may live to God.
20 khrii. s.tena saarddha. m kru"se hato. asmi tathaapi jiivaami kintvaha. m jiivaamiiti nahi khrii. s.ta eva madanta rjiivati| saamprata. m sa"sariire. na mayaa yajjiivita. m dhaaryyate tat mama dayaakaari. ni madartha. m sviiyapraa. natyaagini ce"svaraputre vi"svasataa mayaa dhaaryyate|
I am crucified with Christ, and no longer live, I, but Christ lives in me; but [in] that I now live in flesh, I live by faith, the [faith] of the Son of God, who has loved me and given himself for me.
21 ahamii"svarasyaanugraha. m naavajaanaami yasmaad vyavasthayaa yadi pu. nya. m bhavati tarhi khrii. s.to nirarthakamamriyata|
I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness [is] by law, then Christ has died for nothing.
