1 ยทา ส ปรฺวฺวตาทฺ อวาโรหตฺ ตทา พหโว มานวาสฺตตฺปศฺจาทฺ ววฺรชุ: ฯ
When Jesus had come down from the hill, great crowds followed him.
2 เอก: กุษฺฐวานฺ อาคตฺย ตํ ปฺรณมฺย พภาเษ, เห ปฺรโภ, ยทิ ภวานฺ สํมนฺยเต, ตรฺหิ มำ นิรามยํ กรฺตฺตุํ ศกฺโนติฯ
He saw a leper who came up, and bowed to the ground before him, and said, ‘Master, if only you are willing, you are able to make me clean.’
3 ตโต ยีศุ: กรํ ปฺรสารฺยฺย ตสฺยางฺคํ สฺปฺฤศนฺ วฺยาชหาร, สมฺมเนฺย'หํ ตฺวํ นิรามโย ภว; เตน ส ตตฺกฺษณาตฺ กุษฺเฐนาโมจิฯ
Stretching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying as he did so, ‘I am willing; become clean.’ Instantly he was made clean from his leprosy;
4 ตโต ยีศุสฺตํ ชคาท, อวเธหิ กถาเมตำ กศฺจิทปิ มา พฺรูหิ, กินฺตุ ยาชกสฺย สนฺนิธึ คตฺวา สฺวาตฺมานํ ทรฺศย มนุเชโภฺย นิชนิรามยตฺวํ ปฺรมาณยิตุํ มูสานิรูปิตํ ทฺรวฺยมฺ อุตฺสฺฤช จฯ
and then Jesus said to him, ‘Be careful not to say a word to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift directed by Moses, as evidence of your cure.’
5 ตทนนฺตรํ ยีศุนา กผรฺนาหูมฺนามนิ นคเร ปฺรวิษฺเฏ กศฺจิตฺ ศตเสนาปติสฺตตฺสมีปมฺ อาคตฺย วินีย พภาเษ,
After Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion in the Roman army came up to him, entreating his help.
6 เห ปฺรโภ, มทีย เอโก ทาส: ปกฺษาฆาตวฺยาธินา ภฺฤศํ วฺยถิต: , สตุ ศยนีย อาเสฺตฯ
‘Sir,’ he said, ‘my manservant is lying ill at my house with a stroke of paralysis, and is suffering terribly.’
7 ตทานีํ ยีศุสฺตไสฺม กถิตวานฺ, อหํ คตฺวา ตํ นิรามยํ กริษฺยามิฯ
‘I will come and cure him,’ answered Jesus.
8 ตต: ส ศตเสนาปติ: ปฺรตฺยวทตฺ, เห ปฺรโภ, ภวานฺ ยตฺ มม เคหมธฺยํ ยาติ ตโทฺยคฺยภาชนํ นาหมสฺมิ; วางฺมาตฺรมฺ อาทิศตุ, เตไนว มม ทาโส นิรามโย ภวิษฺยติฯ
‘Sir,’ the centurion went on, ‘I am unworthy to receive you under my roof; but only speak, and my manservant will be cured.
9 ยโต มยิ ปรนิทฺเหฺน'ปิ มม นิเทศวศฺยา: กติ กติ เสนา: สนฺติ, ตต เอกสฺมินฺ ยาหีตฺยุกฺเต ส ยาติ, ตทนฺยสฺมินฺ เอหีตฺยุกฺเต ส อายาติ, ตถา มม นิชทาเส กรฺมฺไมตตฺ กุรฺวฺวิตฺยุกฺเต ส ตตฺ กโรติฯ
For I myself am a man under the orders of others, with soldiers under me; and, if I say to one of them “Go,” he goes, and to another “Come,” he comes, and to my slave “Do this,” he does it.’
10 ตทานีํ ยีศุสฺตไสฺยตตฺ วโจ นิศมฺย วิสฺมยาปนฺโน'ภูตฺ; นิชปศฺจาทฺคามิโน มานวานฺ อโวจฺจ, ยุษฺมานฺ ตถฺยํ วจฺมิ, อิสฺราเยลียโลกานำ มเธฺย'ปิ ไนตาทฺฤโศ วิศฺวาโส มยา ปฺราปฺต: ฯ
Jesus was surprised to hear this, and said to those who were following him, ‘Never I tell you, in any Israelite have I met with such faith as this!
11 อนฺยจฺจาหํ ยุษฺมานฺ วทามิ, พหว: ปูรฺวฺวสฺยา: ปศฺจิมายาศฺจ ทิศ อาคตฺย อิพฺราหีมา อิสฺหากา ยากูพา จ สากมฺ มิลิตฺวา สมุปเวกฺษฺยนฺติ;
Yes, and many will come in from East and West and take their places beside Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven;
12 กินฺตุ ยตฺร สฺถาเน โรทนทนฺตฆรฺษเณ ภวตสฺตสฺมินฺ พหิรฺภูตตมิเสฺร ราชฺยสฺย สนฺตานา นิกฺเษสฺยนฺเตฯ
while the heirs to the kingdom will be banished into the darkness outside; there, there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.’
13 ตต: ปรํ ยีศุสฺตํ ศตเสนาปตึ ชคาท, ยาหิ, ตว ปฺรตีตฺยนุสารโต มงฺคลํ ภูยาตฺ; ตทา ตสฺมินฺเนว ทณฺเฑ ตทียทาโส นิรามโย พภูวฯ
Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go now, and it will be according to your faith.’ And the man was cured that very hour.
14 อนนฺตรํ ยีศุ: ปิตรสฺย เคหมุปสฺถาย ชฺวเรณ ปีฑิตำ ศยนียสฺถิตำ ตสฺย ศฺวศฺรูํ วีกฺษาญฺจเกฺรฯ
When Jesus went into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law prostrated with fever.
15 ตตเสฺตน ตสฺยา: กรสฺย สฺปฺฤษฺฏตวาตฺ ชฺวรสฺตำ ตตฺยาช, ตทา สา สมุตฺถาย ตานฺ สิเษเวฯ
On his taking her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and began to take care of him.
16 อนนฺตรํ สนฺธฺยายำ สตฺยำ พหุโศ ภูตคฺรสฺตมนุชานฺ ตสฺย สมีปมฺ อานินฺยุ: ส จ วาเกฺยน ภูตานฺ ตฺยาชยามาส, สรฺวฺวปฺรการปีฑิตชนำศฺจ นิรามยานฺ จการ;
In the evening the people brought to Jesus many who were possessed by demons; and he drove out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were ill,
17 ตสฺมาตฺ, สรฺวฺวา ทุรฺพฺพลตาสฺมากํ เตไนว ปริธาริตาฯ อสฺมากํ สกลํ วฺยาธึ เสอว สํคฺฤหีตวานฺฯ ยเทตทฺวจนํ ยิศยิยภวิษฺยทฺวาทิโนกฺตมาสีตฺ, ตตฺตทา สผลมภวตฺฯ
in fulfilment of these words in the prophet Isaiah – “He took our infirmities on himself, and bore the burden of our diseases.”
18 อนนฺตรํ ยีศุศฺจตุรฺทิกฺษุ ชนนิวหํ วิโลกฺย ตฏินฺยา: ปารํ ยาตุํ ศิษฺยานฺ อาทิเทศฯ
Seeing a crowd round him, Jesus gave orders to go across.
19 ตทานีมฺ เอก อุปาธฺยาย อาคตฺย กถิตวานฺ, เห คุโร, ภวานฺ ยตฺร ยาสฺยติ ตตฺราหมปิ ภวต: ปศฺจาทฺ ยาสฺยามิฯ
A teacher of the Law came up to him, and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’
20 ตโต ยีศุ รฺชคาท, โกฺรษฺฏุ: สฺถาตุํ สฺถานํ วิทฺยเต, วิหายโส วิหงฺคมานำ นีฑานิ จ สนฺติ; กินฺตุ มนุษฺยปุตฺรสฺย ศิร: สฺถาปยิตุํ สฺถานํ น วิทฺยเตฯ
‘Foxes have holes,’ answered Jesus, ‘and wild birds their nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
21 อนนฺตรมฺ อปร เอก: ศิษฺยสฺตํ พภาเษ, เห ปฺรโภ, ปฺรถมโต มม ปิตรํ ศฺมศาเน นิธาตุํ คมนารฺถํ มามฺ อนุมนฺยสฺวฯ
‘Master,’ said another, who was a disciple, ‘let me first go and bury my father.’
22 ตโต ยีศุรุกฺตวานฺ มฺฤตา มฺฤตานฺ ศฺมศาเน นิทธตุ, ตฺวํ มม ปศฺจาทฺ อาคจฺฉฯ
But Jesus answered, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’
23 อนนฺตรํ ตสฺมินฺ นาวมารูเฒ ตสฺย ศิษฺยาสฺตตฺปศฺจาตฺ ชคฺมุ: ฯ
Then he got into the boat, followed by his disciples.
24 ปศฺจาตฺ สาครสฺย มธฺยํ เตษุ คเตษุ ตาทฺฤศ: ปฺรพโล ฌญฺภฺศนิล อุทติษฺฐตฺ, เยน มหาตรงฺค อุตฺถาย ตรณึ ฉาทิตวานฺ, กินฺตุ ส นิทฺริต อาสีตฺฯ
Suddenly so great a storm came up on the sea, that the waves broke right over the boat. But Jesus was asleep;
25 ตทา ศิษฺยา อาคตฺย ตสฺย นิทฺราภงฺคํ กฺฤตฺวา กถยามาสุ: , เห ปฺรโภ, วยํ มฺริยามเห, ภวานฺ อสฺมากํ ปฺราณานฺ รกฺษตุฯ
and the disciples came and roused him. ‘Master,’ they cried, ‘save us; we are lost!’
26 ตทา ส ตานฺ อุกฺตวานฺ, เห อลฺปวิศฺวาสิโน ยูยํ กุโต วิภีถ? ตต: ส อุตฺถาย วาตํ สาครญฺจ ตรฺชยามาส, ตโต นิรฺวฺวาตมภวตฺฯ
‘Why are you so timid?’ he said. ‘You of little faith!’ Then Jesus rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and a great calm followed.
27 อปรํ มนุชา วิสฺมยํ วิโลกฺย กถยามาสุ: , อโห วาตสริตฺปตี อสฺย กิมาชฺญาคฺราหิเณา? กีทฺฤโศ'ยํ มานว: ฯ
The men were amazed, and exclaimed, ‘What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!’
28 อนนฺตรํ ส ปารํ คตฺวา คิเทรียเทศมฺ อุปสฺถิตวานฺ; ตทา เทฺวา ภูตคฺรสฺตมนุเชา ศฺมศานสฺถานาทฺ พหิ รฺภูตฺวา ตํ สากฺษาตฺ กฺฤตวนฺเตา, ตาเวตาทฺฤเศา ปฺรจณฺฑาวาสฺตำ ยตฺ เตน สฺถาเนน โกปิ ยาตุํ นาศกฺโนตฺฯ
On getting to the other side – the region of the Gadarenes – Jesus met two men who were possessed by demons, coming out of the tombs. They were so violent that no one was able to pass that way.
29 ตาวุไจ: กถยามาสตุ: , เห อีศฺวรสฺย สูโน ยีโศ, ตฺวยา สากมฺ อาวโย: ก: สมฺพนฺธ: ? นิรูปิตกาลาตฺ ปฺราเคว กิมาวาภฺยำ ยาตนำ ทาตุมฺ อตฺราคโตสิ?
Suddenly they shrieked out, ‘What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before our time?’
30 ตทานีํ ตาภฺยำ กิญฺจิทฺ ทูเร วราหาณามฺ เอโก มหาวฺรโช'จรตฺฯ
A long way off, there was a herd of many pigs, feeding;
31 ตโต ภูเตา เตา ตสฺยานฺติเก วินีย กถยามาสตุ: , ยทฺยาวำ ตฺยาชยสิ, ตรฺหิ วราหาณำ มเธฺยวฺรชมฺ อาวำ เปฺรรยฯ
and the foul spirits began begging Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’
32 ตทา ยีศุรวทตฺ ยาตํ, อนนฺตรํ เตา ยทา มนุเชา วิหาย วราหานฺ อาศฺริตวนฺเตา, ตทา เต สรฺเวฺว วราหา อุจฺจสฺถานาตฺ มหาชเวน ธาวนฺต: สาครียโตเย มชฺชนฺโต มมฺรุ: ฯ
‘Go,’ he said. The spirits came out, and entered the pigs; and the whole herd rushed down the steep slope into the sea, and died in the water.
33 ตโต วราหรกฺษกา: ปลายมานา มเธฺยนครํ เตา ภูตคฺรเสฺตา ปฺรติ ยทฺยทฺ อฆฏต, ตา: สรฺวฺววารฺตฺตา อวทนฺฯ
At this the men who tended them ran away and went to the town, carrying the news of all that had occurred, and of what had happened to the possessed men.
34 ตโต นาคริกา: สรฺเวฺว มนุชา ยีศุํ สากฺษาตฺ กรฺตฺตุํ พหิรายาตา: ตญฺจ วิโลกฺย ปฺรารฺถยาญฺจกฺริเร ภวานฺ อสฺมากํ สีมาโต ยาตุฯ
At the news the whole town went out to meet Jesus, and, when they saw him, they entreated him to go away from their region.
