1 yathārthasyōpadēśasya vākyāni tvayā kathyantāṁ
But say the things which fit sound doctrine,
2 viśēṣataḥ prācīnalōkā yathā prabuddhā dhīrā vinītā viśvāsē prēmni sahiṣṇutāyāñca svasthā bhavēyustadvat
that older men should be sober-minded, worthy of respect, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in patience:
3 prācīnayōṣitō'pi yathā dharmmayōgyam ācāraṁ kuryyuḥ paranindakā bahumadyapānasya nighnāśca na bhavēyuḥ
and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;
4 kintu suśikṣākāriṇyaḥ satya īśvarasya vākyaṁ yat na nindyēta tadarthaṁ yuvatīḥ suśīlatām arthataḥ patisnēham apatyasnēhaṁ
that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 vinītiṁ śucitvaṁ gr̥hiṇītvaṁ saujanyaṁ svāminighnañcādiśēyustathā tvayā kathyatāṁ|
to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and being subject to their own husbands, so that God's word may not be discredited.
6 tadvad yūnō'pi vinītayē prabōdhaya|
Likewise, exhort the younger men to be self-controlled;
7 tvañca sarvvaviṣayē svaṁ satkarmmaṇāṁ dr̥ṣṭāntaṁ darśaya śikṣāyāñcāvikr̥tatvaṁ dhīratāṁ yathārthaṁ
in all things showing yourself an example of good works. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness,
8 nirddōṣañca vākyaṁ prakāśaya tēna vipakṣō yuṣmākam apavādasya kimapi chidraṁ na prāpya trapiṣyatē|
and a sound message that cannot be condemned; that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.
9 dāsāśca yat svaprabhūnāṁ nighnāḥ sarvvaviṣayē tuṣṭijanakāśca bhavēyuḥ pratyuttaraṁ na kuryyuḥ
Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing in all things; not contradicting;
10 kimapi nāpaharēyuḥ kintu pūrṇāṁ suviśvastatāṁ prakāśayēyuriti tān ādiśa| yata ēvamprakārēṇāsmakaṁ trāturīśvarasya śikṣā sarvvaviṣayē tai rbhūṣitavyā|
not stealing, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God, our Savior, in all things.
11 yatō hētōstrāṇājanaka īśvarasyānugrahaḥ sarvvān mānavān pratyuditavān
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people,
12 sa cāsmān idaṁ śikṣyati yad vayam adharmmaṁ sāṁsārikābhilāṣāṁścānaṅgīkr̥tya vinītatvēna nyāyēnēśvarabhaktyā cēhalōkē āyu ryāpayāmaḥ, (aiōn g165)
instructing us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age; (aiōn g165)
13 paramasukhasyāśām arthatō 'smākaṁ mahata īśvarasya trāṇakarttu ryīśukhrīṣṭasya prabhāvasyōdayaṁ pratīkṣāmahē|
looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus (the) Messiah;
14 yataḥ sa yathāsmān sarvvasmād adharmmāt mōcayitvā nijādhikārasvarūpaṁ satkarmmasūtsukam ēkaṁ prajāvargaṁ pāvayēt tadartham asmākaṁ kr̥tē ātmadānaṁ kr̥tavān|
who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.
15 ētāni bhāṣasva pūrṇasāmarthyēna cādiśa prabōdhaya ca, kō'pi tvāṁ nāvamanyatāṁ|
Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one despise you.
