1 īśvaraputrasya yīśukhrīṣṭasya susaṁvādārambhaḥ|
The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 bhaviṣyadvādināṁ granthēṣu lipiritthamāstē, paśya svakīyadūtantu tavāgrē prēṣayāmyaham| gatvā tvadīyapanthānaṁ sa hi pariṣkariṣyati|
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "Look, I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.
3 "paramēśasya panthānaṁ pariṣkuruta sarvvataḥ| tasya rājapathañcaiva samānaṁ kurutādhunā|" ityētat prāntarē vākyaṁ vadataḥ kasyacidravaḥ||
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'"
4 saēva yōhan prāntarē majjitavān tathā pāpamārjananimittaṁ manōvyāvarttakamajjanasya kathāñca pracāritavān|
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.
5 tatō yihūdādēśayirūśālamnagaranivāsinaḥ sarvvē lōkā bahi rbhūtvā tasya samīpamāgatya svāni svāni pāpānyaṅgīkr̥tya yarddananadyāṁ tēna majjitā babhūvuḥ|
And all the country of Judea went out to him and all those from Jerusalem, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.
6 asya yōhanaḥ paridhēyāni kramēlakalōmajāni, tasya kaṭibandhanaṁ carmmajātam, tasya bhakṣyāṇi ca śūkakīṭā vanyamadhūni cāsan|
And John was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey.
7 sa pracārayan kathayāñcakrē, ahaṁ namrībhūya yasya pādukābandhanaṁ mōcayitumapi na yōgyōsmi, tādr̥śō mattō gurutara ēkaḥ puruṣō matpaścādāgacchati|
And he preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.
8 ahaṁ yuṣmān jalē majjitavān kintu sa pavitra ātmāni saṁmajjayiṣyati|
I baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit."
9 aparañca tasminnēva kālē gālīlpradēśasya nāsaradgrāmād yīśurāgatya yōhanā yarddananadyāṁ majjitō'bhūt|
And it happened in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10 sa jalādutthitamātrō mēghadvāraṁ muktaṁ kapōtavat svasyōpari avarōhantamātmānañca dr̥ṣṭavān|
Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting, and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
11 tvaṁ mama priyaḥ putrastvayyēva mamamahāsantōṣa iyamākāśīyā vāṇī babhūva|
And a voice came out of the sky, "You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased."
12 tasmin kālē ātmā taṁ prāntaramadhyaṁ nināya|
And immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness.
13 atha sa catvāriṁśaddināni tasmin sthānē vanyapaśubhiḥ saha tiṣṭhan śaitānā parīkṣitaḥ; paścāt svargīyadūtāstaṁ siṣēvirē|
He was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels were serving him.
14 anantaraṁ yōhani bandhanālayē baddhē sati yīśu rgālīlpradēśamāgatya īśvararājyasya susaṁvādaṁ pracārayan kathayāmāsa,
Now after John was taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of God,
15 kālaḥ sampūrṇa īśvararājyañca samīpamāgataṁ; atōhētō ryūyaṁ manāṁsi vyāvarttayadhvaṁ susaṁvādē ca viśvāsita|
and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is near. Repent, and believe in the Good News."
16 tadanantaraṁ sa gālīlīyasamudrasya tīrē gacchan śimōn tasya bhrātā andriyanāmā ca imau dvau janau matsyadhāriṇau sāgaramadhyē jālaṁ prakṣipantau dr̥ṣṭvā tāvavadat,
And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
17 yuvāṁ mama paścādāgacchataṁ, yuvāmahaṁ manuṣyadhāriṇau kariṣyāmi|
Jesus said to them, "Come, follow me, and I will make you into fishers of people."
18 tatastau tatkṣaṇamēva jālāni parityajya tasya paścāt jagmatuḥ|
And immediately they left the nets, and followed him.
19 tataḥ paraṁ tatsthānāt kiñcid dūraṁ gatvā sa sivadīputrayākūb tadbhrātr̥yōhan ca imau naukāyāṁ jālānāṁ jīrṇamuddhārayantau dr̥ṣṭvā tāvāhūyat|
And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.
20 tatastau naukāyāṁ vētanabhugbhiḥ sahitaṁ svapitaraṁ vihāya tatpaścādīyatuḥ|
And immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.
21 tataḥ paraṁ kapharnāhūmnāmakaṁ nagaramupasthāya sa viśrāmadivasē bhajanagrahaṁ praviśya samupadidēśa|
And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.
22 tasyōpadēśāllōkā āścaryyaṁ mēnirē yataḥ sōdhyāpakāiva nōpadiśan prabhāvavāniva prōpadidēśa|
And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
23 aparañca tasmin bhajanagr̥hē apavitrabhūtēna grasta ēkō mānuṣa āsīt| sa cītśabdaṁ kr̥tvā kathayāñcakē
And just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,
24 bhō nāsaratīya yīśō tvamasmān tyaja, tvayā sahāsmākaṁ kaḥ sambandhaḥ? tvaṁ kimasmān nāśayituṁ samāgataḥ? tvamīśvarasya pavitralōka ityahaṁ jānāmi|
saying, "What do we have to do with you, Jesus, Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God."
25 tadā yīśustaṁ tarjayitvā jagāda tūṣṇīṁ bhava itō bahirbhava ca|
And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him."
26 tataḥ sō'pavitrabhūtastaṁ sampīḍya atyucaiścītkr̥tya nirjagāma|
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
27 tēnaiva sarvvē camatkr̥tya parasparaṁ kathayāñcakrirē, ahō kimidaṁ? kīdr̥śō'yaṁ navya upadēśaḥ? anēna prabhāvēnāpavitrabhūtēṣvājñāpitēṣu tē tadājñānuvarttinō bhavanti|
And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him."
28 tadā tasya yaśō gālīlaścaturdiksthasarvvadēśān vyāpnōt|
And at once the news of him went out everywhere into all the region of Galilee and its surrounding area.
29 aparañca tē bhajanagr̥hād bahi rbhūtvā yākūbyōhanbhyāṁ saha śimōna āndriyasya ca nivēśanaṁ praviviśuḥ|
And Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30 tadā pitarasya śvaśrūrjvarapīḍitā śayyāyāmāsta iti tē taṁ jhaṭiti vijñāpayāñcakruḥ|
Now Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.
31 tataḥ sa āgatya tasyā hastaṁ dhr̥tvā tāmudasthāpayat; tadaiva tāṁ jvarō'tyākṣīt tataḥ paraṁ sā tān siṣēvē|
And he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.
32 athāstaṁ gatē ravau sandhyākālē sati lōkāstatsamīpaṁ sarvvān rōgiṇō bhūtadhr̥tāṁśca samāninyuḥ|
At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick, and those who were possessed by demons.
33 sarvvē nāgarikā lōkā dvāri saṁmilitāśca|
And all the city was gathered together at the door.
34 tataḥ sa nānāvidharōgiṇō bahūn manujānarōgiṇaścakāra tathā bahūn bhūtān tyājayāñcakāra tān bhūtān kimapi vākyaṁ vaktuṁ niṣiṣēdha ca yatōhētōstē tamajānan|
And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.
35 aparañca sō'tipratyūṣē vastutastu rātriśēṣē samutthāya bahirbhūya nirjanaṁ sthānaṁ gatvā tatra prārthayāñcakrē|
And early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.
36 anantaraṁ śimōn tatsaṅginaśca tasya paścād gatavantaḥ|
And Simon and those who were with him followed after him;
37 taduddēśaṁ prāpya tamavadan sarvvē lōkāstvāṁ mr̥gayantē|
and they found him, and told him, "Everyone is looking for you."
38 tadā sō'kathayat āgacchata vayaṁ samīpasthāni nagarāṇi yāmaḥ, yatō'haṁ tatra kathāṁ pracārayituṁ bahirāgamam|
And he said to them, "Let us go somewhere else into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason."
39 atha sa tēṣāṁ gālīlpradēśasya sarvvēṣu bhajanagr̥hēṣu kathāḥ pracārayāñcakrē bhūtānatyājayañca|
And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.
40 anantaramēkaḥ kuṣṭhī samāgatya tatsammukhē jānupātaṁ vinayañca kr̥tvā kathitavān yadi bhavān icchati tarhi māṁ pariṣkarttuṁ śaknōti|
And a leper came to him, begging him, and knelt down and said to him, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."
41 tataḥ kr̥pālu ryīśuḥ karau prasāryya taṁ spaṣṭvā kathayāmāsa
And being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing. Be cleansed."
42 mamēcchā vidyatē tvaṁ pariṣkr̥tō bhava| ētatkathāyāḥ kathanamātrāt sa kuṣṭhī rōgānmuktaḥ pariṣkr̥tō'bhavat|
And immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.
43 tadā sa taṁ visr̥jan gāḍhamādiśya jagāda
And he strictly warned him, and immediately sent him out,
44 sāvadhānō bhava kathāmimāṁ kamapi mā vada; svātmānaṁ yājakaṁ darśaya, lōkēbhyaḥ svapariṣkr̥tēḥ pramāṇadānāya mūsānirṇītaṁ yaddānaṁ tadutsr̥jasva ca|
and said to him, "See you say nothing to anyone, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."
45 kintu sa gatvā tat karmma itthaṁ vistāryya pracārayituṁ prārēbhē tēnaiva yīśuḥ punaḥ saprakāśaṁ nagaraṁ pravēṣṭuṁ nāśaknōt tatōhētōrbahiḥ kānanasthānē tasyau; tathāpi caturddigbhyō lōkāstasya samīpamāyayuḥ|
But he went out, and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere.
