Ester 9

1 Agora no décimo segundo mês, que é o mês de Adar, no décimo terceiro dia do mês, quando o mandamento do rei e seu decreto se aproximavam para serem executados, no dia em que os inimigos dos judeus esperavam conquistá-los (mas aconteceu o contrário, os judeus conquistaram aqueles que os odiavam),

Now in the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day, when the king's law and decree were about to be carried out, on the day when the enemies of the Jews hoped to gain power over them, it was reversed. The Jews gained power over those who hated them.

2 os judeus se reuniram em suas cidades em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, para colocar as mãos sobre aqueles que os queriam prejudicar. Ninguém podia resistir a eles, porque o medo deles havia caído sobre todo o povo.

The Jews assembled in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, to lay hands on those who tried to bring disaster on them. No one could stand against them, for the fear of them had fallen on all the peoples.

3 Todos os príncipes das províncias, os governadores locais, os governadores e aqueles que faziam os negócios do rei ajudaram os judeus, porque o medo de Mordecai havia caído sobre eles.

All the officials of the provinces, the provincial governors, the governors, and the king's administrators, helped the Jews because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.

4 Pois Mordecai era grande na casa do rei, e sua fama se espalhou por todas as províncias, pois o homem Mordecai foi crescendo cada vez mais.

For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame spread throughout all the provinces, for the man Mordecai was becoming great.

5 Os judeus atingiram todos os seus inimigos com o golpe da espada, e com a matança e destruição, e fizeram o que queriam para aqueles que os odiavam.

The Jews attacked their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying them, and did as they pleased to those who hated them.

6 Na cidadela de Susa, os judeus mataram e destruíram quinhentos homens.

In the fortress of Susa itself the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.

7 They matou Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

8 Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,

10 os dez filhos de Haman, o filho de Hammedatha, o inimigo dos judeus, mas eles não colocaram a mão no saque.

and the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews. But they did not take any plunder.

11 Naquele dia, o número daqueles que foram mortos na cidadela de Susa foi levado perante o rei.

That day the number of those killed in the fortress of Susa, was reported to the king.

12 O rei disse a Ester, a rainha: “Os judeus mataram e destruíram quinhentos homens na cidadela de Susa, incluindo os dez filhos de Haman; o que então fizeram no resto das províncias do rei! Agora, qual é a sua petição? Ela lhe será concedida. Qual é o seu outro pedido? Será feito”.

The king said to Queen Esther, “The Jews have killed five hundred men in the fortress of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman. What then have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? Now what is your petition? It will be granted you. What is your request? It will be granted to you.”

13 Então Esther disse: “Se agradar ao rei, que seja concedido aos judeus que estão em Susa para fazer amanhã também de acordo com o decreto de hoje, e que os dez filhos de Haman sejam enforcados na forca”.

Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let the Jews who are in Susa be permitted to carry out this day's decree tomorrow also, and let the bodies of Haman's ten sons be hanged on gallows.”

14 O rei ordenou que isto fosse feito. Foi emitido um decreto em Susa; e enforcaram os dez filhos de Haman.

So the king commanded that this be done. A decree was issued in Susa, and they hanged the ten sons of Haman.

15 Os judeus que estavam em Susa se reuniram no décimo quarto dia também do mês de Adar, e mataram trezentos homens em Susa; mas eles não colocaram a mão sobre o saque.

The Jews who were in Susa came together on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and killed three hundred more men in Susa, but laid no hands on the plunder.

16 Os outros judeus que estavam nas províncias do rei se reuniram, defenderam suas vidas, tiveram descanso de seus inimigos e mataram setenta e cinco mil dos que os odiavam; mas eles não colocaram a mão no saque.

The rest of the Jews who were in the king's provinces came together to defend their lives, and they got relief from their enemies and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them, but they did not lay their hands on the valuables of those they killed.

17 Isto foi feito no décimo terceiro dia do mês Adar; e no décimo quarto dia daquele mês eles descansaram e fizeram dele um dia de banquete e alegria.

This happened on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar. On the fourteenth day they rested and made that a day of feasting and gladness.

18 Mas os judeus que estavam em Susa se reuniram no dia 13 e no dia 14 do mês; e no dia 15 desse mês, descansaram, e fizeram dele um dia de festa e alegria.

But the Jews who were in Susa assembled together on the thirteenth and the fourteenth days. On the fifteenth day they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

19 Portanto, os judeus das aldeias, que vivem nas cidades não muradas, fazem do décimo quarto dia do mês Adar um dia de alegria e banquete, um feriado e um dia de envio de presentes de comida uns aos outros.

That is why the Jews of the villages, who make their homes in the rural towns, observe the fourteenth day of the month of Adar as a day of gladness and feasting, and as a day on which they send gifts of food to one another.

20 Mordecai escreveu estas coisas, e enviou cartas a todos os judeus que estavam em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, tanto de perto como de longe,

Mordecai recorded these things and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far,

21 para ordenar-lhes que guardassem o décimo quarto e décimo quinto dias do mês Adar anualmente,

obligating them to keep the fourteenth and the fifteenth day of Adar every year.

22 como os dias em que os judeus tiveram descanso de seus inimigos, e o mês que se transformou para eles de tristeza em alegria, e de luto em feriado; que eles deveriam fazer deles dias de festa e alegria, e de enviar presentes de comida uns para os outros, e presentes para os necessitados.

These were the days when the Jews got relief from their enemies, and the month when their sorrow turned to joy, and mourning into a day of celebration. They were to make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending gifts of food to one another, and gifts to the poor.

23 Os judeus aceitaram o costume que haviam iniciado, como Mordecai lhes havia escrito,

So the Jews continued the celebration they had begun, doing what Mordecai had written to them.

24 porque Haman, filho de Hammedatha, o agagita, inimigo de todos os judeus, havia conspirado contra os judeus para destruí-los, e havia lançado “Pur”, isto é, a sorte, para consumi-los e destruí-los;

At that time Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and he threw Pur (that is, he threw lots), to crush and destroy them.

25 mas quando isto ficou conhecido do rei, ele ordenou por cartas que seu plano perverso, que havia planejado contra os judeus, voltasse sobre sua própria cabeça, e que ele e seus filhos fossem enforcados na forca.

But when the matter came before the king, he gave orders by letters that the wicked plan Haman developed against the Jews should come back on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

26 Por isso eles chamavam esses dias de “Purim”, a partir da palavra “Pur”. Portanto, por causa de todas as palavras desta carta, e daquilo que tinham visto a respeito deste assunto, e daquilo que lhes tinha chegado,

Therefore they called these days Purim, after the name of Pur. Because of everything that was written in this letter, and everything that they had seen and that had happened to them,

27 os judeus estabeleceram e impuseram a si mesmos, a seus descendentes, e a todos aqueles que se uniram a eles, para que não deixassem de guardar estes dois dias de acordo com o que estava escrito e de acordo com seu tempo designado a cada ano;

the Jews accepted a new custom and duty. This custom would be for themselves, their descendants, and everyone who joined them. It would be that they would celebrate these two days every year. They would celebrate them in a certain way and at the same time each year.

28 e que esses dias deveriam ser lembrados e guardados através de cada geração, cada família, cada província e cada cidade; e que esses dias de Purim não deveriam falhar entre os judeus, nem sua memória pereceria de seus descendentes.

These days were to be celebrated and observed in every generation, every family, every province, and every city. These Jews and their descendants would never cease to faithfully observe these days of Purim, so that they should never forget them.

29 Então Esther, a rainha, filha de Abihail, e Mordecai, o judeu, escreveram com toda autoridade para confirmar esta segunda carta de Purim.

Queen Esther daughter of Abihail and Mordecai the Jew wrote with full authority and confirmed this second letter about Purim.

30 Ele enviou cartas a todos os judeus das cento e vinte e sete províncias do reino de Assuero com palavras de paz e verdade,

Letters were sent to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, wishing the Jews safety and truth.

31 para confirmar esses dias de Purim em seus tempos determinados, como Mordecai, o judeu, e Ester, a rainha, haviam decretado, e como eles haviam imposto a si mesmos e a seus descendentes na questão dos jejuns e de seu luto.

These letters confirmed the days of Purim at their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther obligated the Jews. The Jews accepted this obligation for themselves and their descendants, just as also they accepted times of fasting and lamenting.

32 O mandamento de Ester confirmou estas questões de Purim; e foi escrito no livro.

The command of Esther confirmed these regulations regarding Purim, and it was written in the book.
