Eclesiastes 2
1 Eu disse em meu coração: “Vem agora, eu te testarei com alegria; portanto, desfruta do prazer”; e eis que isto também era vaidade.
I said in my heart, Come now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and behold, this also [is] vanity.
2 Eu disse de riso: “É loucura”; e de alegria: “O que ela realiza?”.
I said of laughter, [It is] mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?
3 Procurei em meu coração como alegrar minha carne com vinho, meu coração ainda me guiando com sabedoria, e como me agarrar à loucura, até ver o que era bom para os filhos dos homens que eles fizessem debaixo do céu todos os dias de suas vidas.
I sought in my heart, to give myself to wine, yet acquainting my heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what [was] that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.
4 I me fez grandes obras. Eu mesmo construí casas. Plantei vinhedos para mim mesmo.
I made me great works; I built me houses; I planted me vineyards:
5 I me fiz jardins e parques, e plantei neles árvores de todos os tipos de frutas.
I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all [kind of] fruits:
6 Fiz-me piscinas de água, para regar a floresta onde as árvores eram cultivadas.
I made me pools of water, to water with them the wood that bringeth forth trees:
7 Comprei servos e servas, e tive servos nascidos em minha casa. Tinha também grandes posses de rebanhos e rebanhos, sobretudo os que estavam antes de mim em Jerusalém.
I procured [me] servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:
8 Também coletei prata e ouro para mim, e o tesouro dos reis e das províncias. Consegui homens e mulheres cantores, e as delícias dos filhos dos homens: instrumentos musicais de todos os tipos.
I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings, and of the provinces: I procured me men-singers and women-singers, and the delights of the sons of men, [as] musical instruments, and of all sorts.
9 Então eu era grande, e aumentei mais do que todos os que estavam antes de mim em Jerusalém. Minha sabedoria também permaneceu comigo.
So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.
10 O que quer que meus olhos desejassem, eu não me afastava deles. Não retive meu coração de nenhuma alegria, pois meu coração se alegrou por causa de todo o meu trabalho, e esta foi minha porção de todo o meu trabalho.
And whatever my eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor: and this was my portion of all my labor.
11 Então olhei para todas as obras que minhas mãos haviam trabalhado, e para o trabalho que eu havia trabalhado para fazer; e eis que tudo era vaidade e uma perseguição ao vento, e não havia lucro sob o sol.
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that I had labored to do: and behold, all [was] vanity and vexation of spirit, and [there was] no profit under the sun.
12 Eu me voltei para considerar sabedoria, loucura e loucura; pois o que pode fazer o sucessor do rei? Apenas o que já foi feito há muito tempo.
And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what [can] the man [do] that cometh after the king? [even] that which hath been already done.
13 Então vi que a sabedoria excede a insensatez, na medida em que a luz excede as trevas.
Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
14 Os olhos do sábio estão em sua cabeça, e o tolo caminha nas trevas - e ainda assim percebi que um acontecimento acontece com todos eles.
The wise man's eyes [are] in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.
15 Então eu disse em meu coração: “Assim como acontece com o tolo, assim também acontecerá comigo; e por que eu era então mais sábio”. Então eu disse em meu coração que isso também é vaidade.
Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also [is] vanity.
16 Para o sábio, mesmo como para o tolo, não há memória para sempre, pois nos dias vindouros tudo terá sido esquecido por muito tempo. De fato, o homem sábio deve morrer como o tolo!
For [there is] no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now [is] in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise [man]? as the fool.
17 Então eu odiava a vida, porque o trabalho que é trabalhado sob o sol era doloroso para mim; pois tudo é vaidade e uma perseguição ao vento.
Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun [is] grievous to me: for all [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
18 Eu odiava todo o meu trabalho no qual eu trabalhava sob o sol, porque devo deixá-lo para o homem que vem depois de mim.
Yes, I hated all my labor which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me.
19 Quem sabe se ele será um homem sábio ou um tolo? No entanto, ele terá domínio sobre todo o meu trabalho no qual eu trabalhei e no qual me mostrei sábio sob o sol. Isto também é vaidade.
And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise [man] or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This [is] also vanity.
20 Therefore Comecei a desesperar meu coração em relação a todo o trabalho no qual eu havia trabalhado sob o sol.
Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labor which I took under the sun.
21 Pois há um homem cujo trabalho é com sabedoria, com conhecimento e com habilidade; no entanto, ele o deixará por sua parte a um homem que não tenha trabalhado por ele. Isto também é vaidade e um grande mal.
For there is a man whose labor is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not labored in it, shall he leave it [for] his portion. This also [is] vanity and a great evil.
22 Pois o que tem um homem de todo seu trabalho e do esforço de seu coração, no qual ele trabalha sob o sol?
For what hath man of all his labor, and of the vexation of his heart, in which he hath labored under the sun?
23 Pois todos os seus dias são dores, e seu trabalho é tristeza; sim, mesmo na noite, seu coração não descansa. Isto também é vaidade.
For all his days [are] sorrows, and his labor grief; yes, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
24 Não há nada melhor para um homem do que comer e beber, e fazer com que sua alma desfrute do bem em seu trabalho. Isto também eu vi, que é da mão de Deus.
[There is] nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and [that] he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it [was] from the hand of God.
25 Para quem pode comer, ou quem pode ter prazer, mais do que eu?
For who can eat, or who else can hasten [to it] more than I?
26 Pois ao homem que lhe agrada, Deus dá sabedoria, conhecimento e alegria; mas ao pecador dá trabalho, para recolher e amontoar, para dar a quem lhe agrada a Deus. Isto também é vaidade e uma perseguição ao vento.
For [God] giveth to a man who [is] good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth toil, to gather, and to amass, that he may give to [him that is] good before God. This also [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
