2 Crônicas 10
1 Rehoboam foi a Shechem, pois todo Israel tinha vindo a Shechem para torná-lo rei.
And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem had all Israel come to make him king.
2 Quando Jeroboão, filho de Nebat, ouviu falar dele (pois estava no Egito, onde havia fugido da presença do rei Salomão), Jeroboão voltou do Egito.
And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt.
3 Eles o enviaram e o chamaram; e Jeroboão e todo Israel vieram, e falaram com Rehoboam, dizendo:
And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4 “Seu pai fez nosso jugo sofrer. Agora, portanto, faça o doloroso serviço de seu pai e seu pesado jugo que ele nos colocou, mais leve, e nós o serviremos”.
Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
5 Ele disse-lhes: “Voltem a mim depois de três dias”. Assim, o povo partiu.
And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed.
6 O rei Rehoboam aconselhou-se com os anciãos, que tinham estado perante Salomão, seu pai, enquanto ele ainda vivia, dizendo: “Que conselho você me dá sobre como responder a essas pessoas”?
And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
7 Eles falaram com ele, dizendo: “Se você for gentil com essas pessoas, agrade-lhes, e lhes disser boas palavras, então eles serão seus servos para sempre”.
And they spoke to him, saying, If thou wilt be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8 Mas ele abandonou o conselho dos velhos que lhe haviam dado, e se aconselhou com os jovens que haviam crescido com ele, que estavam diante dele.
But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
9 Ele lhes disse: “Que conselho vocês dão, para que possamos dar uma resposta a estas pessoas, que falaram comigo, dizendo: 'Faça o jugo que seu pai nos pôs mais leve'”.
And he said to them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father put upon us?
10 Os jovens que tinham crescido com ele falaram com ele, dizendo: “Assim dirás às pessoas que falaram contigo, dizendo: 'Teu pai fez pesado o nosso jugo, mas torna-o mais leve para nós'; assim lhes dirás: 'Meu dedo mindinho é mais grosso que a cintura de meu pai'.
And the young men that were brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spoke to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s thighs.
11 Agora, enquanto que meu pai lhe pesou com um jugo pesado, eu acrescentarei ao seu jugo. Meu pai te castigou com chicotes, mas eu te castigarei com escorpiões'”.
For though my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12 Então Jeroboão e todo o povo vieram a Rehoboam no terceiro dia, como pediu o rei, dizendo: “Venha até mim novamente no terceiro dia”.
So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king appointed, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
13 O rei lhes respondeu grosseiramente; e o rei Roboão abandonou o conselho dos velhos,
And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
14 e falou com eles após o conselho dos jovens, dizendo: “Meu pai fez pesado o seu jugo, mas eu acrescentarei a ele”. Meu pai vos castigou com chicotes, mas eu vos castigarei com escorpiões”.
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15 Então o rei não deu ouvidos ao povo; pois foi trazido por Deus, para que Javé pudesse estabelecer sua palavra, que ele falou por Ahijah, o xilonita, a Jeroboão, filho de Nebat.
So the king hearkened not to the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 Quando todo Israel viu que o rei não os ouvia, o povo respondeu ao rei, dizendo: “Que porção temos em Davi? Nós não temos uma herança no filho de Jessé! Todos os homens para suas tendas, Israel! Agora cuide da sua própria casa, David”. Assim, todo Israel partiu para suas tendas.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thy own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
17 Mas quanto às crianças de Israel que viviam nas cidades de Judá, Rehoboam reinava sobre elas.
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18 Então o rei Roboão enviou Hadorão, que estava sobre os homens sujeitos a trabalhos forçados; e os filhos de Israel o apedrejaram até a morte com pedras. O rei Roboão apressou-se a subir para sua carruagem, para fugir para Jerusalém.
Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the forced labour; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get into his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 Então Israel se rebelou contra a casa de Davi até os dias de hoje.
And Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
