Romanos 9
1 Digo a verdade em Cristo, não minto, e minha consciência dá testemunho comigo pelo Espírito Santo,
I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost:
2 de que tenho grande tristeza e contínuo tormento em meu coração.
That I have great sadness, and continual sorrow in my heart.
3 Porque desejaria eu mesmo ser separado de Cristo em proveito dos meus irmãos, que são meus parentes segundo a carne;
For I wished myself to be an anathema from Christ, for my brethren, who are my kinsmen according to the flesh,
4 que são israelitas, e a quem pertencem a adoção como filhos, a glória, os pactos, a Lei, o culto, e as promessas;
Who are Israelites, to whom belongeth the adoption as of children, and the glory, and the testament, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises:
5 deles são os patriarcas, e deles, quanto à carne, é Cristo, que é sobre todos, Deus bendito eternamente, Amém! (aiōn g165)
Whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ, according to the flesh, who is over all things, God blessed for ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
6 Não que a palavra de Deus tenha falhado; porque nem todos os que são de Israel são [verdadeiros] israelitas.
Not as though the word of God hath miscarried. For all are not Israelites that are of Israel:
7 Nem por serem descendentes de Abraão são todos filhos, mas: “Em Isaque será chamada a tua descendência”.
Neither are all they that are the seed of Abraham, children; but in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
8 Isto é, não são os filhos da carne que são os filhos de Deus; mas sim os filhos da promessa que são contados como descendência.
That is to say, not they that are the children of the flesh, are the children of God; buy they, that are the children of the promise, are accounted for the seed.
9 Pois esta é a palavra da promessa: Aproximadamente a este tempo virei, e Sara terá um filho.
For this is the word of promise: According to this time will I come; and Sara shall have a son.
10 E não somente isso, mas também Rebeca, quando esteve grávida por intermédio de um só, Isaque, nosso ancestral
And not only she. But when Rebecca also had conceived at once, of Isaac our father.
11 (pois, como não eram ainda nascidos, não haviam feito bem ou mal, para que o propósito de Deus, segundo a escolha, continuasse; não pelas obras, mas por causa daquele que chama),
For when the children were not yet born, nor had done any good or evil (that the purpose of God, according to election, might stand, )
12 foi dito a ela: O mais velho servirá o mais jovem;
Not of works, but of him that calleth, it was said to her: The elder shall serve the younger.
13 como está escrito: “Amei Jacó, mas odiei Esaú”.
As it is written: Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.
14 Que diremos, então? Que há injustiça da parte de Deus? De maneira nenhuma!
What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? God forbid.
15 Pois ele diz a Moisés: “Terei misericórdia de quem eu tiver misericórdia, e me compadecerei de quem eu me compadecer”.
For he saith to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy; and I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy.
16 Portanto, não [depende] daquele que quer, nem daquele que se esforça, mas sim, de Deus, que se compadece.
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
17 Pois a Escritura diz a Faraó: “Para isto mesmo te levantei: para mostrar em ti o meu poder, e para que o meu nome seja anunciado em toda a terra”.
For the scripture saith to Pharao: To this purpose have I raised thee, that I may shew my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
18 Portanto, ele tem misericórdia de quem quer, e endurece a quem quer.
Therefore he hath mercy on whom he will; and whom he will, he hardeneth.
19 Tu, então, me dirás: “Por que ele ainda se queixa? Pois quem resiste à sua vontade?”
Thou wilt say therefore to me: Why doth he then find fault? for who resisteth his will?
20 Mas antes, quem és tu, ó, humano, para questionares a Deus? Por acaso a coisa formada dirá ao que a formou: “Por que me fizeste assim?”
O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?
21 Ou não tem o oleiro poder sobre o barro, para da mesma massa fazer um vaso para honra, e outro para desonra?
Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 E se Deus, querendo mostrar a [sua] ira, e dar a conhecer o seu poder, suportou com muita paciência os vasos da ira, preparados para a perdição,
What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction,
23 a fim de fazer conhecidas as riquezas da sua glória nos vasos da misericórdia, que preparou com antecedência para a glória,
That he might shew the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he hath prepared unto glory?
24 que somos nós, aos quais ele chamou, não somente dentre os judeus, mas também dentre os gentios?
Even us, whom also he hath called, nor only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles.
25 Como também diz em Oseias: “Ao que era Não-Meu-Povo, chamarei de Meu-Povo; e a que não era Não-Amada, [chamarei] de Amada”.
As in Osee he saith: I will call that which was not my people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved; and her that had not obtained mercy, one that hath obtained mercy.
26 E será que, no lugar onde lhes foi dito: “Vós não sois meu povo, Aí serão chamados filhos do Deus vivo”.
And it shall be, in the place where it was said unto them, You are not my people; there they shall be called the sons of the living God.
27 Também Isaías clama acerca de Israel: “Ainda que o número dos filhos de Israel seja como a areia do mar, [apenas] o remanescente será salvo;
And Isaias crieth out concerning Israel: If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved.
28 porque o Senhor concluirá e executará brevemente a sentença sobre a terra”.
For he shall finish his word, and cut it short in justice; because a short word shall the Lord make upon the earth.
29 E como Isaías predisse: “Se o Senhor dos Exércitos não houvesse nos deixado descendência, nós nos teríamos tornado como Sodoma, e como Gomorra teríamos sido semelhantes”.
And as Isaias foretold: Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and we had been like unto Gomorrha.
30 Então, que diremos? Que os gentios, que não buscavam a justiça, alcançaram a justiça, mas a justiça que é pela fé;
What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who followed not after justice, have attained to justice, even the justice that is of faith.
31 porém, Israel, que buscava a Lei da justiça, não alcançou a Lei
But Israel, by following after the law of justice, is not come unto the law of justice.
32 Por quê? Porque não [a buscavam] pela fé, mas sim, como que pelas obras. Tropeçaram na pedra de tropeço,
Why so? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were of works. For they stumbled at the stumblingstone.
33 como está escrito: “Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra de tropeço, e uma rocha que causa queda; e aquele que nela crer não será envergonhado”.
As it is written: Behold I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and a rock of scandal; and whosoever believeth in him shall not be confounded.
