Neemias 4

1 E foi que, quando Sambalate ouviu que nós edificávamos o muro, ele se indignou muito, e escarneceu dos judeus.

Forsothe it was doon, whanne Sanaballath hadde herd, that we bildiden the wal, he was ful wrooth, and he was stirid greetli, and scornede the Jewis.

2 E falou diante de seus irmãos e do exército de Samaria, dizendo: O que fazem estes fracos judeus? Será isso lhes permitido? Farão eles sacrifícios? Acabarão isso algum dia? Ressuscitarão dos amontoados de entulho as pedras que foram queimadas?

And he seide bifor hise britheren, and the multitude of Samaritans, What doen the feble Jewis? Whether hethene men schulen suffre hem? Whether thei schulen fille, and make sacrifice in o dai? Whether thei moun bilde stonys of the heepis of the dust, that ben brent?

3 E com ele estava Tobias, o amonita, que disse: Ainda que edifiquem, contudo, se uma raposa vier, ela [sozinha] será capaz de derrubar seu muro de pedra.

But also Tobie Amanytes, his neiybore, seide, Bilde thei; if a fox stieth, he schal `skippe ouer the stony wal `of hem.

4 Ouve, ó Deus nosso, que somos desprezados, e devolve a humilhação deles sobre suas cabeças; e entrega-os para o despojo, na terra do cativeiro;

And Neemye seide, Oure God, here thou, for we ben maad dispising; turne thou the schenschip on her heed, and yyue thou hem in to dispisyng in the lond of caytifte;

5 E não cubras a perversidade deles, nem o pecado deles seja riscado diante de teu rosto; pois provocaram à ira diante dos construtores.

hile thou not the wickidnesse of hem, and her synnes be not doon awei bifor thi face; for thei scorneden bilderis.

6 Edificamos, pois o muro, e todo o muro foi completado até metade [de] sua [altura]; porque o coração do povo estava disposto a trabalhar.

Therfor we bildiden the wal, and ioyneden togidere al `til to the half part, and the herte of the puple was exitid to worche.

7 E foi que, quando Sambalate e Tobias, e os árabes, os amonitas, e os de Asdode, ouviram que os muros de Jerusalém estavam sendo reparados, que as brechas já começavam a serem fechadas, eles ficaram muito irados.

Forsothe it was doon, whanne Sanaballat `hadde herd, and Tobie, and Arabiens, and Amanytys, and men of Azotus hadden herd, that the brekyng of the wal of Jerusalem was stoppid, and that the crasyngis hadden bigunne to be closid togidere, thei weren ful wrothe.

8 E todos conspiraram entre si para virem guerrear contra Jerusalém, e causarem confusão nela.

And alle weren gaderid togidere to come and fiyte ayens Jerusalem, and to caste tresouns.

9 Porém nós oramos a nosso Deus; e pusemos guarda contra eles, dia e noite, por causa deles.

And we preieden oure Lord God, and we settiden keperis on the wal bi dai and niyt ayens hem.

10 Então Judá disse: As forças dos carregadores se enfraqueceram, e o entulho é muito; e nós não podemos reconstruir o muro.

Forsothe Juda seide, The strengthe of the berere is maad feble, and the erthe is ful myche, and we moun not bilde the wal.

11 Porém nossos inimigos diziam: Eles não saibam, nem vejam, até que entremos em meio deles, e os matemos; assim faremos cessar a obra.

And oure enemyes seiden, Wite thei not, and knowe thei not, til we comen in to the myddil of hem, and sleen hem, and maken the werk to ceesse.

12 E foi que, quando os judeus que habitavam entre eles vieram, dez vezes nos disseram: Por todos os lados para que virardes, [eles estão] contra nós.

Forsothe it was doon, whanne Jewis came, that dwelliden bisidis hem, and seiden to vs `bi ten tymes, fro alle places fro whiche thei camen to vs,

13 Então pus [guardas] nos lugares baixos, atrás do muro, [e] nos lugares altos; e pus ao povo por [suas] famílias com suas espadas, suas lanças, e seus arcos.

Y ordeynede the puple in ordre, with her swerdis, and speris, and bouwis, in a place bihynde the wal bi cumpas.

14 Depois olhei, me levantei, e disse aos nobres, aos oficiais, e aos demais do povo: Não os temais; lembrai-vos do Senhor grande e temível, e lutai por vossos irmãos, por vossos filhos e vossas filhas, por vossas mulheres e vossas casas.

Y bihelde, and roos, and seide to the principal men, and magistratis, and to `the tother part of the comyn puple, Nyle ye drede of her face; haue ye mynde of the greet Lord, and ferdful, and fiyte ye for youre britheren, and youre sones, and youre douytris, for youre wyues, and housis.

15 E foi que, quando nossos inimigos ouviram falar que já sabíamos [de tudo], e que Deus havia frustrado o plano deles, todos voltamos ao muro, cada um à sua obra.

Forsothe it was doon, whanne oure enemyes hadden herd that it was teld to vs, God distriede her counsel; and alle we turneden ayen to the wallis, ech man to his werk.

16 Sucedeu, porém, que desde aquele dia a metade dos meus servos trabalhava na obra, e outra metade deles tinha lanças, escudos, arcos, e couraças; e os líderes estavam por detrás de toda a casa de Judá.

And it was doon fro that dai, the half part of yonge men made werk, and the half part was redi to batel; `and speris, and scheldis, and bouwis, and harburiouns, and princes aftir hem, in al the hows of men of Juda,

17 Os que edificavam o muro, e os que traziam as cargas [e] os que carregavam, com uma mão faziam a obra, e na outra tinham armas.

bildynge in the wal, and berynge birthuns, and puttynge on; with her oon hond thei maden werk, and with the tother thei helden swerd.

18 E cada um dos construtores trazia sua espada cingida a seus lombos, e [assim] edificavam; e o que tocava a trombeta estava junto a mim.

For ech of the bilderis was gird with the swerd on the reynes; and thei bildiden, and sowneden with clariouns bisidis me.

19 E eu disse aos nobres, aos oficiais, e aos demais do povo: A obra é grande e extensa, e nós estamos separados no muro, longe uns dos outros.

And Y seide to the principal men, and magistratis, and to the tothir part of the comyn puple, The werk is greet and brood, and we ben departid fer in the wal, oon from anothir;

20 No lugar onde ouvirdes o som da trombeta, ali vos ajuntareis conosco; nosso Deus lutará por nós.

in what euer place ye heren the sown of the trumpe, renne ye togidere thidur to vs; for oure God schal fiyte for vs.

21 Assim trabalhávamos na obra; e a metade deles tinham lanças desde a subida do amanhecer até o surgir das estrelas.

And we `vs silf schal make the werk, and the half part of vs holde speris, fro `the stiyng of the moreutid til that sterris go out.

22 Também naquele tempo eu disse ao povo: Cada um passe a noite com seu servo dentro de Jerusalém, para que de noite nos sirvam de guarda, e de dia na obra.

And `in that tyme Y seide to the puple, Ech man with his child dwelle in the myddil of Jerusalem, and whilis be to vs `bi nyyt and dai to worche.

23 E nem eu, nem meus irmãos, nem meus servos, nem os homens da guarda que me seguiam, nos despíamos de nossas roupas; cada um [mantinha] sua arma [até para] a água.

But Y, and my britheren, and my keperis, and children, that weren after me, diden not of oure clothis; ech man was maad nakid oneli to waischyng.
