Juízes 8
1 E os de Efraim lhe disseram: Que é isto que fizeste conosco, não chamando-nos quando ias à guerra contra Midiã? E reclamaram dele fortemente.
And the men of Ephraim said to Gedeon, What [is] this [that] you have done to us, in that you did not call us when you went to fight with Madiam? and they chode with him sharply.
2 Aos quais ele respondeu: Que fiz eu agora como vós? Não são as sobras das uvas de Efraim melhor que a vindima de Abiezer?
And he said to them, What have I now done in comparison of you? [is] not the gleaning of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
3 Deus entregou em vossas mãos a Orebe e a Zeebe, príncipes de Midiã: e que pude eu fazer como vós? Então a ira deles contra ele se aplacou, logo que ele falou esta palavra.
The Lord has delivered into your hand the princes of Madiam, Oreb and Zeb; and what could I do in comparison of you? Then was their spirit calmed toward him, when he spoke this word.
4 E veio Gideão ao Jordão para passar, ele e os trezentos homens que trazia consigo, cansados, mas ainda perseguindo.
And Gedeon came to Jordan, and went over, himself and the three hundred with him, hungry, yet pursuing.
5 E disse aos de Sucote: Eu vos rogo que deis à gente que me segue alguns bocados de pão; porque estão cansados, e eu persigo a Zeba e a Zalmuna, reis de Midiã.
And he said to the men of Socchoth, Give, I pray you, bread to feed this people that follow me; because they are faint, and behold, I am following after Zebee and Salmana, kings of Madiam.
6 E os principais de Sucote responderam: Está já a mão de Zeba e Zalmuna em tua mão, para que havemos nós de dar pão a teu exército?
And the princes of Socchoth said, [Are] the hands of Zebee and Salmana now in your hand, that we should give bread to your host?
7 E Gideão disse: Pois quando o SENHOR entregar em minha mão a Zeba e a Zalmuna, eu trilharei vossa carne com espinhos e cardos do deserto.
And Gedeon said, Therefore when the Lord gives Zebee and Salmana into my hand, then will I tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and the Barkenim.
8 E dali subiu a Peniel, e falou-lhes as mesmas palavras. E os de Peniel lhe responderam como haviam respondido os de Sucote.
And he went up thence to Phanuel, and spoke to them likewise: and the men of Phanuel answered him as the men of Socchoth [had] answered him.
9 E ele falou também aos de Peniel, dizendo: Quando eu voltar em paz, derrubarei esta torre.
And Gedeon said to the men of Phanuel, When I return in peace, I will break down this tower.
10 E Zeba e Zalmuna estavam em Carcor, e com eles seu exército de como quinze mil homens, todos os que haviam restado de todo aquele acampamento dos orientais: e os mortos haviam sido cento vinte mil homens que tiravam espada.
And Zebee and Salmana [were] in Carcar, and their host [was] with them, about fifteen thousand, all that were left of all the host of the aliens; and they that fell [were] a hundred and twenty thousand men that drew the sword.
11 E subindo Gideão até os que habitavam em tendas, à parte oriental de Noba e de Jogbeá, feriu o acampamento, porque estava o exército desprevenido.
And Gedeon went up by the way of them that lived in tents, eastward of Nabai and Jegebal; and he struck the host, and the host was secure.
12 E fugindo Zeba e Zalmuna, ele os seguiu; e tomados os dois reis de Midiã, Zeba e Zalmuna, espantou a todo aquele exército.
And Zebee and Salmana fled; and he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Madiam, Zebee and Salmana, and discomfited all the army.
13 E Gideão filho de Joás voltou da batalha antes que o sol subisse;
And Gedeon the son of Joas returned from the battle, down from the battle of Ares.
14 E tomou um jovem dos de Sucote, e perguntando-lhe, ele lhe deu por escrito os principais de Sucote e seus anciãos, setenta e sete homens.
And he took prisoner a young lad of the men of Socchoth, and questioned him; and he wrote to him the names of the princes of Socchoth and of their elders, seventy-seven men.
15 E entrando aos de Sucote, disse: Eis aqui a Zeba e a Zalmuna, sobre os quais me escarnecestes, dizendo: Está já a mão de Zeba e de Zalmuna em tua mão, para que demos nós pão a teus homens cansados?
And Gedeon came to the princes of Socchoth, and said, Behold Zebee and Salmana, about whom you reproached me, saying, [Are] the hands of Zebee and Salmana now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men that are faint?
16 E tomou aos anciãos da cidade, e espinhos e cardos do deserto, e castigou com eles aos de Sucote.
And he took the elders of the city with the thorns of the wilderness and the Barkenim, and with them he tore the men of the city.
17 Também derrubou a torre de Peniel, e matou aos da cidade.
And he overthrew the tower of Phanuel, and killed the men of the city.
18 Logo disse a Zeba e a Zalmuna: Que maneira de homens tinham aqueles que matastes em Tabor? E eles responderam: Como tu, tais eram aqueles nem mais nem menos, que apareciam filhos de rei.
And he said to Zebee and Salmana, Where [are] the men whom you killed in Thabor? and they said, As you, so [were] they, according to the likeness of the son of a king.
19 E ele disse: Meus irmãos eram, filhos de minha mãe: Vive o SENHOR, que se os tivésseis guardado em vida, eu não vos mataria!
And Gedeon said, They were my brethren and the sons of my mother: [as] the Lord lives, if you had preserved them alive, I would not have slain you.
20 E disse a Jéter seu primogênito: Levanta-te, e mata-os. Mas o jovem não desembainhou sua espada, porque tinha medo; que ainda era jovem.
And he said to Jether his firstborn, Rise and kill them; but the lad drew not his sword, for he was afraid, for he was yet very young.
21 Então disse Zeba e Zalmuna: Levanta-te tu, e mata-nos; porque como é o homem, tal é sua valentia. E Gideão se levantou, e matou a Zeba e a Zalmuna; e tomou os adornos de crescentes que seus camelos traziam ao pescoço.
And Zebee and Salmana said, Rise you and fall upon us, for your power [is] as that of a man; and Gedeon arose, and killed Zebee and Salmana: and he took the round ornaments that were on the necks of their camels.
22 E os israelitas disseram a Gideão: Sê nosso senhor, tu, e teu filho, e teu neto; pois que nos livraste da mão de Midiã.
And the men of Israel said to Gedeon, Rule, [my] lord, over us, both you, and your son, and your son's son; for you have saved us out of the hand of Madiam.
23 Mas Gideão respondeu: Não serei senhor sobre vós, nem meu filho vos dominará: o SENHOR será vosso Senhor.
And Gedeon said to them, I will not rule, and my son shall not rule among you; the Lord shall rule over you.
24 E disse-lhes Gideão: Desejo fazer-vos uma petição, que cada um me dê os pendentes de seu despojo. (Porque traziam pendentes de ouro, que eram ismaelitas.)
And Gedeon said to them, I will make a request of you, and do you give me every man an earring out of his spoils: for they had golden earrings, for they were Ismaelites.
25 E eles responderam: De boa vontade os daremos. E segurando uma roupa de vestir, lançou ali cada um os pendentes de seu despojo.
And they said, We will certainly give them: and he opened his garment, and each man cast therein an earring of his spoils.
26 E foi o peso dos pendentes de ouro que ele pediu mil e setecentos siclos de ouro; sem contar os ornamentos, e as joias, e vestidos de púrpura, que traziam os reis de Midiã, e sem os colares que traziam seus camelos ao pescoço.
And the weight of the golden earrings which he asked, was a thousand and seven hundred pieces of gold, besides the crescents, and the chains, and the garments, and the purple cloths that were on the kings of Madiam, and besides the chains that were on the necks of their camels.
27 E Gideão fez deles um éfode, o qual fez guardar em sua cidade de Ofra: e todo Israel prostituiu-se atrás desse éfode naquele lugar; e foi por tropeço a Gideão e a sua casa.
And Gedeon made an ephod of it, an set it in his city in Ephratha; and all Israel went there a whoring after it, and it became a stumbling block to Gedeon and his house.
28 Assim foi humilhado Midiã diante dos filhos de Israel, e nunca mais levantaram sua cabeça. E repousou a terra quarenta anos nos dias de Gideão.
And Madiam, was straitened before the children of Israel, and they did not lift up their head any more; and the land had rest forty years in the days of Gedeon.
29 E Jerubaal filho de Joás foi, e habitou em sua casa.
And Jerobaal the son of Joas went and sat in his house.
30 E teve Gideão setenta filhos que saíram de sua coxa, porque teve muitas mulheres.
And Gedeon had seventy sons begotten of his body, for he had many wives.
31 E sua concubina que estava em Siquém, também lhe deu um filho; e pôs-lhe por nome Abimeleque.
And his concubine was in Sychem, and she also bore him a son, and gave him the name Abimelech.
32 E morreu Gideão filho de Joás em boa velhice, e foi sepultado no sepulcro de seu pai Joás, em Ofra dos abiezritas.
And Gedeon son of Joas died in his city, and he was buried in the sepulchre of Joas his father in Ephratha of Abi-Esdri.
33 E aconteceu que quando morreu Gideão, os filhos de Israel voltaram, e se prostituíram atrás dos baalins, e se puseram por Deus a Baal-Berite.
And it came to pass when Gedeon was dead, that the children of Israel turned, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made for themselves a covenant with Baal that he should be their god.
34 E os filhos de Israel não se lembraram do SENHOR seu Deus, que os havia livrado de todos os seus inimigos ao redor;
And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God who had delivered them out of the hand of all that afflicted them round about.
35 Nem fizeram misericórdia com a casa de Jerubaal Gideão conforme todo aquele bem que ele havia feito a Israel.
And they did not deal mercifully with the house of Jerobaal, (the same is Gedeon) according to all the good which he did to Israel.
