Jeremias 9
1 Ah, se minha cabeça se tornasse em águas, e meus olhos em um manancial de águas! Então eu choraria dia e noite pelos mortos da filha de meu povo.
Oh that my head were waters, And mine eyes a fountain of tears, —That I might weep day and night, For the slain of the daughter of my people!
2 Ah, se houvesse para mim no deserto uma hospedaria para caminhantes! Então eu deixaria o meu povo, e me afastaria deles; pois todos eles são adúlteros, são um bando de traiçoeiros.
Oh that I had in the wilderness, a wayfarers’ lodge, That I might leave my people, and go from them, —For they all, are Adulterers, An assemblage of traitors;
3 Eles estendem suas línguas, como [se] lhes fossem arcos, para atirarem mentira; e se fortaleceram na terra, mas não por meio da verdade; porque se avançam de mal em mal, e não me conhecem, diz o SENHOR.
Who have prepared their tongue as their bow of falsehood, And, not by faithfulness, have they become mighty in the land, —For from wickedness unto wickedness, have they gone forth, But me, have they not known, Declareth Yahweh.
4 Guardai-vos cada um de seu amigo, nem em irmão algum tende confiança: porque todo irmão só faz enganar, e todo amigo anda com falsidades.
Every one, of his neighbour, beware ye, And in no brother, may ye trust, —For, every brother, supplanteth! And every neighbour, as a tale-bearer, goeth about;
5 E cada um engana a seu amigo, e não falam a verdade; ensinaram sua língua a falar mentira, e agem perversamente até se cansarem.
Yea, every one, of his neighbour, maketh a dupe, And, truth, they do not speak, —They have taught their tongue to speak falsehood, In acting perversely, they have wearied themselves.
6 Tua habitação é em meio ao engano; por meio do engano se negam a me conhecer, diz o SENHOR.
Thy dwelling, is in the midst of deceit, —Through deceit, have they rejected the knowledge of, me, Declareth Yahweh.
7 Portanto assim diz o SENHOR dos exércitos: Eis que que eu os fundirei, e os provarei; pois de que [outra maneira] agiria eu com a filha de meu povo?
Therefore, thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Behold me! melting them, so will I try them, —For how else should I do because of the wickedness of the daughter of my people?
8 A língua deles é uma flecha mortífera, que fala engano; com sua boca fala paz com seu próximo, mas em seu interior lhe arma ciladas.
A pointed arrow, is their tongue Deceit, hath it spoken, —With his mouth peace unto his neighbour, doth one speak, But within himself, he layeth his ambush.
9 Por acaso eu não os puniria por estas coisas? Diz o SENHOR. Por acaso minha alma não se vingaria de tal nação?
For these things, shall I not bring punishment on them? Demandeth Yahweh, —On a nation such as this, must not my soul avenge herself!
10 Sobre os montes levantarei choro e pranto, e lamentação as moradas do deserto; porque foram desoladas até não haver quem [por ali] passe, nem [ali] se ouve bramido de gado; desde as aves do céu e até os animais da terra fugiram, e foram embora.
Over the mountains, will I take up a weeping and wailing, And over the oases of the desert, a dirge, For they have been burned, so that no man passeth through, Neither have men heard the lowing of cattle, —Both the bird of the heavens and the beast have fled, have gone their way:
11 E tornarei Jerusalém em amontoados [de pedras], para morada de chacais; e tornarei as cidades de Judá em ruínas, de modo que não haja morador.
Thus will I give up Jerusalem To heaps, A habitation for jackals, —And the cities of Judah, will I give up to desolation, without inhabitant.
12 Quem é homem sábio, que entenda isto? E a quem falou a boca do SENHOR, para que possa anunciá-lo? Por que razão a terra pereceu, queimada como deserto, de modo que não há quem [nela] passe?
Who, is the man that is wise That he may discern this? And, unto whom, hath the mouth of Yahweh spoken, That he may declare it? For what cause Hath the land perished, Hath it been burned as a wilderness that no man passeth through?
13 E disse o SENHOR: Foi porque abandonaram minha lei, que dei diante deles, nem deram ouvidos a minha voz, nem caminharam conforme a ela;
Then said Yahweh, —Because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them, —And have not hearkened to hay voice neither walked therein;
14 Ao invés disso, eles seguiram atrás da teimosia de seu coração, e atrás dos Baalins, que seus pais lhes ensinaram.
But have gone their way, After the stubbornness of their own heart, —And after the Baals which their fathers taught them,
15 Por isso assim diz o SENHOR dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que a este povo eu lhes darei de comer absinto, e lhes darei de beber água de fel.
Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh of hosts, The God of Israel, Behold me! Feeding them, even this people, with wormwood, —And I will cause them to drink, poisoned water;
16 E os espalharei entre nações que nem eles, nem seus pais conheceram; e mandarei espada atrás deles, até que eu os acabe.
And will scatter them among the nations, which neither they nor their fathers, have known, —And will send after them the sword, until I have consumed them.
17 Assim diz o SENHOR dos exércitos: Considerai, e chamai carpideiras, que venham; e enviai as mais hábeis, que venham:
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Consider ye diligently and call for the wailing women that they may come, —And unto the wise women, send ye, that they may come;
18 E se apressem, e levantem pranto sobre nós, e desfaçam-se nossos olhos em lágrimas, e nossas pálpebras se destilem em águas.
Yea let them make haste, and lift up over us a wailing, —That our eyes, may run down, with tears, And, our eyelashes, stream down with water; —
19 Porque uma voz de pranto foi ouvida de Sião: Como fomos destruídos! Nós nos tornamos muito envergonhados, por termos deixado a terra, por nossas moradas terem sido arruinadas.
Yea, a voice of wailing, hath been heard out of Zion How are we ruined! We have turned very pale For we have left the land, For they have cast down our habitations.
20 Ouvi pois, vós mulheres, a palavra do SENHOR, e vossos ouvidos recebam a palavra de sua boca; e ensinai pranto a vossas filhas, e cada uma lamentação a sua companheira.
For hear O ye women the word of Yahweh, And let your ear take in the word of his mouth, —And teach your daughters a wail, Yea each woman—her neighbour, a dirge: —
21 Porque a morte subiu a nossas janelas, [e] entrou em nossos palácios; para arrancar os meninos das ruas, os rapazes das praças.
That death Hath come up through our windows, Hath entered our palaces, —Cutting off The boy from the street, The young men from the broadways.
22 Fala: Assim disse o SENHOR: Os cadáveres dos homens cairão como esterco sobre a face do campo, e como espigas de cereal atrás do ceifeiro, que não há quem as recolha.
Speak thou, Thus, declareth Yahweh, So shall fall the dead bodies of men, Like dung heaps on the face of the field, —And like swaths after the harvestman, With none to gather.
23 Assim diz o SENHOR: Não se orgulhe o sábio em sua sabedoria, nem o valente se orgulhe em sua valentia, nem o rico se orgulhe em suas riquezas.
Thus, saith Yahweh Let not, the wise man, glory in his wisdom, Neither let, the mighty man, glory, in his might, —Let not, the rich man, glory in his riches;
24 Mas aquele que se orgulhar, orgulhe-se nisto: em me entender e me conhecer, que eu sou o SENHOR, que faço bondade, juízo, e justiça na terra; porque destas coisas eu me agrado, diz o SENHOR.
But, in this, let the glorying one glory—In having intelligence and in knowing me, That, I, am Yahweh, Executing lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth, —That in these things, I delight Declareth Yahweh.
25 Eis que vêm dias, diz o SENHOR, em que castigarei todo circunciso e todo incircunciso:
Lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, —When I will bring punishment upon every one circumcised, With him that is uncircumcised:
26 A Egito, a Judá, a Edom, aos filhos de Amom e de Moabe, e a todos os dos cantos mais distantes, que moram no deserto; pois todas as nações são incircuncisas; mas toda a casa de Israel é incircuncisa no coração.
Upon Egypt and upon Judah, And upon Edom, and upon the sons of Ammon, And upon Moab, And upon all the clipped beards, The dwellers in the desert, —For, all the nations, are uncircumcised, And, all the house of Israel, are uncircumcised in heart.
