2 Crônicas 25

1 De vinte e cinco anos era Amazias quando começou a reinar, e vinte e nove anos reinou em Jerusalém: o nome de sua mãe foi Jeoadã, de Jerusalém.

Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

2 Fez ele o que era correto aos olhos do SENHOR ainda que não de coração íntegro.

And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.

3 E logo que foi confirmado no reino, matou os seus servos que haviam matado o seu pai, o rei;

Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established unto him, that he slew his servants which had killed the king his father.

4 Mas não matou aos filhos deles, segundo o que está escrito na lei no livro de Moisés, de onde o SENHOR mandou, dizendo: Não morrerão os pais pelos filhos, nem os filhos pelos pais; mas cada um morrerá por seu pecado.

But he put not their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

5 Juntou logo Amazias a Judá, e com arranjo às famílias pôs-lhes capitães de milhares e comandantes de cem por todo Judá e Benjamim; e tomou-os por lista de vinte anos acima, e foram achados neles trezentos mil escolhidos para sair à guerra, que tinham lança e escudo.

Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers’ houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

6 E de Israel contratou a dinheiro cem mil homens valentes, por cem talentos de prata.

He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.

7 Mas um homem de Deus veio a ele, dizendo-lhe: Rei, não vá contigo o exército de Israel; porque o SENHOR não é com Israel, nem com todos os filhos de Efraim.

But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, [to wit], with all the children of Ephraim.

8 Porém se tu vais, se o fazes, e te esforças para lutar, Deus te fará cair diante dos inimigos; porque em Deus está a força, ou para ajudar, ou para derrubar.

But if thou wilt go, do [valiantly], be strong for the battle: God shall cast thee down before the enemy; for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

9 E Amazias disse ao homem de Deus: Que, pois, se fará de cem talentos que dei ao exército de Israel? E o homem de Deus respondeu: Do SENHOR é dar-te muito mais que isto.

And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.

10 Então Amazias separou o esquadrão da gente que havia vindo a ele de Efraim, para que se fossem a suas casas: e eles se iraram grandemente contra Judá, e voltaram a suas casas encolerizados.

Then Amaziah separated them, [to wit], the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

11 Esforçando-se então Amazias, tirou seu povo, e veio ao vale do sal: e feriu dos filhos de Seir dez mil.

And Amaziah took courage, and led forth his people, and went to the Valley of Salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

12 E os filhos de Judá tomaram vivos outros dez mil, os quais levaram ao cume de um penhasco, e dali os atiraram abaixo, e todos se fizeram em pedaços.

And [other] ten thousand did the children of Judah carry away alive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.

13 Porém os do esquadrão que Amazias havia despedido, porque não fossem com ele à guerra, derramaram-se sobre as cidades de Judá, desde Samaria até Bete-Horom, e feriram deles três mil, e tomaram um grande despojo.

But the men of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote of them three thousand, and took much spoil.

14 Regressando logo Amasias da matança dos edomitas, trouxe também consigo os deuses dos filhos de Seir, e os pôs para si por deuses, e encurvou-se diante deles, e queimou-lhes incenso.

Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

15 Acendeu-se, portanto, o furor do SENHOR contra Amasias, e enviou a ele um profeta, que lhe disse: Por que buscaste os deuses de gente estrangeira, que não livraram a seu povo de tuas mãos?

Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of thine hand?

16 E falando-lhe o profeta estas coisas, ele lhe respondeu: Puseram a ti por conselheiro do rei? Deixa-te disso: por que queres que te matem? E ao cessar, o profeta disse logo: Eu sei que Deus decidiu destruir-te, porque fizeste isto, e não obedeceste a meu conselho.

And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that [the king] said unto him, Have we made thee of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

17 E Amazias rei de Judá, havido seu conselho, enviou a dizer a Joás, filho de Jeoacaz filho de Jeú, rei de Israel: Vem, e vejamo-nos face a face.

Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

18 Então Joás rei de Israel enviou a dizer a Amazias rei de Judá: O cardo que estava no Líbano, enviou ao cedro que estava no Líbano, dizendo: Da tua filha a meu filho por mulher. E eis que os animais selvagens que estavam no Líbano, passaram, e pisotearam o cardo.

And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon; and trode down the thistle.

19 Tu dizes: Eis que feri a Edom; e teu coração se enaltece para gloriar-te: agora fica-te em tua casa; para que te intrometes em mal, para cair tu e Judá contigo?

Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten Edom; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to [thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

20 Mas Amasias não quis ouvir; porque isto era da parte de Deus, que queria os entregar nas mãos de seus inimigos, porquanto haviam buscado os deuses de Edom.

But Amaziah would not hear; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand [of their enemies], because they had sought after the gods of Edom.

21 Subiu, pois, Joás rei de Israel, e vieram face a face ele e Amazias rei de Judá, em Bete-Semes, a qual é de Judá.

So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

22 Porém caiu Judá diante de Israel, e fugiu cada um a sua morada.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

23 E Joás rei de Israel prendeu em Bete-Semes a Amazias rei de Judá, filho de Joás filho de Jeoacaz, e levou-o a Jerusalém: e derrubou o muro de Jerusalém desde a porta de Efraim até a porta da esquina, quatrocentos côvados.

And Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

24 Assim tomou todo o ouro e prata, e todos os vasos que se acharam na casa de Deus em casa de Obede-Edom, e os tesouros da casa do rei, e os filhos dos príncipes, e voltou-se a Samaria.

And [he took] all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

25 E viveu Amazias filho de Joás, rei de Judá, quinze anos depois da morte de Joás filho de Jeoacaz rei de Israel.

And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

26 Os demais dos feitos de Amazias, primeiros e últimos, não estão escritos no livro dos reis de Judá e de Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

27 Desde aquele tempo que Amazias se separou do SENHOR, maquinaram contra ele conspiração em Jerusalém; e havendo ele fugido a Laquis, enviaram atrás ele a Laquis, e ali o mataram;

Now from the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

28 E trouxeram-no em cavalos, e sepultaram-no com seus pais na cidade de Judá.

And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
