Jeremias 4

1 Se te converteres, ó Israel, diz o Senhor, volta para mim: e, se tirares as tuas abominações de diante de mim, não andarás mais vagueando,

If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord, return to me: if thou wilt take away thy stumblingblocks out of my sight, thou shalt not be moved.

2 E jurarás: Vive o Senhor na verdade, no juízo e na justiça; e nele se bendirão as gentes, e nele se glóriarão.

And thou shalt swear: As the Lord liveth, in truth, and in judgement, and in justice: and the Gentiles shall bless him, and shall praise him.

3 Porque assim diz o Senhor aos homens de Judá e a Jerusalém: lavrai para vós o campo de lavoura, e não semeeis entre espinhos.

For thus saith the Lord to the men of Juda and Jerusalem: Break up anew your fallow ground, and sow not upon thorns:

4 Circuncidai-vos ao Senhor, e tirai os prepúcios do vosso coração, ó homens de Judá e habitadores de Jerusalém, para que a minha indignação não venha a sair como fogo, e arda, e não haja quem a apague, por causa da malícia das vossas obras.

Be circumcised to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your hearts, ye men of Juda, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my indignation come forth like fire, and burn, and there be none that can quench it: because of the wickedness of your thoughts.

5 Anunciai em Judá, e fazei ouvir em Jerusalém, e dizei, e tocai a trombeta na terra, gritai em alta voz, e dizei: ajuntai-vos, e entremos nas cidades fortes.

Declare ye in Juda, and make it heard in Jerusalem: speak, and sound with the trumpet in the land: cry aloud, and say: Assemble yourselves, and let us go into strong cities.

6 Arvorai a bandeira para Sião, retirai-vos em tropas, não estejais parados; porque eu trago um mal do norte, e um grande quebrantamento.

Set up the standard in Sion. Strengthen yourselves, stay not: for I bring evil from the north, and great destruction.

7 Já um leão subiu da sua ramada, e um destruidor das nações; ele já partiu, e saiu do seu lugar para fazer da tua terra uma desolação; que as tuas cidades sejam destruídas, e ninguém habite nelas.

The lion is come up out of his den, and the robber of nations hath roused himself: he is come forth out of his place, to make thy land desolate: thy cities shall be laid waste, remaining without an inhabitant.

8 Por isto cingi-vos de sacos, lamentai, e uivai; porque o ardor da ira do Senhor não se desviou de nós.

For this gird yourselves with haircloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the Lord is not turned away from us.

9 E sucederá naquele tempo, diz o Senhor, que se desfará o coração do rei e o coração dos príncipes; e os sacerdotes pasmarão, e os profetas se maravilharão.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord: That the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes: and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall be amazed.

10 Então disse eu: Ah Senhor Jehovah! verdadeiramente enganaste grandemente a este povo e a Jerusalém, dizendo; Tereis paz; e chegas-lhes a espada até à alma.

And I said: Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God, hast thou then deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying: You shall have peace: and behold the sword reacheth even to the soul?

11 Naquele tempo se dirá a este povo e a Jerusalém: Um vento seco das alturas do deserto veio ao caminho da filha do meu povo; não para padejar, nem para alimpar;

At that time it shall be said to this people, and to Jerusalem: A burning wind is in the ways that are in the desert of the way of the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse.

12 Mas um vento me virá a mim, que lhes será mais veemente: agora também eu pronunciarei juízos contra eles.

A full wind from these places shall come to me: and now I will speak my judgments with them.

13 Eis que virá subindo como nuvens e os seus carros como a tormenta; os seus cavalos serão mais ligeiros do que as águias; ai de nós! que somos assolados!

Behold he shall come up as a cloud, and his chariots as a tempest: his horses are swifter than eagles: woe unto us, for we are laid waste.

14 Lava o teu coração da malícia, ó Jerusalém, para que sejas salva; até quando permanecerão no meio de ti os pensamentos da tua vaidade?

Wash thy heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, that thou mayst be saved: how long shall hurtful thoughts abide in thee?

15 Porque uma voz anuncia desde Dan, e faz ouvir a calamidade desde o monte de Ephraim.

For a voice of one declaring from Dan, and giving notice of the idol from mount Ephraim.

16 Disto fazei menção às nações; eis aqui fazei-o ouvir contra Jerusalém; que vigias veem de uma terra remota, e levantarão a sua voz contra as cidades de Judá

Say ye to the nations: Behold it is heard in Jerusalem, that guards are coming from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Juda.

17 Como as guardas de um campo, estão contra ela ao redor; porquanto ela se rebelou contra mim, diz o Senhor.

They are set round about her, as keepers of fields: because she hath provoked me to wrath, saith the Lord.

18 O teu caminho e as tuas obras te fizeram estas coisas: esta é a tua malícia, que tão amargosa é que te chega até ao coração.

They ways, and thy devices have brought these things upon thee: this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it hath touched thy heart.

19 Ah entranhas minhas, entranhas minhas! estou com dores no meu coração! ruge em mim o meu coração, já não me posso calar; porque tu, ó alma minha, ouviste o som da trombeta e o alarido da guerra.

My bowels, my bowels are in pain, the senses of my heart are troubled within me, I will not hold my peace, for my soul hath heard the sound of the trumpet, the cry of battle.

20 Quebranto sobre quebranto se apregoa: porque já toda a terra está destruída: de repente foram destruídas as minhas tendas, e as minhas cortinas num momento.

Destruction upon destruction is called for, and all the earth is laid waste: my tents are destroyed on a sudden, and my pavilions in a moment.

21 Até quando verei a bandeira, e ouvirei a voz da trombeta?

How long shall I see men fleeing away, how long shall I hear the sound of the trumpet?

22 Deveras o meu povo está louco, já a mim me não conhecem; são filhos néscios, e não entendidos: sábios são para mal fazer, mas para bem fazer nada sabem.

For my foolish people have not known me: they are foolish and senseless children: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

23 Vi a terra, e eis que estava assolada e vazia; e os céus, e não tinham a sua luz.

I beheld the earth, and lo it was void, and nothing: and the heavens, and there was no light in them.

24 Vi os montes, e eis que estavam tremendo; e todos os outeiros estremeciam.

I looked upon the mountains, and behold they trembled: and all the hills were troubled.

25 Vi, e eis que homem nenhum havia; e já todas as aves do céu eram fugidas.

I beheld, and lo there was no man: and all the birds of the air were gone.

26 Vi, e eis que a terra fértil era um deserto; e todas as suas cidades estavam derribadas diante do Senhor, diante do furor da sua ira.

I looked, and behold Carmel was a wilderness: and all its cities were destroyed at the presence of the Lord, and at the presence of the wrath of his indignation.

27 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Toda esta terra será assolada: de todo, porém, a não consumirei.

For thus saith the Lord: All the land shall be desolate, but yet I will not utterly destroy.

28 Por isto lamentará a terra, e os céus em cima se enegrecerão; porquanto assim o disse, assim o propuz, e não me arrependi nem me desviarei disso.

The earth shall mourn, and the heavens shall lament from above: because I have spoken, I have purposed, and I have not repented, neither am I turned away from it.

29 Do clamor dos cavaleiros e dos flecheiros já fugiram todas as cidades; entraram pelas nuvens, e treparam pelos penhascos: todas as cidades ficaram desamparadas, e já ninguém habita nelas.

At the voice of the horsemen, and the archers, all the city is fled away; they have entered into thickets and have climbed up the rocks: all the cities are forsaken, and there dwelleth not a man in them.

30 Agora, pois, que farás, ó assolada? ainda que te vistas de carmezim, ainda que te enfeites de enfeites de ouro, ainda que te pintes em volta dos teus olhos com o antimônio, debalde te enfeitarias: já os amantes te desprezam, e a vida te procurarão tirar

But when thou art spoiled what wilt thou do? though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, and paintest thy eyes with stibic stone, thou shalt dress thyself out in vain: thy lovers have despised thee, they will seek thy life.

31 Porquanto ouço uma voz, como de uma que está de parto, uma angústia como da que está com dores de parto do primeiro filho; a voz da filha de Sião, ofegante, que estende as suas mãos, dizendo: Oh! ai de mim agora, porque já a minha alma desmaia por causa dos matadores.

For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labor of a child. The voice of the daughter of Sion, dying away, spreading her hands: Woe is me, for my soul hath fainted because of them that are slain.
