Eclesiastes 7
1 Melhor é a boa fama do que o melhor unguento, e o dia da morte do que o dia do nascimento d'alguem.
A good name is betere than preciouse oynementis; and the dai of deth is betere than the dai of birthe.
2 Melhor é ir á casa do luto do que ir á casa do banquete, porque n'ella é o fim de todos os homens; e os vivos o applicam ao seu coração.
It is betere to go to the hous of morenyng, than to the hous of a feeste; for in that hous `of morenyng the ende of alle men is monestid, and a man lyuynge thenkith, what is to comynge.
3 Melhor é o nojo do que o riso, porque com a tristeza do rosto se encommenda o coração.
Yre is betere than leiyyng; for the soule of a trespassour is amendid bi the heuynesse of cheer.
4 O coração dos sabios está na casa do luto, mas o coração dos tolos na casa da alegria.
The herte of wise men is where sorewe is; and the herte of foolis is where gladnesse is.
5 Melhor é ouvir a reprehensão do sabio, do que ouvir alguem a canção do tolo.
It is betere to be repreued of a wijs man, than to be disseyued bi the flateryng of foolis;
6 Porque qual o ruido dos espinhos debaixo d'uma panella, tal é o riso do tolo: tambem isto é vaidade.
for as the sown of thornes brennynge vndur a pot, so is the leiyyng of a fool. But also this is vanyte.
7 Verdadeiramente que a oppressão faria endoidecer até ao sabio, e a peita corrompe o coração.
Fals chalenge disturblith a wijs man, and it schal leese the strengthe of his herte.
8 Melhor é o fim das coisas do que o principio d'ellas: melhor é o longanimo do que o altivo de coração.
Forsothe the ende of preyer is betere than the bigynnyng. A pacient man is betere than a proud man.
9 Não te apresses no teu espirito a irar-te, porque a ira repousa no seio dos tolos.
Be thou not swift to be wrooth; for ire restith in the bosum of a fool.
10 Nunca digas: Porque foram os dias passados melhores do que estes? porque nunca com sabedoria isto perguntarias.
Seie thou not, What gessist thou is of cause, that the formere tymes weren betere than ben now? for whi siche axyng is fonned.
11 Tão boa é a sabedoria como a herança, e d'ella os que vêem o sol tiram proveito.
Forsothe wisdom with richessis is more profitable, and profitith more to men seynge the sunne.
12 Porque a sabedoria serve de sombra, como de sombra serve o dinheiro; mas a excellencia do conhecimento é que a sabedoria dá vida ao seu possuidor.
For as wisdom defendith, so money defendith; but lernyng and wisdom hath this more, that tho yyuen lijf to `her weldere.
13 Attenta para a obra de Deus; porque quem poderá endireitar o que elle fez torto?
Biholde thou the werkis of God, that no man may amende hym, whom God hath dispisid.
14 No dia da prosperidade goza do bem, mas no dia da adversidade considera; porque tambem Deus fez a este em opposição áquelle, para que o homem nada ache do que haverá depois d'elle.
In a good day vse thou goodis, and bifore eschewe thou an yuel day; for God made so this dai as that dai, that a man fynde not iust playnyngis ayens hym.
15 Tudo isto vi nos dias da minha vaidade: ha um justo que perece na sua justiça, e ha um impio que prolonga os seus dias na sua maldade.
Also Y siy these thingis in the daies of my natyuyte; a iust man perischith in his riytfulnesse, and a wickid man lyueth myche tyme in his malice.
16 Não sejas demasiadamente justo, nem demasiadamente sabio: para que te destruirias a ti mesmo?
Nyle thou be iust myche, nether vndurstonde thou more than is nedeful; lest thou be astonyed.
17 Não sejas demasiadamente impio, nem sejas demasiadamente louco: para que morrerias fóra de teu tempo?
Do thou not wickidli myche, and nyle thou be a fool; lest thou die in a tyme not thin.
18 Bom é que retenhas isto, e tambem d'isto não retires a tua mão; porque quem teme a Deus escapa de tudo isto.
It is good, that thou susteyne a iust man; but also withdrawe thou not thin hond from hym; for he that dredith God, is not necligent of ony thing.
19 A sabedoria fortalece ao sabio, mais do que dez governadores que haja na cidade.
Wisdom hath coumfortid a wise man, ouer ten pryncis of a citee.
20 Na verdade que não ha homem justo sobre a terra, que faça bem, e nunca peque.
Forsothe no iust man is in erthe, that doith good, and synneth not.
21 Tão pouco appliques o teu coração a todas as palavras que se disserem, para que não venhas a ouvir que o teu servo te amaldiçoa.
But also yyue thou not thin herte to alle wordis, that ben seid; lest perauenture thou here thi seruaunt cursynge thee;
22 Porque o teu coração tambem já confessou muitas vezes que tambem tu amaldiçoaste a outros.
for thi conscience woot, that also thou hast cursid ofte othere men.
23 Tudo isto inquiri com sabedoria; e disse: Sabedoria adquirirei; mas ella ainda estava longe de mim.
I asayede alle thingis in wisdom; Y seide, I schal be maad wijs, and it yede awei ferthere fro me, myche more than it was;
24 Longe está o que foi; e o profundissimo quem o achará?
and the depthe is hiy, who schal fynde it?
25 Eu virei o meu coração para saber, e inquirir, e buscar a sabedoria e a razão, e para saber a impiedade da estulticia e a doidice dos desvarios.
I cumpasside alle thingis in my soule, to kunne, and biholde, and seke wisdom and resoun, and to knowe the wickidnesse of a fool, and the errour of vnprudent men.
26 E eu achei uma coisa mais amarga do que a morte, a mulher cujo coração são redes e laços, e as suas mãos ataduras: quem fôr bom diante de Deus escapará d'ella, mas o peccador virá a ser preso por ella.
And Y foond a womman bitterere than deth, which is the snare of hunteris, and hir herte is a net, and hir hondis ben boondis; he that plesith God schal ascape hir, but he that is a synnere, schal be takun of hir.
27 Vedes aqui, isto achei, diz o prégador, conferindo uma coisa com a outra para assim achar a razão d'ellas;
Lo! Y foond this, seide Ecclesiastes, oon and other, that Y schulde fynde resoun, which my soule sekith yit;
28 A qual ainda busca a minha alma, porém ainda não a achei; um homem entre mil achei eu, mas uma mulher entre todas estas não achei.
and Y foond not. I foond o man of a thousynde; Y foond not a womman of alle.
29 Vedes aqui, que isto tão sómente achei: que Deus fez ao homem recto, porém elles buscaram muitas invenções.
I foond this oonli, that God made a man riytful; and he medlide hym silf with questiouns with out noumbre. Who is siche as a wijs man? and who knowith the expownyng of a word?
