Deuteronômio 8

1 Todos os mandamentos que hoje vos ordeno guardareis para os fazer: para que vivaes, e vos multipliqueis, e entreis, e possuaes a terra que o Senhor jurou a vossos paes.

You shall observe to do all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers.

2 E te lembrarás de todo o caminho, pelo qual o Senhor teu Deus te guiou no deserto estes quarenta annos, para te humilhar, e te tentar, para saber o que estava no teu coração, se guardarias os seus mandamentos, ou não.

You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to prove you, and to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.

3 E te humilhou, e te deixou ter fome, e te sustentou com o manná, que tu não conheceste, nem teus paes o conheceram: para te dar a entender que o homem não viverá só de pão, mas que de tudo o que sae da bocca do Senhor viverá o homem.

He humbled you, and allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you know that humankind cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God shall humankind live.

4 Nunca se envelheceu o teu vestido sobre ti, nem se inchou o teu pé estes quarenta annos.

Your clothing did not grow old on you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.

5 Confessa pois no teu coração que, como um homem castiga a seu filho, assim te castiga o Senhor teu Deus.

You shall consider in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.

6 E guarda os mandamentos do Senhor teu Deus, para o temer, e andar nos seus caminhos.

You shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

7 Porque o Senhor teu Deus te mette n'uma boa terra, terra de ribeiros d'aguas, de fontes, e d'abysmos, que saem dos valles e das montanhas;

For the LORD your God brings you into a good and spacious land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills;

8 Terra de trigo e cevada, e de vides, e figueiras, e romeiras; terra de oliveiras, abundante de azeite e mel;

a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey;

9 Terra em que comerás o pão sem escassez, e nada te faltará n'ella: terra cujas pedras são ferro, e de cujos montes tu cavarás o cobre.

a land in which you shall eat bread without scarcity, and in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

10 Quando pois tiveres comido, e fores farto, louvarás ao Senhor teu Deus pela boa terra que te deu.

You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which he has given you.

11 Guarda-te que te esqueças do Senhor teu Deus, não guardando os seus mandamentos, e os seus juizos, e os seus estatutos que hoje te ordeno:

Beware lest you forget the LORD your God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you this day:

12 Para que, porventura, havendo tu comido e fores farto, e havendo edificado boas casas, e habitando-as,

lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and lived in them;

13 E se tiverem augmentado as tuas vaccas e as tuas ovelhas, e se accrescentar a prata e o oiro, e se multiplicar tudo quanto tens,

and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;

14 Se não eleve o teu coração e te esqueças do Senhor teu Deus, que te tirou da terra do Egypto, da casa da servidão;

then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

15 Que te guiou por aquelle grande e terrivel deserto de serpentes ardentes, e d'escorpiões, e de secura, em que não havia agua; e tirou agua para ti da rocha do seixal;

who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;

16 Que no deserto te sustentou com manná, que teus paes não conheceram; para te humilhar, e para te provar, para no teu fim te fazer bem;

who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know; that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end:

17 E digas no teu coração: A minha força, e a fortaleza de meu braço, me adquiriu este poder.

and lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth."

18 Antes te lembrarás do Senhor teu Deus, que elle é o que te dá força para adquirires poder; para confirmar o seu concerto, que jurou a teus paes; como se vê n'este dia.

But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.

19 Será porém que, se de qualquer sorte te esqueceres do Senhor teu Deus, e se ouvires outros deuses, e os servires, e te inclinares perante elles, hoje eu protesto contra vós que certamente perecereis.

It shall be, if you shall forget the LORD your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.

20 Como as gentes que o Senhor destruiu diante de vós, assim vós perecereis: porquanto não querieis obedecer á voz do Senhor vosso Deus.

As the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you wouldn't listen to the voice of the LORD your God.
