Deuteronômio 4

1 Agora, pois, ó Israel, ouve os estatutos e os juizos que eu vos ensi- no, para os fazerdes: para que vivaes, e entreis, e possuaes a terra que o Senhor Deus de vossos paes vos dá.

And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, giveth you.

2 Não accrescentareis á palavra que vos mando, nem diminuireis d'ella, para que guardeis os mandamentos do Senhor vosso Deus, que eu vos mando.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

3 Os vossos olhos teem visto o que Deus fez por Baal-peor; pois a todo o homem que seguiu a Baal-peor o Senhor teu Deus consumiu do meio de ti.

Your eyes have seen what the LORD did in Baal-peor; for all the men that followed the Baal of Peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from the midst of thee.

4 Porém vós, que vos cheastes ao Senhor vosso Deus, hoje todos estaes vivos.

But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.

5 Vêdes aqui vos tenho ensinado estatutos e juizos, como me mandou o Senhor meu Deus: para que assim façaes no meio da terra a qual ides a herdar.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the midst of the land whither ye go in to possess it.

6 Guardae-os pois, e fazei-os, porque esta será a vossa sabedoria e o vosso entendimento perante os olhos dos povos, que ouvirão todos estes estatutos, e dirão: Este grande povo só é gente sabia e entendida.

Observe therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, that, when they hear all these statutes, shall say: 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'

7 Porque, que gente ha tão grande, que tenha deuses tão chegados como o Senhor nosso Deus, todas as vezes que o chamamos?

For what great nation is there, that hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is whensoever we call upon Him?

8 E que gente ha tão grande, que tenha estatutos e juizos tão justos como toda esta lei que hoje dou perante vós?

And what great nation is there, that hath statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

9 Tão sómente guarda-te a ti mesmo, e guarda bem a tua alma, que te não esqueças d'aquellas coisas que os teus olhos teem visto, e se não apartem do teu coração todos os dias da tua vida: e as farãs saber a teus filhos, e aos filhos de teus filhos:

Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes saw, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; but make them known unto thy children and thy children's children;

10 O dia em que estiveste perante o Senhor teu Deus em Horeb, quando o Senhor me disse: Ajunta-me este povo, e os farei ouvir as minhas palavras, e aprendel-as-hão, para me temerem todos os dias que na terra viverem, e as ensinarão a seus filhos;

the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me: 'Assemble Me the people, and I will make them hear My words that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.'

11 E vós vos chegastes, e vos pozestes ao pé do monte: e o monte ardia em fogo até ao meio dos céus, e havia trevas, e nuvens e escuridão;

And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

12 Então o Senhor vos fallou do meio do fogo: a voz das palavras ouvistes; porém, além da voz, não vistes similhança nenhuma.

And the LORD spoke unto you out of the midst of the fire; ye heard the voice of words, but ye saw no form; only a voice.

13 Então vos annunciou elle o seu concerto, que vos ordenou fazer, os dez mandamentos, e os escreveu em duas taboas de pedra.

And He declared unto you His covenant, which He commanded you to perform, even the ten words; and He wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 Tambem o Senhor me ordenou ao mesmo tempo que vos ensinasse estatutos e juizos, para que os fizesseis na terra a qual passaes a possuir.

And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

15 Guardae pois com diligencia as vossas almas, pois similhança nenhuma vistes no dia em que o Senhor vosso Deus em Horeb fallou comvosco do meio do fogo;

Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves — for ye saw no manner of form on the day that the LORD spoke unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire —

16 Para que não vos corrompaes, e vos façaes alguma esculptura, similhança de imagem, figura de macho ou de femea;

lest ye deal corruptly, and make you a graven image, even the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 Figura d'algum animal que haja na terra; figura d'alguma ave aligera que vôa pelos céus;

the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the heaven,

18 Figura d'algum animal que anda de rastos sobre a terra; figura d'algum peixe que esteja nas aguas debaixo da terra;

the likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth;

19 Que não levantes os teus olhos aos céus e vejas o sol, e a lua, e as estrellas, todo o exercito dos céus; e sejas impellido a que te inclines perante elles, e sirvas áquelles que o Senhor teu Deus repartiu a todos os povos debaixo de todos os céus.

and lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, thou be drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath allotted unto all the peoples under the whole heaven.

20 Mas o Senhor vos tomou, e vos tirou do forno de ferro do Egypto, para que lhe sejaes por povo hereditario, como n'este dia se vê.

But you hath the LORD taken and brought forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be unto Him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

21 Tambem o Senhor se indignou contra mim por causa das vossas palavras, e jurou que eu não passaria o Jordão, e que não entraria na boa terra que o Senhor teu Deus te dará por herança.

Now the LORD was angered with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance;

22 Porque eu n'esta terra morrerei, não passarei o Jordão: porém vós o passareis, e possuireis aquella boa terra.

but I must die in this land, I must not go over the Jordan; but ye are to go over, and possess that good land.

23 Guardae-vos de que vos esqueçaes do concerto do Senhor vosso Deus, que tem feito comvosco, e vos façaes esculptura alguma, imagem d'alguma coisa que o Senhor vosso Deus vos prohibiu.

Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which He made with you, and make you a graven image, even the likeness of any thing which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.

24 Porque o Senhor teu Deus é um fogo que consome, um Deus zeloso.

For the LORD thy God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

25 Quando pois gerardes filhos, e filhos de filhos, e vos envelhecerdes na terra, e vos corromperdes, e fizerdes alguma esculptura, similhança d'alguma coisa, e fizerdes mal aos olhos do Senhor, para o provocar á ira:

When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have been long in the land, and shall deal corruptly, and make a graven image, even the form of any thing, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke Him;

26 Hoje tomo por testemunhas contra vós o céu e a terra, que certamente perecereis depressa da terra, a qual passaes o Jordão a possuir: não prolongareis os vossos dias n'ella, antes sereis de todo destruidos.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over the Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

27 E o Senhor vos espalhará entre os povos, e ficareis poucos em numero entre as gentes ás quaes o Senhor vos conduzirá.

And the LORD shall scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left few in number among the nations, whither the LORD shall lead you away.

28 E ali servireis a deuses que são obra de mãos de homens, madeira e pedra, que não vêem nem ouvem, nem comem nem cheiram.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 Então d'ali buscarás ao Senhor teu Deus, e o acharás, quando o buscares de todo o teu coração e de toda a tua alma

But from thence ye will seek the LORD thy God; and thou shalt find Him, if thou search after Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

30 Quando estiveres em angustia, e todas estas coisas te alcançarem, então no fim de dias te virarás ao Senhor teu Deus, e ouvirás a sua voz

In thy distress, when all these things are come upon thee, in the end of days, thou wilt return to the LORD thy God, and hearken unto His voice;

31 Porquanto o Senhor teu Deus é Deus misericordioso; e não te desamparará, nem te destruirá, nem se esquecerá do concerto que jurou a teus paes

for the LORD thy God is a merciful God; He will not fail thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which He swore unto them.

32 Porque, pergunta agora aos tempos passados, que te precederam desde o dia em que Deus creou o homem sobre a terra, desde uma extremidade do céu até á outra, se succedeu jámais coisa tão grande como esta, ou se se ouviu coisa como esta

For ask now of the days past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

33 Ou se algum povo ouviu a voz de Deus fallando do meio do fogo, como tu a ouviste, e ficou vivo?

Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?

34 Ou se um Deus intentou ir tomar para si um povo do meio de outro povo com provas, com signaes, e com milagres, e com peleja, e com mão forte, e com braço estendido, e com grandes espantos, conforme a tudo quanto o Senhor vosso Deus vos fez no Egypto aos vossos olhos?

Or hath God assayed to go and take Him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before thine eyes?

35 A ti te foi mostrado para que soubesses que o Senhor é Deus: nenhum outro ha senão elle.

Unto thee it was shown, that thou mightiest know that the LORD, He is God; there is none else beside Him.

36 Desde os céus te fez ouvir a sua voz, para te ensinar, e sobre a terra te mostrou o seu grande fogo, e ouviste as suas palavras do meio do fogo.

Out of heaven He made thee to hear His voice, that He might instruct thee; and upon earth He made thee to see His great fire; and thou didst hear His words out of the midst of the fire.

37 E, porquanto amava teus paes, e escolhera a sua semente depois d'elles, te tirou do Egypto diante de si, com a sua grande força:

And because He loved thy fathers, and chose their seed after them, and brought thee out with His presence, with His great power, out of Egypt,

38 Para lançar fóra de diante de ti gentes maiores e mais poderosas do que tu, para te introduzir n'ella, e te dar a sua terra por herança, como n'este dia se vê

to drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day;

39 Pelo que hoje saberás, e reflectirás no teu coração, que só o Senhor é Deus em cima no céu, e em baixo na terra; nenhum outro ha.

know this day, and lay it to thy heart, that the LORD, He is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath; there is none else.

40 E guardarás os teus estatutos e os seus mandamentos, que te ordeno hoje, para que bem te vá a ti, e a teus filhos depois de ti, e para que prolongues os dias na terra que o Senhor teu Deus te dá para todo o sempre.

And thou shalt keep His statutes, and His commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.

41 Então Moysés separou tres cidades d'áquem do Jordão, da banda do nascimento do sol

Then Moses separated three cities beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising;

42 Para que ali se acolhesse o homicida que de improviso matasse o seu proximo a quem d'antes não tivesse odio algum: e se acolhesse a uma d'estas cidades, e vivesse;

that the manslayer might flee thither, that slayeth his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in time past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:

43 A Bezer, no deserto, na terra plana, para os rubenitas; e a Ramoth, em Gilead, para os gaditas; e a Golan, em Basan, para os manassitas.

Bezer in the wilderness, in the table-land, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

44 Esta é pois a lei que Moysés propoz aos filhos de Israel.

And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel;

45 Estes são os testemunhos, e os estatutos, e os juizos, que Moysés fallou aos filhos de Israel, havendo saido do Egypto;

these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt;

46 D'aquem do Jordão, no valle defronte de Beth-peor, na terra de Sehon, rei dos amorrheos, que habitava em Hesbon: a quem feriu Moysés e os filhos de Israel, havendo elles saido do Egypto.

beyond the Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt;

47 E tomaram a sua terra em possessão, como tambem a terra de Og, rei de Basan, dois reis dos amorrheos, que estavam d'áquem do Jordão, da banda do nascimento do sol.

and they took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising;

48 Desde Aroer, que está á borda do ribeiro de Arnon, até ao monte de Sion. que é Hermon,

from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon, even unto mount Sion — the same is Hermon —

49 E toda a campina d'áquem do Jordão, da banda do oriente, até ao mar da campina, abaixo de Asdoth-pisga.

and all the Arabah beyond the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
