| داوود تمام افراد خود را جمع کرده، به واحدهای هزار نفره و صد نفره تقسیم کرد، و برای هر یک فرمانده‌ای تعیین نمود. | 1 |
And David numbered the people that [were] with him, and set over them captains of thousands and captains of hundreds.
| سپس آنها را در سه دستهٔ بزرگ اعزام کرد. دستهٔ اول را به یوآب داد، دومی را به برادر یوآب، ابیشای و دستهٔ سوم را به ایتای جتی. خود داوود هم می‌خواست به میدان جنگ برود، | 2 |
And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
| ولی افرادش گفتند: «تو نباید با ما بیایی! چون اگر ما عقب‌نشینی کرده، فرار کنیم و نصف افراد ما نیز بمیرند، برای دشمن اهمیتی ندارد. آنها تو را می‌خواهند. ارزش تو بیش از ارزش ده هزار نفر ماست. بهتر است در شهر بمانی تا اگر لازم شد نیروهای تازه نفس به کمک ما بفرستی.» | 3 |
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now [thou art] worth ten thousand of us: therefore now [it is] better that thou shouldst succor us out of the city.
| پادشاه پاسخ داد: «بسیار خوب، هر چه شما صلاح می‌دانید انجام می‌دهم.» پس او کنار دروازهٔ شهر ایستاد و تمام سربازان از برابرش گذشتند. | 4 |
And the king said to them, What seemeth to you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.
| پادشاه به یوآب و ابیشای و ایتای دستور داده، گفت: «به خاطر من به ابشالوم جوان صدمه‌ای نزنید.» این سفارش پادشاه را همهٔ سربازان شنیدند. | 5 |
And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, [Deal] gently for my sake with the young man, [even] with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
| افراد داوود با سربازان اسرائیلی در جنگل افرایم وارد جنگ شدند. | 6 |
So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;
| نیروهای داوود، سربازان اسرائیلی را شکست دادند. در آن روز، کشتار عظیمی شد و بیست هزار نفر جان خود را از دست دادند. | 7 |
Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand [men].
| جنگ به دهکده‌های اطراف نیز کشیده شد و کسانی که در جنگل از بین رفتند، تعدادشان بیشتر از کسانی بود که با شمشیر کشته شدند. | 8 |
For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
| در حین جنگ، ابشالوم ناگهان با عده‌ای از افراد داوود روبرو شد و در حالی که سوار بر قاطر بود، زیر شاخه‌های یک درخت بلوط بزرگ رفت و موهای سرش به شاخه‌ها پیچید. قاطر از زیرش گریخت و ابشالوم در هوا آویزان شد. | 9 |
And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was suspended between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that [was] under him went away.
| یکی از سربازان داوود او را دید و به یوآب خبر داد. | 10 |
And a certain man saw [it], and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.
| یوآب گفت: «تو ابشالوم را دیدی و او را نکشتی؟ اگر او را می‌کشتی ده مثقال نقره و یک کمربند به تو می‌دادم.» | 11 |
And Joab said to the man that told him, And behold, thou sawest [him], and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten [shekels] of silver, and a girdle.
| آن مرد پاسخ داد: «اگر هزار مثقال نقره هم به من می‌دادی این کار را نمی‌کردم؛ چون ما همه شنیدیم که پادشاه به تو و ابیشای و ایتای سفارش کرد و گفت: به خاطر من به ابشالوم جوان صدمه‌ای نزنید. | 12 |
And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand [shekels] of silver in my hand, [yet] would I not put forth my hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none [touch] the young man Absalom.
| اگر از فرمان پادشاه سرپیچی می‌کردم و پسرش را می‌کشتم، سرانجام پادشاه می‌فهمید چه کسی او را کشته، چون هیچ امری از او مخفی نمی‌ماند، آنگاه تو خود نیز مرا طرد می‌کردی!» | 13 |
Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against my own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldst have set thyself against [me].
| یوآب گفت: «دیگر بس است! وقتم را با این حرفهای پوچ نگیر!» پس خودش سه تیر گرفت و در قلب ابشالوم که هنوز زنده به درخت آویزان بود، فرو کرد. | 14 |
Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he [was] yet alive in the midst of the oak.
| سپس ده نفر از سربازان یوآب دور ابشالوم را گرفتند و او را کشتند. | 15 |
And ten young men that bore Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.
| آنگاه یوآب شیپور توقف جنگ را به صدا درآورد و سربازان او از تعقیب لشکر اسرائیل بازایستادند. | 16 |
And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel: for Joab restrained the people.
| جنازهٔ ابشالوم را در یک گودال در جنگل انداختند و روی آن را با تودهٔ بزرگی از سنگ پوشاندند. سربازان اسرائیلی نیز به شهرهای خود فرار کردند. | 17 |
And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.
| (ابشالوم در زمان حیات خود یک بنای یادبود در «درهٔ پادشاه» بر پا کرده بود، چون پسری نداشت تا اسمش را زنده نگه دارد؛ پس او اسم خود را بر آن بنای یادبود گذاشت و تا به امروز آن بنا «یادبود ابشالوم» نامیده می‌شود.) | 18 |
Now Absalom in his life-time had taken and raised for himself a pillar, which [is] in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called to this day, Absalom's place.
| آنگاه اخیمعص، پسر صادوق کاهن، به یوآب گفت: «بگذارید نزد داوود پادشاه بروم و به او مژده دهم که خداوند او را از شر دشمنانش نجات داده است.» | 19 |
Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and inform the king, how the LORD hath avenged himself of his enemies.
| یوآب گفت: «نه، برای پادشاه خبر مرگ پسرش مژده نیست. یک روز دیگر می‌توانی این کار را بکنی، ولی نه امروز.» | 20 |
And Joab said to him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.
| سپس یوآب به غلام سودانی خود گفت: «برو و آنچه دیدی به پادشاه بگو.» او هم تعظیم کرد و با سرعت رفت. | 21 |
Then said Joab to Cushi, Go, tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
| اما اخیمعص به یوآب گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم اجازه بده من هم بروم. هر چه می‌خواهد بشود.» یوآب جواب داد: «نه پسرم، لازم نیست بروی؛ چون خبر خوشی نداری که ببری.» | 22 |
Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But however, let me also, I pray thee, run after Cushi. And Joab said, Why wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
| ولی او با التماس گفت: «هر چه می‌خواهد باشد. بگذار من هم بروم.» بالاخره یوآب گفت: «بسیار خوب برو.» پس اخیمعص از راه میانبر رفت و پیش از آن غلام سودانی به شهر رسید. | 23 |
But however, [said he], let me run. And he said to him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and outran Cushi.
| داوود کنار دروازهٔ شهر نشسته بود. وقتی دیدبان به بالای حصار رفت تا دیدبانی کند، دید مردی تنها دوان‌دوان از دور به طرف شهر می‌آید. | 24 |
And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
| پس با صدای بلند به داوود خبر داد. پادشاه گفت: «اگر تنهاست، مژده می‌آورد.» در حالی که آن قاصد نزدیک می‌شد، | 25 |
And the watchman called, and told the king. And the king said, If he [is] alone [there is] tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.
| دیدبان یک نفر دیگر را هم دید که به طرف شهر می‌دود. پس فریاد زد: «یک نفر دیگر هم به دنبال او می‌آید!» پادشاه گفت: «او هم مژده می‌آورد.» | 26 |
And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called to the porter, and said, Behold [another] man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
| دیدبان گفت: «اولی شبیه اخیمعص پسر صادوق است.» پادشاه گفت: «او مرد خوبی است؛ بی‌شک خبر خوشی می‌آورد.» | 27 |
And the watchman said, I think the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He [is] a good man, and cometh with good news.
| اخیمعص به پادشاه نزدیک شد و پس از سلام و درود او را تعظیم کرده، گفت: «سپاس بر خداوند، خدایت که تو را بر دشمنانت پیروزی بخشید.» | 28 |
And Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed [be] the LORD thy God, who hath delivered up the men that raised their hand against my lord the king.
| پادشاه پرسید: «از ابشالوم جوان چه خبر؟ حالش خوب است؟» اخیمعص جواب داد: «وقتی یوآب به من گفت که به خدمت شما بیایم، صدای داد و فریاد بلند بود و من نتوانستم بفهمم چه اتفاقی افتاده است.» | 29 |
And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and [me] thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what [it was].
| پادشاه به او گفت: «کنار بایست و منتظر باش.» پس اخیمعص به کناری رفته در آنجا ایستاد. | 30 |
And the king said [to him], Turn aside, [and] stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.
| سپس آن غلام سودانی رسید و گفت: «من برای پادشاه خبری خوش دارم. خداوند امروز شما را از شر دشمنانتان نجات داده است.» | 31 |
And behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
| پادشاه پرسید: «از ابشالوم جوان چه خبر؟ آیا سالم است؟» آن مرد جواب داد: «امیدوارم همهٔ دشمنانتان به سرنوشت آن جوان دچار شوند!» | 32 |
And the king said to Cushi, [Is] the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, May the enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do [thee] hurt, be as [that] young man [is].
| غم وجود پادشاه را فرا گرفت. او در حالی که به اتاق خود که بالای دروازه قرار داشت می‌رفت، با صدای بلند گریه می‌کرد و می‌گفت: «ای پسرم ابشالوم، ای پسرم ابشالوم! کاش من به جای تو می‌مردم! ای ابشالوم، پسرم، پسرم!» | 33 |
And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! O that I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
