امثال 27

۱ 1 درباره فردا فخر منما، زیرا نمی دانی که روز چه خواهد زایید.

Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

۲ 2 دیگری تو را بستاید و نه دهان خودت، غریبی و نه لبهای تو.

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

۳ 3 سنگ سنگین است و ریگ ثقیل، اما خشم احمق از هر دوی آنها سنگینتر است.

A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than they both.

۴ 4 غضب ستم کیش است و خشم سیل، اماکیست که در برابر حسد تواند ایستاد.

Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?

۵ 5 تنبیه آشکار از محبت پنهان بهتر است.

Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.

۶ 6 جراحات دوست وفادار است، اما بوسه های دشمن افراط است.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are importunate.

۷ 7 شکم سیر از‌شان عسل کراهت دارد، امابرای شکم گرسنه هر تلخی شیرین است.

The full soul loatheth a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

۸ 8 کسی‌که از مکان خود آواره بشود، مثل گنجشکی است که از آشیانه‌اش آواره گردد.

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

۹ 9 روغن و عطر دل را شاد می‌کند، همچنان حلاوت دوست از مشورت دل.

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

۱۰ 10 دوست خود و دوست پدرت را ترک منما، و در روز مصیبت خود به خانه برادرت داخل مشو، زیرا که همسایه نزدیک از برادر دور بهتراست.

Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity; better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

۱۱ 11 ‌ای پسر من حکمت بیاموز و دل مرا شادکن، تا ملامت کنندگان خود را مجاب سازم.

My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that taunteth me.

۱۲ 12 مرد زیرک، بلا را می‌بیند و خویشتن رامخفی می‌سازد، اما جاهلان می‌گذرند و درعقوبت گرفتار می‌شوند.

A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the thoughtless pass on, and are punished.

۱۳ 13 جامه آن کس را بگیر که به جهت غریب ضامن است، و او را به رهن بگیر که ضامن بیگانگان است.

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge that is surety for an alien woman.

۱۴ 14 کسی‌که صبح زود برخاسته، دوست خودرا به آواز بلند برکت دهد، از برایش لعنت محسوب می‌شود.

He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

۱۵ 15 چکیدن دائمی آب در روز باران، و زن ستیزه‌جو مشابه‌اند.

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike;

۱۶ 16 هرکه او را باز‌دارد مثل کسی است که باد رانگاه دارد، یا روغن را که در دست راست خودگرفته باشد.

He that would hide her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand betrayeth itself.

۱۷ 17 آهن، آهن را تیز می‌کند، همچنین مرد روی دوست خود را تیز می‌سازد.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

۱۸ 18 هر‌که درخت انجیر را نگاه دارد میوه‌اش راخواهد خورد، و هر‌که آقای خود را ملازمت نماید محترم خواهد شد،

Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

۱۹ 19 چنانکه در آب صورت به صورت است، همچنان دل انسان به انسان.

As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

۲۰ 20 هاویه و ابدون سیر نمی شوند، همچنان چشمان انسان سیر نخواهند شد. (Sheol h7585)

The nether-world and Destruction are never satiated; so the eyes of man are never satiated. (Sheol h7585)

۲۱ 21 بوته برای نقره و کوره به جهت طلاست، همچنان انسان از دهان ستایش کنندگان خود(آزموده می‌شود).

The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tried by his praise.

۲۲ 22 احمق را میان بلغور در هاون با دسته بکوب، و حماقتش از آن بیرون نخواهد رفت.

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among groats, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

۲۳ 23 به حالت گله خود نیکو توجه نما، و دل خود را به رمه خود مشغول ساز،

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds;

۲۴ 24 زیرا که دولت دائمی نیست، و تاج هم نسلابعد نسل (پایدار) نی.

For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?

۲۵ 25 علف را می‌برند و گیاه سبز می‌روید، وعلوفه کوهها جمع می‌شود،

When the hay is mown, and the tender grass showeth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in;

۲۶ 26 بره‌ها برای لباس تو، و بزها به جهت اجاره زمین به‌کار می‌آیند،

The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field.

۲۷ 27 و شیر بزها برای خوراک تو و خوراک خاندانت، و معیشت کنیزانت کفایت خواهد کرد.

And there will be goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
