امثال 25

۱ 1 اینها نیز از امثال سلیمان است که مردان حزقیا، پادشاه یهودا آنها را نقل نمودند.

These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

۲ 2 مخفی داشتن امر جلال خدا است، و تفحص نمودن امر جلال پادشاهان است.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

۳ 3 آسمان را در بلندیش و زمین را در عمقش، ودل پادشاهان را تفتیش نتوان نمود.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

۴ 4 درد را از نقره دور کن، تا ظرفی برای زرگربیرون آید.

Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner;

۵ 5 شریران را از حضور پادشاه دور کن، تاکرسی او در عدالت پایدار بماند.

Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

۶ 6 در حضور پادشاه خویشتن را برمیفراز، و درجای بزرگان مایست،

Glorify not thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men;

۷ 7 زیرا بهتر است تو را گفته شود که اینجا بالابیا، از آنکه به حضور سروری که چشمانت او رادیده است تو را پایین برند.

For better is it that it be said unto thee: 'Come up hither', than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom thine eyes have seen.

۸ 8 برای نزاع به تعجیل بیرون مرو، مبادا درآخرش چون همسایه ات تو را خجل سازد، ندانی که چه باید کرد.

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

۹ 9 دعوی خود را با همسایه ات بکن، اما رازدیگری را فاش مساز،

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;

۱۰ 10 مبادا هر‌که بشنود تو را ملامت کند، وبدنامی تو رفع نشود.

Lest he that heareth it revile thee, and thine infamy turn not away.

۱۱ 11 سخنی که در محلش گفته شود، مثل سیبهای طلا در مرصعکاری نقره است.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

۱۲ 12 مودب حکیم برای گوش شنوا، مثل حلقه طلا و زیور زر خالص است.

As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

۱۳ 13 رسول امین برای فرستندگان خود، چون خنکی یخ در موسم حصاد می‌باشد، زیرا که جان آقایان خود را تازه می‌کند.

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to him that sendeth him; for he refresheth the soul of his master.

۱۴ 14 کسی‌که از بخششهای فریبنده خود فخرمی کند، مثل ابرها و باد بی‌باران است.

As vapours and wind without rain, so is he that boasteth himself of a false gift.

۱۵ 15 با تحمل داور را به رای خود توان آورد، وزبان ملایم، استخوان را می‌شکند.

By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

۱۶ 16 اگر عسل یافتی بقدر کفایت بخور، مبادا ازآن پر شده، قی کنی.

Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

۱۷ 17 پای خود را از زیاد رفتن به خانه همسایه ات باز دار، مبادا از تو سیر شده، از تونفرت نماید.

Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour's house; lest he be sated with thee, and hate thee.

۱۸ 18 کسی‌که درباره همسایه خود شهادت دروغ دهد، مثل تبرزین و شمشیر و تیر تیز است.

As a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, so is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.

۱۹ 19 اعتماد بر خیانتکار در روز تنگی، مثل دندان کرم زده و پای مرتعش می‌باشد.

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

۲۰ 20 سراییدن سرودها برای دلتنگ، مثل کندن جامه در وقت سرما و ریختن سرکه بر شوره است.

As one that taketh off a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.

۲۱ 21 اگر دشمن تو گرسنه باشد او را نان بخوران، و اگر تشنه باشد او را آب بنوشان،

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;

۲۲ 22 زیرا اخگرها بر سرش خواهی انباشت، وخداوند تو را پاداش خواهد داد.

For thou wilt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.

۲۳ 23 چنانکه باد شمال باران می‌آورد، همچنان زبان غیبتگو چهره را خشمناک می‌سازد.

The north wind bringeth forth rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.

۲۴ 24 ساکن بودن در گوشه پشت بام بهتر است ازبودن با زن جنگجو در خانه مشترک.

It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than in a house in common with a contentious woman.

۲۵ 25 خبر خوش از ولایت دور، مثل آب سردبرای جان تشنه است.

As cold waters to a faint soul, so is good news from a far country.

۲۶ 26 مرد عادل که پیش شریر خم شود، مثل چشمه گل آلود و منبع فاسد است.

As a troubled fountain, and a corrupted spring, so is a righteous man that giveth way before the wicked.

۲۷ 27 زیاد عسل خوردن خوب نیست، همچنان طلبیدن جلال خود جلال نیست.

It is not good to eat much honey; so for men to search out their own glory is not glory.

۲۸ 28 کسی‌که بر روح خود تسلط ندارد، مثل شهر منهدم و بی‌حصار است.

Like a city broken down and without a wall, so is he whose spirit is without restraint.
