امثال 22

۱ 1 نیک نامی از کثرت دولتمندی افضل است، و فیض از نقره و طلا بهتر.

A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.

۲ 2 دولتمند و فقیر با هم ملاقات می‌کنند، آفریننده هر دوی ایشان خداوند است.

The rich and the poor have this in common: YHWH is the maker of them all.

۳ 3 مرد زیرک، بلا را می‌بیند و خویشتن رامخفی می‌سازد و جاهلان می‌گذرند و در عقوبت گرفتار می‌شوند.

The shrewd see danger and take cover, but the naive keep on going and suffer for it.

۴ 4 جزای تواضع و خداترسی، دولت و جلال وحیات‌است.

The result of humility and the fear of YHWH is wealth, honor, and life.

۵ 5 خارها و دامها در راه کجروان است، اما هرکه جان خود را نگاه دارد از آنها دور می‌شود.

Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.

۶ 6 طفل را در راهی که باید برود تربیت نما، وچون پیر هم شود از آن انحراف نخواهد ورزید.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

۷ 7 توانگر بر فقیر تسلط دارد، و مدیون غلام طلب کار می‌باشد.

The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.

۸ 8 هر‌که ظلم بکارد بلا خواهد دروید، وعصای غضبش زایل خواهد شد.

He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will fail. God blesses a cheerful and generous person, but the vanity of his deeds he will bring to an end.

۹ 9 شخصی که نظر او باز باشد مبارک خواهدبود، زیرا که از نان خود به فقرا می‌دهد.

He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.

۱۰ 10 استهزاکننده را دور نما و نزاع رفع خواهدشد، و مجادله و خجالت ساکت خواهد گردید.

Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

۱۱ 11 هر‌که طهارت دل را دوست دارد، و لبهای ظریف دارد پادشاه دوست او می‌باشد.

He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king's friend.

۱۲ 12 چشمان خداوند معرفت را نگاه می‌دارد وسخنان خیانتکاران را باطل می‌سازد.

The eyes of YHWH watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

۱۳ 13 مرد کاهل می‌گوید شیر بیرون است، و درکوچه‌ها کشته می‌شوم.

The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets."

۱۴ 14 دهان زنان بیگانه چاه عمیق است، و هر‌که مغضوب خداوند باشد در آن خواهد افتاد.

The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under YHWH's wrath will fall into it.

۱۵ 15 حماقت در دل طفل بسته شده است، اماچوب تادیب آن را از او دور خواهد کرد.

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

۱۶ 16 هر‌که بر فقیر برای فایده خویش ظلم نماید، و هر‌که به دولتمندان ببخشد البته محتاج خواهد شد.

Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.

۱۷ 17 گوش خود را فرا داشته، کلام حکما رابشنو، و دل خود را به تعلیم من مایل گردان،

The words of the wise: Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your heart to my instruction.

۱۸ 18 زیرا پسندیده است که آنها را در دل خودنگاه داری، و بر لبهایت جمیع ثابت ماند،

For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.

۱۹ 19 تا اعتماد تو بر خداوند باشد. امروز تو راتعلیم دادم،

That your trust may be in YHWH, I teach you today, even you.

۲۰ 20 آیا امور شریف را برای تو ننوشتم؟ شامل بر مشورت معرفت،

Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,

۲۱ 21 تا قانون کلام راستی را اعلام نمایم، و توکلام راستی را نزد فرستندگان خود پس ببری؟

To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

۲۲ 22 فقیر را از آن جهت که ذلیل است تاراج منما، و مسکین را در دربار، ستم مرسان،

Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court;

۲۳ 23 زیرا خداوند دعوی ایشان را فیصل خواهدنمود، و جان تاراج کنندگان ایشان را به تاراج خواهد داد.

for YHWH will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

۲۴ 24 با مرد تندخو معاشرت مکن، و با شخص کج خلق همراه مباش،

Do not befriend a hot-tempered man, and do not associate with one who harbors anger:

۲۵ 25 مبادا راههای او را آموخته شوی و جان خود را در دام گرفتار سازی.

lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.

۲۶ 26 از‌جمله آنانی که دست می‌دهند مباش و نه از آنانی که برای قرضها ضامن می‌شوند.

Do not be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.

۲۷ 27 اگر چیزی نداری که ادا نمایی پس چرابستر تو را از زیرت بردارد.

If you do not have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

۲۸ 28 حد قدیمی را که پدرانت قرار داده اندمنتقل مساز.

Do not move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.

۲۹ 29 آیا مردی را که در شغل خویش ماهر باشدمی بینی؟ او در حضور پادشاهان خواهد ایستاد، پیش پست فطرتان نخواهد ایستاد.

Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men.
