یونس 4

۱ 1 اما این امر یونس را به غایت ناپسند آمد وغیظش افروخته شد،

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.

۲ 2 و نزد خداوند دعانموده، گفت: «آه‌ای خداوند، آیا این سخن من نبود حینی که در ولایت خود بودم و از این سبب به فرار کردن به ترشیش مبادرت نمودم زیرامی دانستم که تو خدای کریم و رحیم و دیر غضب و کثیر احسان هستی و از بلا پشیمان می‌شوی؟

He prayed to YHWH, and said, "Please, YHWH, wasn't this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.

۳ 3 پس حال‌ای خداوند جانم را از من بگیر زیرا که مردن از زنده ماندن برای من بهتر است.»

Therefore now, YHWH, take, I beg you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live."

۴ 4 خداوندگفت: «آیا صواب است که خشمناک شوی؟»

YHWH said, "Is it right for you to be angry?"

۵ 5 و یونس از شهر بیرون رفته، بطرف شرقی شهر نشست و در آنجا سایه بانی برای خودساخته زیر سایه‌اش نشست تا ببیند بر شهر‌چه واقع خواهد شد.

Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth, and sat under it in the shade, until he might see what would become of the city.

۶ 6 و یهوه خدا کدویی رویانید وآن را بالای یونس نمو داد تا بر سر وی سایه افکنده، او را از حزنش آسایش دهد و یونس ازکدو بی‌نهایت شادمان شد.

YHWH God prepared a vine, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the vine.

۷ 7 اما در فردای آن روزدر وقت طلوع فجر خدا کرمی پیدا کرد که کدو رازد و خشک شد.

But God prepared a worm at dawn the next day, and it chewed on the vine, so that it withered.

۸ 8 و چون آفتاب برآمد خدا بادشرقی گرم وزانید و آفتاب بر سر یونس تابید به حدی که بیتاب شده، برای خود مسالت نمود که بمیرد و گفت: «مردن از زنده ماندن برای من بهتراست.»

It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."

۹ 9 خدا به یونس جواب داد: «آیا صواب است که به جهت کدو غضبناک شوی؟» او گفت: «صواب است که تا به مرگ غضبناک شوم.»

God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?" He said, "I am right to be angry, even to death."

۱۰ 10 خداوند گفت: «دل تو برای کدو بسوخت که برای آن زحمت نکشیدی و آن را نمو ندادی که در یک شب بوجود آمد و در یک شب ضایع گردید.

YHWH said, "You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night.

۱۱ 11 و آیا دل من به جهت نینوا شهر بزرگ نسوزد که در آن بیشتر از صد و بیست هزار کس می‌باشند که در میان راست و چپ تشخیص نتوانند داد و نیز بهایم بسیار؟»

Shouldn't I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can't discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?"
