ایّوب 9

۱ 1 پس ایوب در جواب گفت:

Then Job answered and said,

۲ 2 «یقین می‌دانم که چنین است. لیکن انسان نزد خدا چگونه عادل شمرده شود؟

Of a truth I know that it is so: but how can man be just with God?

۳ 3 اگر بخواهد با وی منازعه نماید، یکی از هزار او را جواب نخواهد داد.

If he be pleased to contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

۴ 4 اودر ذهن حکیم و در قوت تواناست. کیست که با اومقاومت کرده و کامیاب شده باشد؟

[He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?

۵ 5 آنکه کوههارا منتقل می‌سازد و نمی فهمند، و در غضب خویش آنها را واژگون می‌گرداند،

Which removeth the mountains, and they know it not, when he overturneth them in his anger.

۶ 6 که زمین را ازمکانش می‌جنباند، و ستونهایش متزلزل می‌شود.

Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

۷ 7 که آفتاب را امر می‌فرماید و طلوع نمی کند وستارگان را مختوم می‌سازد.

Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

۸ 8 که به تنهایی، آسمانها را پهن می‌کند و بر موجهای دریامی خرامد.

Which alone stretcheth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

۹ 9 که دب اکبر و جبار و ثریا را آفرید، و برجهای جنوب را

Which maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

۱۰ 10 که کارهای عظیم بی‌قیاس را می‌کند و کارهای عجیب بی‌شمار را.

Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, marvelous things without number.

۱۱ 11 اینک از من می‌گذرد و او را نمی بینم، و عبور می‌کند واو را احساس نمی نمایم.

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

۱۲ 12 اینک او می‌رباید وکیست که او را منع نماید؟ و کیست که به او تواندگفت: چه می‌کنی؟

Behold, he seizeth [the prey], who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

۱۳ 13 خدا خشم خود را بازنمی دارد و مددکاران رحب زیر او خم می‌شوند.

God will not withdraw his anger; the helpers of Rahab do stoop under him.

۱۴ 14 «پس به طریق اولی، من کیستم که او راجواب دهم و سخنان خود را بگزینم تا با اومباحثه نمایم؟

How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words [to reason] with him?

۱۵ 15 که اگر عادل می‌بودم، او راجواب نمی دادم، بلکه نزد داور خود استغاثه می‌نمودم.

Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer; I would make supplication to mine adversary.

۱۶ 16 اگر او را می‌خواندم و مرا جواب می‌داد، باور نمی کردم که آواز مرا شنیده است.

If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he hearkened unto my voice.

۱۷ 17 زیرا که مرا به تندبادی خرد می‌کند و بی‌سبب، زخمهای مرا بسیار می‌سازد.

For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

۱۸ 18 مرا نمی گذارد که نفس بکشم، بلکه مرا به تلخیها پر می‌کند.

He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

۱۹ 19 اگردرباره قوت سخن گوییم، اینک او قادر است؛ واگر درباره انصاف، کیست که وقت را برای من تعیین کند؟

If [we speak] of the strength of the mighty, lo, [he is there]! and if of judgment, who will appoint me a time?

۲۰ 20 اگر عادل می‌بودم دهانم مرا مجرم می‌ساخت، و اگر کامل می‌بودم مرا فاسق می‌شمرد.

Though I be righteous, mine own mouth shall condemn me: though I be perfect, it shall prove me perverse.

۲۱ 21 اگر کامل هستم، خویشتن رانمی شناسم، و جان خود را مکروه می‌دارم.

I am perfect; I regard not myself; I despise my life.

۲۲ 22 این امر برای همه یکی است. بنابراین می‌گویم که اوصالح است و شریر را هلاک می‌سازد.

It is all one; therefore I say, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

۲۳ 23 اگرتازیانه ناگهان بکشد، به امتحان بی‌گناهان استهزامی کند.

If the scourge slay suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.

۲۴ 24 جهان به‌دست شریران داده شده است و روی حاکمانش را می‌پوشاند. پس اگر چنین نیست، کیست که می‌کند؟

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if [it be] not [he], who then is it?

۲۵ 25 و روزهایم از پیک تیزرفتار تندروتر است، می‌گریزد و نیکویی رانمی بیند.

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

۲۶ 26 مثل کشتیهای تیزرفتار می‌گریزد و مثل عقاب که بر شکار فرود آید.

They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that swoopeth on the prey.

۲۷ 27 اگر فکر کنم که ناله خود را فراموش کنم و ترش رویی خود رادور کرده، گشاده رو شوم،

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will put off my [sad] countenance, and be of good cheer:

۲۸ 28 از تمامی مشقتهای خود می‌ترسم و می‌دانم که مرا بی‌گناه نخواهی شمرد،

I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

۲۹ 29 چونکه ملزم خواهم شد. پس چرا بیجازحمت بکشم؟

I shall be condemned; why then do I labour in vain?

۳۰ 30 اگر خویشتن را به آب برف غسل دهم، و دستهای خود را به اشنان پاک کنم،

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

۳۱ 31 آنگاه مرا در لجن فرو می‌بری، و رختهایم مرامکروه می‌دارد.

Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

۳۲ 32 زیرا که او مثل من انسان نیست که او را جواب بدهم و با هم به محاکمه بیاییم.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

۳۳ 33 در میان ما حکمی نیست که بر هر دوی مادست بگذارد.

There is no daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

۳۴ 34 کاش که عصای خود را از من بردارد، و هیبت او مرا نترساند.

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his terror make me afraid:

۳۵ 35 آنگاه سخن می‌گفتم و از او نمی ترسیدم، لیکن من در خودچنین نیستم.

Then would I speak, and not fear him; for I am not so in myself.
