ایّوب 28

۱ 1 «یقین برای نقره معدنی است، و به جهت طلا جایی است که آن را قال می‌گذارند.

For there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.

۲ 2 آهن از خاک گرفته می‌شود و مس ازسنگ گداخته می‌گردد.

Iron is taken out of the dust, and brass is molten out of the stone.

۳ 3 مردم برای تاریکی حدمی گذارند و تا نهایت تمام تفحص می‌نمایند، تابه سنگهای ظلمت غلیظ و سایه موت.

Man setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out to the furthest bound the stones of thick darkness and of the shadow of death.

۴ 4 کانی دور از ساکنان زمین می‌کنند، از راه گذریان فراموش می‌شوند و دور از مردمان آویخته شده، به هر طرف متحرک می‌گردند.

He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; they are forgotten of the foot that passeth by; they hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.

۵ 5 از زمین نان بیرون می‌آید، و ژرفیهایش مثل آتش سرنگون می‌شود.

As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

۶ 6 سنگهایش مکان یاقوت کبود است. وشمشهای طلا دارد.

The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.

۷ 7 آن راه را هیچ مرغ شکاری نمی داند، و چشم شاهین آن را ندیده است،

That path no bird of prey knoweth, neither hath the falcon's eye seen it;

۸ 8 وجانوران درنده بر آن قدم نزده‌اند، و شیر غران برآن گذر نکرده.

The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor hath the lion passed thereby.

۹ 9 دست خود را به سنگ خارا درازمی کنند، و کوهها را از بیخ برمی کنند.

He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.

۱۰ 10 نهرها ازصخره‌ها می‌کنند و چشم ایشان هر چیز نفیس رامی بیند.

He cutteth out channels among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.

۱۱ 11 نهرها را از تراوش می‌بندند وچیزهای پنهان شده را به روشنایی بیرون می‌آورند.

He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

۱۲ 12 اما حکمت از کجا پیدا می‌شود؟ وجای فطانت کجا است؟

But wisdom, where shall it be found? And where is the place of understanding?

۱۳ 13 انسان قیمت آن رانمی داند و در زمین زندگان پیدا نمی شود.

Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

۱۴ 14 لجه می‌گوید که در من نیست، و دریا می‌گوید که نزدمن نمی باشد.

The deep saith: 'It is not in me'; and the sea saith: 'It is not with me.'

۱۵ 15 زر خالص به عوضش داده نمی شود و نقره برای قیمتش سنجیده نمی گردد.

It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

۱۶ 16 به زر خالص اوفیر آن را قیمت نتوان کرد، و نه به جزع گرانبها و یاقوت کبود.

It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

۱۷ 17 با طلا و آبگینه آن را برابر نتوان کرد، و زیورهای طلای خالص بدل آن نمی شود.

Gold and glass cannot equal it; neither shall the exchange thereof be vessels of fine gold.

۱۸ 18 مرجان و بلور مذکورنمی شود و قیمت حکمت از لعل گرانتر است.

No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

۱۹ 19 زبرجد حبش با آن مساوی نمی شود و به زرخالص سنجیده نمی گردد.

The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

۲۰ 20 پس حکمت ازکجا می‌آید؟ و مکان فطانت کجا است؟

Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?

۲۱ 21 ازچشم تمامی زندگان پنهان است، و از مرغان هوامخفی می‌باشد.

Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

۲۲ 22 ابدون و موت می‌گویند که آوازه آن را به گوش خود شنیده‌ایم.

Destruction and Death say: 'We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.'

۲۳ 23 خدا راه آن را درک می‌کند و او مکانش را می‌داند.

God understandeth the way thereof, and He knoweth the place thereof.

۲۴ 24 زیراکه او تا کرانه های زمین می‌نگرد و آنچه را که زیرتمامی آسمان است می‌بیند.

For He looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

۲۵ 25 تا وزن از برای بادقرار دهد، و آبها را به میزان بپیماید.

When He maketh a weight for the wind, and meteth out the waters by measure.

۲۶ 26 هنگامی که قانونی برای باران قرار داد، و راهی برای سهام رعد،

When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the storm of thunders;

۲۷ 27 آنگاه آن را دید و آن را بیان کرد. آن رامهیا ساخت و هم تفتیشش نمود.

Then did He see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.

۲۸ 28 و به انسان گفت: اینک ترس خداوند حکمت است، و ازبدی اجتناب نمودن، فطانت می‌باشد.»

And unto man He said: 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.'
