ارمیا 18

۱ 1 کلامی که از جانب خداوند به ارمیا نازل شده، گفت:

The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord, saying,

۲ 2 «برخیز و به خانه کوزه‌گر فرود آی که در آنجا کلام خود را به تو خواهم شنوانید.»

Arise, and go downe into the potters house, and there shall I shewe thee my words.

۳ 3 پس به خانه کوزه‌گر فرود شدم و اینک او برچرخها کار می‌کرد.

Then I went downe to the potters house, and behold, he wrought a worke on the wheeles.

۴ 4 و ظرفی که از گل می‌ساخت در دست کوزه‌گر ضایع شد پس دوباره ظرفی دیگر از آن ساخت بطوری که به نظرکوزه‌گر پسند آمد که بسازد.

And the vessell that he made of clay, was broken in the hand of the potter. so he returned, and made it another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

۵ 5 آنگاه کلام خداوندبه من نازل شده، گفت:

Then the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

۶ 6 «خداوند می‌گوید: ای خاندان اسرائیل آیا من مثل این کوزه‌گر با شماعمل نتوانم نمود زیرا چنانکه گل در دست کوزه‌گر است، همچنان شما‌ای خاندان اسرائیل در دست من می‌باشید.

O house of Israel, cannot I doe with you as this potter, sayth the Lord? beholde, as the clay is in the potters hande, so are you in mine hande, O house of Israel.

۷ 7 هنگامی که درباره امتی یا مملکتی برای کندن و منهدم ساختن و هلاک نمودن سخنی گفته باشم،

I will speake suddenly against a nation or against a kingdome to plucke it vp, and to roote it out and to destroy it.

۸ 8 اگر آن امتی که درباره ایشان گفته باشم از شرارت خویش بازگشت نمایند، آنگاه از آن بلایی که به آوردن آن قصدنموده‌ام خواهم برگشت.

But if this nation, against whom I haue pronounced, turne from their wickednesse, I will repent of the plague that I thought to bring vpon them.

۹ 9 و هنگامی که درباره امتی یامملکتی به جهت بنا کردن و غرس نمودن سخن گفته باشم،

And I wil speake suddenly concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdome to builde it and to plant it.

۱۰ 10 اگر ایشان در نظر من شرارت ورزند و قول مرا نشنوند آنگاه از آن نیکویی که گفته باشم که برای ایشان بکنم خواهم برگشت.

But if it do euill in my sight and heare not my voyce, I will repent of ye good that I thought to do for them.

۱۱ 11 الان مردان یهودا و ساکنان اورشلیم را خطاب کرده، بگو که خداوند چنین می‌گوید: اینک من به ضد شما بلایی مهیا می‌سازم و قصدی به خلاف شما می‌نمایم. پس شما هر کدام از راه زشت خودبازگشت نمایید و راهها و اعمال خود را اصلاح کنید.

Speake thou nowe therefore vnto the men of Iudah, and to the inhabitants of Ierusalem, saying, Thus saith ye Lord, Behold, I prepare a plague for you, and purpose a thing against you: returne you therefore euery one from his euill way, and make your wayes and your workes good.

۱۲ 12 اما ایشان خواهند گفت: امید نیست زیراکه افکار خود را پیروی خواهیم نمود و هر کدام موافق سرکشی دل شریر خود رفتار خواهیم کرد.

But they sayde desperately, Surely wee will walke after our owne imaginations, and doe euery man after the stubburnnesse of his wicked heart.

۱۳ 13 بنابراین خداوند چنین می‌گوید: در میان امت‌ها سوال کنید کیست که مثل این چیزها راشنیده باشد؟ دوشیزه اسرائیل کار بسیار زشت کرده است.

Therefore thus saith the Lord, Aske now among the heathen, who hath heard such thinges? the virgin of Israel hath done very filthily.

۱۴ 14 آیا برف لبنان از صخره صحرا بازایستد یا آبهای سرد که از جای دور جاری می‌شود خشک گردد؟

Will a man forsake the snowe of Lebanon, which commeth from the rocke of the fielde? or shall the colde flowing waters, that come from another place, be forsaken?

۱۵ 15 زیرا که قوم من مرافراموش کرده برای اباطیل بخور می‌سوزانند وآنها ایشان را از راههای ایشان یعنی از طریق های قدیم می‌لغزانند تا در کوره راهها به راههایی که ساخته نشده است راه بروند.

Because my people hath forgotten me, and haue burnt incense to vanitie, and their prophets haue caused them to stumble in their wayes from the auncient wayes, to walke in the pathes and way that is not troden,

۱۶ 16 تا زمین خود رامایه حیرت و سخریه ابدی بگردانند به حدی که هر‌که از آن گذر کند متحیر شده، سر خود راخواهد جنبانید.

To make their land desolate and a perpetual derision, so that euery one that passeth thereby, shalbe astonished and wagge his head,

۱۷ 17 من مثل باد شرقی ایشان را ازحضور دشمنان پراکنده خواهم ساخت و در روزمصیبت ایشان پشت را به ایشان نشان خواهم دادو نه رو را.»

I will scatter them with an East winde before the enemie: I will shewe them the backe, and not the face in the day of their destruction.

۱۸ 18 آنگاه گفتند: «بیایید تا به ضد ارمیا تدبیرهانماییم زیرا که شریعت از کاهنان و مشورت ازحکیمان و کلام از انبیا ضایع نخواهد شد پس بیایید تا او را به زبان خود بزنیم و هیچ سخنش راگوش ندهیم.»

Then sayde they, Come, and let vs imagine some deuice against Ieremiah: for the Lawe shall not perish from the Priest, nor counsell from the wise, nor the worde from the Prophet: come, and let vs smite him with the tongue, and let vs not giue heede to any of his words.

۱۹ 19 ‌ای خداوند مرا گوش بده و آواز دشمنان مرا بشنو!

Hearken vnto mee, O Lord, and heare the voyce of them that contend with me.

۲۰ 20 آیا بدی به عوض نیکویی ادا خواهدشد زیرا که حفره‌ای برای جان من کنده‌اند. بیادآور که چگونه به حضور تو ایستاده بودم تا درباره ایشان سخن نیکو گفته، حدت خشم تو را ازایشان بگردانم.

Shall euill be recompensed for good? for they haue digged a pit for my soule: remember that I stood before thee, to speake good for the, and to turne away thy wrath from them.

۲۱ 21 پس پسران ایشان را به قحطبسپار و ایشان را به دم شمشیر تسلیم نما و زنان ایشان، بی‌اولاد و بیوه گردند و مردان ایشان به سختی کشته شوند و جوانان ایشان، در جنگ به شمشیر مقتول گردند.

Therefore, deliuer vp their children to famine, and let them drop away by the force of the sworde, and let their wiues be robbed of their children, and be widowes: and let their husbands be put to death, and let their yong men be slayne by the sword in the battell.

۲۲ 22 و چون فوجی بر ایشان ناگهان بیاوری نعره‌ای از خانه های ایشان شنیده شود زیرا به جهت گرفتار کردنم حفره‌ای کنده اندو دامها برای پایهایم پنهان نموده.

Let the crye bee heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring an hoste suddenly vpon them: for they haue digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feete.

۲۳ 23 اما تو‌ای خداوند تمامی مشورتهایی را که ایشان به قصد جان من نموده‌اند می‌دانی. پس عصیان ایشان رامیامرز و گناه ایشان را از نظر خویش محو مسازبلکه ایشان به حضور تو لغزانیده شوند و در حین غضب خویش، با ایشان عمل نما.

Yet Lord thou knowest al their counsel against me tendeth to death: forgiue not their iniquitie, neither put out their sinne from thy sight, but let them be ouerthrowen before thee: deale thus with them in the time of thine anger.
