جامعه 5

۱ 1 چون به خانه خدا بروی، پای خود را نگاه دار زیرا تقرب جستن به جهت استماع، ازگذرانیدن قربانی های احمقان بهتر است، چونکه ایشان نمی دانند که عمل بد می‌کنند.

Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.

۲ 2 با دهان خود تعجیل منما و دلت برای گفتن سخنی به حضور خدا نشتابد زیرا خدا در آسمان است و تو بر زمین هستی پس سخنانت کم باشد.

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter [any] thing before God: for God [is] in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

۳ 3 زیراخواب از کثرت مشقت پیدا می‌شود و آواز احمق از کثرت سخنان.

For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice [is known] by a multitude of words.

۴ 4 چون برای خدا نذر نمایی دروفای آن تاخیر منما زیرا که او از احمقان خشنودنیست؛ پس به آنچه نذر کردی وفا نما.

When thou vowest a vow to God, defer not to pay it; for [he hath] no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

۵ 5 بهتراست که نذر ننمایی از اینکه نذر نموده، وفا نکنی.

Better [is it] that thou shouldst not vow, than that thou shouldst vow and not pay.

۶ 6 مگذار که دهانت جسد تو را خطاکار سازد و درحضور فرشته مگو که این سهو شده است. چراخدا به‌سبب قول تو غضبناک شده، عمل دستهایت را باطل سازد؟

Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it [was] an error: why should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?

۷ 7 زیرا که این از کثرت خوابها و اباطیل و کثرت سخنان است؛ لیکن تو ازخدا بترس.

For in the multitude of dreams and many words [there are] also [divers] vanities: but fear thou God.

۸ 8 اگر ظلم را بر فقیران و برکندن انصاف وعدالت را در کشوری بینی، از این امر مشوش مباش زیرا آنکه بالاتر از بالا است ملاحظه می‌کندو حضرت اعلی فوق ایشان است.

If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perversion of judgment and justice in a province, wonder not at the matter: for [he that is] higher than the highest regardeth; and [there are] higher than they.

۹ 9 و منفعت زمین برای همه است بلکه مزرعه، پادشاه را نیزخدمت می‌کند.

Moreover, the profit of the earth is for all: the king [himself] is served by the field.

۱۰ 10 آنکه نقره را دوست دارد ازنقره سیر نمی شود، و هر‌که توانگری را دوست دارد از دخل سیر نمی شود. این نیز بطالت است.

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this [is] also vanity.

۱۱ 11 چون نعمت زیاده شود، خورندگانش زیادمی شوند؛ و به جهت مالکش چه منفعت است غیراز آنکه آن را به چشم خود می‌بیند؟

When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good [is there] to the owners of them, saving the beholding [of them] with their eyes?

۱۲ 12 خواب عمله شیرین است خواه کم و خواه زیاد بخورد، اما سیری مرد دولتمند او رانمی گذارد که بخوابد.

The sleep of a laboring man [is] sweet, whether he eateth little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

۱۳ 13 بلایی سخت بود که آن را زیر آفتاب دیدم یعنی دولتی که صاحبش آن را برای ضرر خود نگاه داشته بود.

There is a grievous evil [which] I have seen under the sun, [namely], riches kept for the owners of them to their hurt.

۱۴ 14 و آن دولت از حادثه بد ضایع شد و پسری آورد اما چیزی در دست خودنداشت.

But those riches perish by evil labor: and he begetteth a son, and [there is] nothing in his hand.

۱۵ 15 چنانکه از رحم مادرش بیرون آمد، همچنان برهنه به حالتی که آمد خواهد برگشت واز مشقت خود چیزی نخواهد یافت که به‌دست خود ببرد.

As he came into the world, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

۱۶ 16 و این نیز بلای سخت است که از هرجهت چنانکه آمد همچنین خواهد رفت؛ و او راچه منفعت خواهد بود از اینکه در‌پی باد زحمت کشیده است؟

And this also [is] a grievous evil, [that] in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath labored for the wind?

۱۷ 17 و تمامی ایام خود را در تاریکی می‌خورد و با بیماری و خشم، بسیار محزون می‌شود.

All his days also he eateth in darkness, and [he hath] much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

۱۸ 18 اینک آنچه من دیدم که خوب و نیکومی باشد، این است که انسان در تمامی ایام عمرخود که خدا آن را به او می‌بخشد بخورد و بنوشدو از تمامی مشقتی که زیر آسمان می‌کشد به نیکویی تمتع ببرد زیرا که نصیبش همین است.

Behold [that] which I have seen: [it is] good and comely [for one] to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it [is] his portion.

۱۹ 19 و نیز هر انسانی که خدا دولت و اموال به اوببخشد و او را قوت عطا فرماید که از آن بخورد ونصیب خود را برداشته، از محنت خود مسرورشود، این بخشش خدا است.

Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this [is] the gift of God.

۲۰ 20 زیرا روزهای عمر خود را بسیار به یاد نمی آورد چونکه خدا اورا از شادی دلش اجابت فرموده است.

For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth [him] in the joy of his heart.
