دوم سموئیل 18

۱ 1 و داود قومی را که همراهش بودند، سان دید، و سرداران هزاره و سرداران صده برایشان تعیین نمود.

And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.

۲ 2 و داود قوم را روانه نمود، ثلثی به‌دست یوآب و ثلثی به‌دست ابیشای ابن صرویه، برادر یوآب، و ثلثی به‌دست اتای جتی. و پادشاه به قوم گفت: «من نیز البته همراه شما می‌آیم.»

And David sent forth the people, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.

۳ 3 اما قوم گفتند: «تو همراه مانخواهی آمد زیرا اگر ما فرار کنیم درباره ما فکرنخواهند کرد و اگر نصف ما بمیریم برای ما فکرنخواهند کرد و حال تو مثل ده هزار نفر ما هستی، پس الان بهتر این است که ما را از شهر امداد کنی.»

But the people said, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but thou art worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that thou be ready to succor us out of the city.

۴ 4 پادشاه به ایشان گفت: «آنچه در نظر شما پسند آید، خواهم کرد.» و پادشاه به‌جانب دروازه ایستاده بود، و تمامی قوم با صده‌ها و هزاره هابیرون رفتند.

And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate-side, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.

۵ 5 و پادشاه یوآب و ابیشای و اتای راامر فرموده، گفت: «به‌خاطر من بر ابشالوم جوان به رفق رفتار نمایید. و چون پادشاه جمیع سرداران را درباره ابشالوم فرمان داد، تمامی قوم شنیدند.

And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

۶ 6 پس قوم به مقابله اسرائیل به صحرا بیرون رفتند و جنگ در جنگل افرایم بود.

So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.

۷ 7 و قوم اسرائیل در آنجا از حضور بندگان داود شکست یافتند، و در آن روز کشتار عظیمی در آنجا شد وبیست هزار نفر کشته شدند.

And the people of Israel were smitten there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.

۸ 8 و جنگ در آنجا برروی تمامی زمین منتشر شد و در آن روز آنانی که از جنگل هلاک گشتند، بیشتر بودند از آنانی که به شمشیر کشته شدند.

For the battle was there spread over the face of all the country; and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

۹ 9 و ابشالوم به بندگان داود برخورد و ابشالوم بر قاطر سوار بود و قاطر زیر شاخه های پیچیده شده بلوط بزرگی درآمد، و سر او در میان بلوطگرفتار شد، به طوری که در میان آسمان و زمین آویزان گشت و قاطری که زیرش بود، بگذشت.

And Absalom chanced to meet the servants of David. And Absalom was riding upon his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between heaven and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.

۱۰ 10 و شخصی آن را دیده، به یوآب خبر رسانید وگفت: «اینک ابشالوم را دیدم که در میان درخت بلوط آویزان است.»

And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.

۱۱ 11 و یوآب به آن شخصی که او را خبر داد، گفت: «هان تو دیده‌ای، پس چرا اورا در آنجا به زمین نزدی؟ و من ده مثقال نقره وکمربندی به تو می‌دادم.»

And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest it, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten [pieces of] silver, and a girdle.

۱۲ 12 آن شخص به یوآب گفت: «اگر هزار مثقال نقره به‌دست من می‌رسیددست خود را بر پسر پادشاه دراز نمی کردم، زیراکه پادشاه تو را و ابیشای و اتای را به سمع ما امرفرموده، گفت: «زنهار هر یکی از شما درباره ابشالوم جوان باحذر باشید.

And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand [pieces of] silver in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

۱۳ 13 والا بر جان خودظلم می‌کردم چونکه هیچ امری از پادشاه مخفی نمی ماند، و خودت به ضد من بر می‌خاستی.»

Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hid from the king), then thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against [me].

۱۴ 14 آنگاه یوآب گفت: «نمی توانم با تو به اینطورتاخیر نمایم.» پس سه تیر به‌دست خود گرفته، آنها را به دل ابشالوم زد حینی که او هنوز در میان بلوط زنده بود.

Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

۱۵ 15 و ده جوان که سلاحداران یوآب بودند دور ابشالوم را گرفته، او را زدند وکشتند.

And ten young men that bare Joab’s armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

۱۶ 16 و چون یوآب کرنا را نواخت، قوم از تعاقب نمودن اسرائیل برگشتند، زیرا که یوآب قوم رامنع نمود.

And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab held back the people.

۱۷ 17 و ابشالوم را گرفته، او را در حفره بزرگ که در جنگل بود، انداختند، و بر او توده بسیار بزرگ از سنگها افراشتند، و جمیع اسرائیل هر یک به خیمه خود فرار کردند.

And they took Absalom, and cast him into the great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

۱۸ 18 اما ابشالوم در حین حیات خود بنایی را که در وادی ملک است برای خود برپا کرد، زیرا گفت پسری ندارم که از او اسم من مذکور بماند، و آن بنا را به اسم خود مسمی ساخت. پس تا امروز ید ابشالوم خوانده می‌شود.

Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the king’s dale; for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name; and it is called Absalom’s monument, unto this day.

۱۹ 19 و اخیمعص بن صادوق گفت: «حال بروم ومژده به پادشاه برسانم که خداوند انتقام او را ازدشمنانش کشیده است.»

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that Jehovah hath avenged him of his enemies.

۲۰ 20 یوآب او را گفت: «توامروز صاحب بشارت نیستی، اما روز دیگربشارت خواهی برد و امروز مژده نخواهی دادچونکه پسر پادشاه مرده است.»

And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not be the bearer of tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day; but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king’s son is dead.

۲۱ 21 و یوآب به کوشی گفت: «برو و از آنچه دیده‌ای به پادشاه خبر برسان.» و کوشی یوآب را تعظیم نموده، دوید.

Then said Joab to the Cushite, Go, tell the king what thou hast seen. And the Cushite bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.

۲۲ 22 و اخیمعص بن صادوق، بار دیگر به یوآب گفت: «هرچه بشود، ملتمس اینکه من نیزدر عقب کوشی بدوم.» یوآب گفت: «ای پسرم چرا باید بدوی چونکه بشارت نداری که ببری؟»

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But come what may, let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou wilt have no reward for the tidings?

۲۳ 23 گفت: «هرچه بشود، بدوم.» او وی را گفت: «بدو.» پس اخیمعص به راه وادی دویده، ازکوشی سبقت جست.

But come what may, [said he], I will run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.

۲۴ 24 و داود در میان دو دروازه نشسته بود ودیده بان بر پشت بام دروازه به حصار برآمد وچشمان خود را بلند کرده، مردی را دید که اینک به تنهایی می‌دود.

Now David was sitting between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.

۲۵ 25 و دیده بان آواز کرده، پادشاه را خبر داد و پادشاه گفت: «اگر تنهاست بشارت می‌آورد.» و او می‌آمد و نزدیک می‌شد.

And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.

۲۶ 26 ودیده بان، شخص دیگر را دید که می‌دود ودیده بان به دربان آواز داده، گفت: «شخصی به تنهایی می‌دود.» و پادشاه گفت: «او نیز بشارت می‌آورد.»

And the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold, [another] man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.

۲۷ 27 و دیده بان گفت: «دویدن اولی رامی بینم که مثل دویدن اخیمعص بن صادوق است.» پادشاه گفت: «او مرد خوبی است و خبرخوب می‌آورد.»

And the watchman said, I think the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.

۲۸ 28 و اخیمعص ندا کرده، به پادشاه گفت: «سلامتی است.» و پیش پادشاه رو به زمین افتاده، گفت: «یهوه خدای تو متبارک باد که مردمانی که دست خود را بر آقایم پادشاه بلند کرده بودند، تسلیم کرده است.»

And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, Blessed be Jehovah thy God, who hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

۲۹ 29 پادشاه گفت: «آیا ابشالوم جوان به سلامت است؟ و اخیمعص در جواب گفت: «چون یوآب، بنده پادشاه و بنده تو رافرستاد، هنگامه عظیمی دیدم که ندانستم که چه بود.»

And the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king’s servant, even me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.

۳۰ 30 و پادشاه گفت: «بگرد و اینجا بایست.» واو به آن طرف شده، بایستاد.

And the king said, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.

۳۱ 31 و اینک کوشی رسید و کوشی گفت: «برای آقایم، پادشاه، بشارت است، زیرا خداوند امروزانتقام تو را از هر‌که با تو مقاومت می‌نمود، کشیده است.»

And, behold, the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, Tidings for my lord the king; for Jehovah hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.

۳۲ 32 و پادشاه به کوشی گفت: «آیا ابشالوم جوان به سلامت است؟» کوشی گفت: «دشمنان آقایم، پادشاه، و هر‌که برای ضرر تو برخیزد، مثل آن جوان باشد.»

And the king said unto the Cushite, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And the Cushite answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise up against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.

۳۳ 33 پس پادشاه، بسیار مضطرب شده، به بالاخانه دروازه برآمد و می‌گریست و چون می‌رفت، چنین می‌گفت: «ای پسرم ابشالوم! ای پسرم! پسرم ابشالوم! کاش که به‌جای تومی مردم، ای ابشالوم پسرم‌ای پسر من!»

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
