1 Til songmeisteren, med strengleik; ein salme av Asaf, ein song. Gud er kjend i Juda, i Israel er hans namn stort.

People in Judah know God; the Israeli people honor him [MTY].

2 Han bygde si hytta i Salem og sin bustad på Sion.

His home is in Jerusalem; he lives on Zion [Hill].

3 Der braut han sund ljoni frå bogen, skjold og sverd og ufred. (Sela)

There he broke the flaming arrows [that his enemies shot], [and he also broke] their shields and swords and other weapons that they used in battles.

4 Strålande er du, herleg framfor rans-bergi.

God, you are glorious! You are like a king [as you return from] the mountains [where you defeated your enemies].

5 Dei hjarte-sterke menner hev vorte plundra, dei søv sin svevn, og ingen av kjemporne fann sine hender.

Their brave soldiers [were killed, and then those who killed them] took away everything that those soldiers had. Those enemies died [EUP], [so] they were unable to use their weapons [any more]!

6 Ved ditt trugsmål, Jakobs Gud, vart både vogn og hest djupt svævde.

When you, the God whom Jacob [worshiped], rebuked [your enemies], [the result was that their] horses and their riders fell down dead.

7 Du - skræmeleg er du, og kven kann standa for di åsyn når du vert vreid?

But you cause everyone to be afraid. When you are angry [and you punish people], no one can [RHQ] endure it.

8 Frå himmelen let du høyrast dom; jordi ræddast og vart still

From heaven you proclaimed that you would judge people, [and then everyone on] the earth was afraid and did not say [anything more],

9 då Gud stod upp til dom, til å frelsa alle spaklyndte på jordi. (Sela)

when you arose to declare that you would punish [wicked people] and rescue all those whom they had oppressed.

10 For manne-harm må prisa deg, med endå større harm gyrder du deg.

When [you punish those] with whom you are angry, your people will praise you, and [your enemies] who (survive/are not killed) will worship you on your festival days.

11 Gjer lovnad og haldt det de lova til Herren, dykkar Gud! Alle kring honom skal føra gåvor til den skræmelege.

[So] give to Yahweh the offerings that you promised to give to him; all the people of nearby people-groups should also bring gifts to him, the one who is awesome.

12 Han staggar stormodet hjå hovdingar, han er skræmeleg for kongarne på jordi.

He humbles [IDM] princes, and [even] causes [great] kings to be terrified.
