4 Mosebok 31
1 Og Herren tala til Moses, og sagde:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 «Du skal taka hemn for det som midjanitarne hev gjort Israels-borni; sidan skal du fara til federne dine.»
Avenge the wrongs of the children of Israel on the Madianites, and afterwards thou shalt be added to thy people.
3 Då tala Moses til folket, og sagde: «Lat nokre av mannskapet dykkar bu seg til herferd! Dei skal koma yver midjanitarne, og føra Herrens hemn yver Midjan.
And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm some of you, and set yourselves in array before the Lord against Madian, to inflict vengeance on Madian from the Lord.
4 Tusund mann frå kvar av Israels-ætterne skal de senda ut i herferd.»
Send a thousand of each tribe from all the tribes of the children of Israel to set themselves in array.
5 Av dei mange tusund i Israel baud dei då ut tusund mann frå kvar ætt, tolv tusund herbudde menner.
And they numbered of the thousands of Israel a thousand of [each] tribe, twelve thousands; [these were] armed for war.
6 Deim sende Moses ut i herferd, tusund mann frå kvar ætt, og med deim sende han Pinehas, son åt Eleazar, øvstepresten; han hadde med seg dei heilage gognerne og stridslurarne.
And Moses sent them away a thousand of every tribe with their forces, and Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest: and the holy instruments, and the signal trumpets [were] in their hands.
7 Og dei gjorde ei herferd mot Midjan, so som Herren hadde sagt med Moses, og slo i hel alle karmenner.
And they set themselves in array against Madian, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew every male.
8 Og millom deim som dei drap, var kongarne i Midjan, Evi og Rekem og Sur og Hur og Reba, dei fem Midjans-kongarne; og Bileam, son åt Beor, fall og for sverdet deira.
And they slew the kings of Madian together with their slain [subjects]; even Evi and Rocon, and Sur, and Ur, and Roboc, five kings of Madian; and they slew with the sword Balaam the son of Beor with their [other] slain.
9 So tok dei konorne og borni åt midjanitarne og klyvdyri og bufeet deira og alt det dei åtte;
And they made a prey of the women of Madian, and their store, and their cattle, and all their possessions: and they spoiled their forces.
10 og alle borgarne i det landet dei hadde slege seg ned i og alle tjeldlægri deira, sette dei eld på.
And they burnt with fire all their cities in the places of their habitation and they burnt their villages with fire.
11 Og alt herfanget og alt folket og feet dei hadde teke,
And they took all their plunder, and all their spoils, both man and beast.
12 førde dei dit som Moses og Eleazar, øvstepresten, og heile Israels-lyden var - til lægret på Moabmoarne ved Jordan, midt for Jeriko - både fangarne og feet og alt det andre herfanget.
And they brought to Moses and to Eleazar the priest, and to all the children of Israel, the captives, and the spoils, and the plunder, to the camp to Araboth Moab, which is at Jordan by Jericho.
13 Og Moses og Eleazar, øvstepresten, og alle dei høgste i lyden gjekk til møtes med deim utanfor lægret.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the rulers of the synagogue went forth out of the camp to meet them.
14 Men Moses var vond på hovdingarne som kom heim frå stridsferdi, både dei som stod yver tusund og dei som stod yver hundrad mann,
And Moses was angry with the captains of the host, the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds who came from the battle-array.
15 og han sagde til deim: «Hev de spart alle kvinnorne?
And Moses said to them, Why have ye saved every female alive?
16 Det var då dei som lydde Bileams råd og lokka Israels-sønerne til å svika Herren for Peors skuld, so sotti kom yver Herrens lyd.
For they were [the occasion] to the children of Israel by the word of Balaam of their revolting and despising the word of the Lord, because of Phogor; and there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord.
17 Slå no i hel alle sveinborn, og alle kvinnor som hev ått mann eller havt med karfolk å gjera!
Now then slay every male in all the spoil, slay every woman, who has known the lying with man.
18 Men alle ungmøyar som ikkje hev havt med karfolk å gjera, skal de spara, og dei skal høyra dykk til.
And as for all the captivity of women, who have not known the lying with man, save ye them alive.
19 Og so lyt de halda dykk utanfor lægret i sju dagar, og alle som hev slege nokon i hel eller kome nær nokon som er i helslegen, lyt reinsa seg for synd den tridje og den sjuande dagen, både dei og fangarne deira.
And ye shall encamp outside the [great] camp seven days; every one who has slain and who touches a dead body, shall be purified on the third day, and ye and your captivity [shall purify yourselves] on the seventh day.
20 Og alle klæde, og alt som er gjort av ler eller geiteragg, og alle trekjerald lyt de reinsa.»
And ye shall purify every garment and every leathern utensil, and all furniture of goat skin, and every wooden vessel.
21 Og Eleazar, øvstepresten, sagde til dei mennerne som hadde vore med i herferdi: «Denne fyresegni hev Herren gjeve Moses:
And Eleazar the priest said to the men of the host that came from the battle-array, This [is] the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded Moses.
22 Gull og sylv, kopar og jarn, tin og bly,
Beside the gold, and the silver, and the brass, and the iron, and lead, and tin,
23 alt som toler eld, skal de hava i elden, so vert det reint; de lyt berre etterpå skira det med vigslevatn; men alt som ikkje toler eld, skal de hava i vatn.
every thing that shall pass through the fire shall so be clean, nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of sanctification; and whatsoever will not pass through the fire shall pass through water.
24 Og den sjuande dagen skal de två klædi dykkar, so vert de reine, og sidan kann de koma inn i lægret.»
And on the seventh day ye shall wash your garments, and be clean; and afterwards ye shall come into the camp.
25 Og Herren sagde til Moses:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
26 «Du og Eleazar, øvstepresten, og ættehovdingarne i lyden skal taka tal på alt folket og feet som er fanga,
Take the sum of the spoils of the captivity both of man and beast, thou and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the families of the congregation.
27 og skifta det likt millom stridsmennerne som var med i herferdi og alt hitt folket.
And ye shall divide the spoils between the warriors that went out to battle, and the whole congregation.
28 Og du skal taka ei avgift av stridsmennerne: eitt liv for kvart femhundrad, både av folk og av storfe og asen og småfe;
And ye shall take a tribute for the Lord from the warriors that went out to battle; one soul out of five hundred, from the men, and from the cattle, even from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses; and ye shall take from their half.
29 det skal de taka av den helvti som fell på herfolket, og gjeva det til Eleazar, øvstepresten; det skal vera ei reida til Herren.
And thou shalt give [them] to Eleazar the priest [as] the first-fruits of the Lord.
30 Og av den helvti som fell på dei hine Israels-sønerne, skal du taka ut eit liv for kvart halvhundrad, både av folk og av kyr og asen og sauer - av alt feet - og gjeva deim til levitarne som hev umsut med alt det som skal gjerast i Herrens hus.»
And from the half belonging to the children of Israel thou shalt take one in fifty from the men, and from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses, and from all the cattle; and thou shalt give them to the Levites that keep the charges in the tabernacle of the Lord.
31 Moses og Eleazar, øvstepresten, gjorde som Herren hadde sagt til Moses.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
32 Og herfanget, det som var att av alt det stridsfolket hadde teke, det var: sauer og geiter: seks hundrad og fem og sytti tusund;
And that which remained of the spoil which the warriors took, was—of the sheep, six hundred and seventy-five thousand:
33 uksar og kyr: tvo og sytti tusund;
and oxen, seventy-two thousand:
34 asen: ein og seksti tusund;
and asses, sixty-one thousand.
35 av folk - kvinnor som ikkje hadde vore nær nokon karmann - var det i alt tvo og tretti tusund.
And persons of women who had not known lying with man, all the souls, thirty-two thousand.
36 Helvti av dette, den luten som fall på hermennerne, var då: småfe: tri hundrad og sju og tretti tusund og fem hundrad i talet,
And the half, [even] the portion of them that went out to war, from the number of the sheep, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred.
37 so avgifti til Herren av sauerne og geiterne vart seks hundrad og fem og sytti;
And the tribute to the Lord from the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five.
38 uksar og kyr: seks og tretti tusund; av deim var avgifti til Herren tvo og sytti;
And the oxen, six and thirty thousand, and the tribute to the Lord seventy-two.
39 asen: tretti tusund og fem hundrad, og avgifti av deim til Herren ein og seksti;
And asses, thirty thousand and five hundred, and the tribute to the Lord, sixty-one:
40 fangar: sekstan tusund, og av deim i avgift til Herren tvo og tretti ungmøyar.
and the persons, sixteen thousand, and the tribute of them to the Lord, thirty-two souls.
41 Og Moses gav avgifti, det som skulde vera reida åt Herren, til Eleazar, øvstepresten, som Herren hadde sagt med honom.
And Moses gave the tribute to the Lord, the heave-offering of God, to Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses;
42 Den helvti som kom på dei hine Israels-sønerne, og som Moses hadde skift ifrå hermennerne,
from the half belonging to the children of Israel, whom Moses separated from the men of war.
43 den helvti som lyden fekk, det var: tri hundrad og sju og tretti tusund og fem hundrad sauer og geiter,
And the half [taken] from the sheep, belonging to the congregation, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred.
44 og seks og tretti tusund uksar og kyr,
And the oxen, thirty-six thousand;
45 og tretti tusund og fem hundrad asen,
asses, thirty thousand and five hundred;
46 og sekstan tusund fangar.
and persons, sixteen thousand.
47 Av denne helvti - den som fall på Israels-sønerne - tok Moses ut eit liv for kvart halvhundrad av både folk og fe, og gav deim til levitarne som greidde det som skulde gjerast i Herrens hus, soleis som Herren hadde sagt med honom.
And Moses took of the half belonging to the children of Israel the fiftieth part, of men and of cattle, and he gave them to the Levites who keep the charges of the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.
48 So gjekk hovdingarne yver herflokkarne, både dei yver tusund og dei yver hundrad mann, fram for Moses
And all those who were appointed to be officers of thousands of the host, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, approached Moses, and said to Moses,
49 og sagde til honom: «Me hev teke tal på stridsmennerne som me hadde under oss, og det vantar ikkje ein mann.
Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war with us, and not one is missing.
50 Difor kjem me no kvar med det gullet me hev vunne: armringar og armband og fingerringar og øyreringar og kulelekkjor; det skal vera ei gåva til Herren og ein løysepening for livet vårt.»
And we have brought our gift to the Lord, [every] man who has found an article of gold, whether an armlet, or a chain, or a ring, or a bracelet, or a clasp for hair, to make atonement for us before the Lord.
51 Og Moses og Eleazar, øvstepresten, tok imot gullet dei kom med; alt saman var det fint arbeidde ting.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, even every wrought article.
52 Gullet som dei vigde åt Herren, var i alt elleve hundrad merker; det var gåva frå hovdingarne.
And all the wrought gold, even the offering that they offered to the Lord, was sixteen thousand and seven hundred and fifty shekels from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds.
53 Men mannskapet hadde og vunne mykje gull, kvar åt seg.
For the men of war took plunder every one for himself.
54 Då Moses og Eleazar, øvstepresten, hadde teke imot gullet av hovdingarne, bar dei det inn i møtetjeldet og gøymde det der til ei minning for Herren um Israels-folket.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and brought the vessels into the tabernacle of witness, a memorial of the children of Israel before the Lord.
