1 a det led mot den tid at David skulde dø, bød han sin sønn Salomo og sa:

Then the dayes of Dauid drewe neere that he should die, and hee charged Salomon his sonne, saying,

2 Jeg går all jordens vei; så vær du sterk og vær en mann!

I go the way of all the earth: be strong therefore, and shew thy selfe a man,

3 Og ta vare på hvad Herren din Gud vil ha varetatt, så du vandrer på hans veier og holder hans forskrifter, hans bud og hans lover og hans vidnesbyrd, som der er skrevet i Mose lov, så du kan gå viselig frem i alt det du gjør og i alt du gir dig i ferd med,

And take heede to the charge of the Lord thy God, to walke in his wayes, and keepe his statutes, and his commandements, and his iudgements, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and in euery thing whereunto thou turnest thee,

4 forat Herren må opfylle sitt ord, det som han talte om mig da han sa: Dersom dine sønner akter vel på sin vei så de vandrer for mitt åsyn i sannhet, av hele sitt hjerte og av hele sin sjel, så skal det - sa han - aldri fattes en mann av din ætt på Israels trone.

That the Lord may confirme his worde which hee spake vnto me, saying, If thy sonnes take heede to their way, that they walke before me in trueth, with all their hearts, and with all their soules, thou shalt not (sayd he) want one of thy posteritie vpon the throne of Israel.

5 Du vet og hvad Joab, Serujas sønn, har gjort mot mig - hvad han gjorde mot begge Israels hærførere, Abner, Ners sønn, og Amasa, Jeters sønn, hvorledes han drepte dem og utøste blod i fredstid som om det var krig, og lot det komme blod på beltet han hadde om sine lender, og på skoene han hadde på sine føtter, som om det var krig.

Thou knowest also what Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captaines of the hostes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether: whome he slewe, and shed blood of battell in peace, and put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shooes that were on his feete.

6 Gjør derfor som din visdom lærer dig, og la ikke hans grå hår fare med fred ned i dødsriket. (Sheol h7585)

Doe therefore according to thy wisdome, and let thou not his hoare head go downe to the graue in peace. (Sheol h7585)

7 Men gileaditten Barsillais sønner skal du gjøre vel imot, og de skal være blandt dem som eter ved ditt bord; for på samme måte kom de mig i møte da jeg flyktet for din bror Absalom.

But shew kindnes vnto the sonnes of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among them that eate at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom thy brother.

8 Så har du og benjaminitten Sime'i fra Bahurim, sønn av Gera, hos dig; det var han som bante mig så stygt den dag jeg drog til Mahana'im; men siden kom han mig i møte ned til Jordan, og jeg tilsvor ham ved Herren og sa: Jeg skal ikke la dig dø for sverdet.

And beholde, with thee is Shimei the sonne of Gera, the sonne of Iemini, of Bahurim, which cursed mee with an horrible curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but hee came downe to meete me at Iorden, and I sware to him by the Lord, saying, I will not slay thee with the sword.

9 Men la ham nu ikke bli ustraffet! Du er en vis mann og vil nok vite hvad du skal gjøre med ham, så du lar hans grå hår fare med blod ned i dødsriket. (Sheol h7585)

But thou shalt not count him innocent: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to doe vnto him: therefore thou shalt cause his hoare head to goe downe to the graue with blood. (Sheol h7585)

10 Så la David sig til hvile hos sine fedre og blev begravet i Davids stad.

So Dauid slept with his fathers, and was buried in the citie of Dauid.

11 Den tid David var konge over Israel, var firti år; i Hebron regjerte han i syv år og i Jerusalem i tre og tretti år.

And the dayes which Dauid reigned vpon Israel, were fourtie yeeres: seuen yeeres reigned he in Hebron, and thirtie and three yeeres reigned he in Ierusalem.

12 Og Salomo satt på sin far Davids trone, og hans kongedømme blev meget sterkt.

Then sate Salomon vpon the throne of Dauid his father, and his kingdome was stablished mightily.

13 Men Adonja, Haggits sønn, kom inn til Batseba, Salomos mor. Hun spurte: Kommer du med fred? Han svarte: Ja!

And Adonijah the sonne of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon: and she saide, Commest thou peaceably? And hee said, Yea.

14 Så sa han: Jeg har noget å tale med dig om. Hun sa: Tal!

He said moreouer, I haue a sute vnto thee. And she sayd, Say on.

15 Da sa han: Du vet at riket var mitt, og at hele Israel hadde festet sine øine på mig og ventet at jeg skulde bli konge; men kongedømmet gikk fra mig og over til min bror; det var Herren som gav ham det.

Then he said, Thou knowest that the kingdome was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reigne: howbeit the kingdome is turned away, and is my brothers: for it came to him by the Lord.

16 Og nu er det en ting jeg vil be dig om; du må ikke vise mig bort! Hun svarte: Tal!

Nowe therefore I aske thee one request, refuse me not. And she said vnto him, Say on.

17 Da sa han: Bed kong Salomo - for dig viser han ikke bort - at han vil gi mig Abisag fra Sunem til hustru!

And he sayd, Speake, I pray thee, vnto Salomon ye King, (for he will not say thee nay) that he giue me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

18 Batseba svarte: Godt, jeg skal tale til kongen for dig.

And Bath-sheba sayd, Well, I will speake for thee vnto the King.

19 Så gikk Batseba inn til kong Salomo for å tale til ham for Adonja, og kongen stod op og gikk henne i møte og bøide sig dypt for henne. Derefter satte han sig på sin trone, og det blev satt frem en trone for kongens mor, og hun satte sig ved hans høire side.

Bath-sheba therefore went vnto King Salomon, to speake vnto him for Adonijah: and the King rose to meete her, and bowed himselfe vnto her, and sate downe on his throne: and he caused a seate to be set for the Kings mother, and she sate at his right hand.

20 Hun sa: Det er bare en eneste liten ting jeg vil be dig om; du må ikke vise mig bort! Kongen svarte: Kom du med din bønn, mor! Jeg skal ikke vise dig bort.

Then she sayd, I desire a small request of thee, say me not nay. Then the King sayde vnto her, Aske on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.

21 Da sa hun: La din bror Adonja få Abisag fra Sunem til hustru!

She sayd then, Let Abishag the Shunammite be giuen to Adonijah thy brother to wife.

22 Men kong Salomo svarte sin mor: Hvorfor ber du om Abisag fra Sunem for Adonja? Bed da like så godt om riket for ham - han er jo min eldre bror - ja både for ham og for presten Abjatar og for Joab, Serujas sønn!

But King Salomon answered and sayd vnto his mother, And why doest thou aske Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? aske for him the kingdome also: for he is mine elder brother, and hath for him both Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah.

23 Og kong Salomo svor ved Herren og sa: Herren la det gå mig ille både nu og siden om ikke dette ord skal koste Adonja hans liv.

Then King Salomon sware by the Lord, saying, God doe so to me and more also, if Adoniiah hath not spoken this worde against his owne life.

24 Så sant Herren lever, han som har gitt mig denne makt og satt mig på min far Davids trone, og som har bygget mig et hus, således som han har talt: Adonja skal late livet idag!

Now therefore as ye Lord liueth, who hath established me, and set me on the throne of Dauid my father, who also hath made me an house, as he promised, Adoniiah shall surely die this day.

25 Så sendte kong Salomo Benaja, Jojadas sønn, avsted, og han hugg ham ned så han døde.

And King Salomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and hee smote him that he dyed.

26 Og til presten Abjatar sa kongen: Gå til Anatot, til din gård, for du har fortjent døden; men idag vil jeg ikke la dig dø, fordi du har båret Herrens, Israels Guds ark foran min far David, og fordi du har lidt med i alt hvad min far måtte lide.

Then the King sayd vnto Abiathar the Priest, Go to Anathoth vnto thine owne fieldes: for thou art worthy of death: but I will not this day kill thee, because thou barest the Arke of the Lord God before Dauid my father, and because thou hast suffered in all, wherein my father hath bene afflicted.

27 Så drev Salomo Abjatar bort og lot ham ikke få være Herrens prest lenger, forat Herrens ord skulde bli opfylt, det som han hadde talt mot Elis hus i Silo.

So Salomon cast out Abiathar from being Priest vnto the Lord, that he might fulfill the wordes of the Lord, which he spake against the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Da Joab fikk høre om dette, flyktet han til Herrens telt og grep fatt i alterets horn; for Joab hadde holdt med Adonja, om han enn ikke hadde holdt med Absalom.

Then tidings came to Ioab: (for Ioab had turned after Adoniiah, but he turned not after Absalom) and Ioab fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the hornes of the altar.

29 Men det blev meldt kong Salomo at Joab var flyktet til Herrens telt og stod ved alteret. Da sendte Salomo Benaja, Jojadas sønn, avsted og sa: Gå og hugg ham ned!

And it was tolde king Salomon, that Ioab was fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and beholde, he is by the altar. Then Salomon sent Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, saying, Goe, fall vpon him.

30 Da Benaja kom til Herrens telt, sa han til ham: Så sier kongen: Gå bort herfra! Men han sa: Nei, her vil jeg dø. Og Benaja bar bud tilbake til kongen og sa: Så sa Joab, og så svarte han mig.

And Benaiah came to the Tabernacle of the Lord, and sayd vnto him, Thus sayth the King, Come out. And he sayde, Nay, but I will die here. Then Benaiah brought the King worde againe, saying, Thus sayd Ioab, and thus he answered me.

31 Da sa kongen til ham: Gjør som han sier, og hugg ham ned og begrav ham! Så frir du mig og min fars hus fra det uskyldige blod som Joab har utøst.

And the King sayde vnto him, Doe as he hath sayd, and smite him, and bury him, that thou mayest take away the blood, which Ioab shed causelesse, from me and from the house of my father.

32 Og Herren skal la hans blod komme tilbake på hans hode fordi han hugg ned to menn som var rettferdigere og bedre enn han, og drepte dem med sverdet, så min far David ikke visste om det, Abner, Ners sønn, Israels hærfører, og Amasa, Jeters sønn, Judas hærfører.

And the Lord shall bring his blood vpon his owne head: for he smote two men more righteous and better then he, and slew them with the sword, and my father Dauid knew not: to wit, Abner the sonne of Ner, captaine of the hoste of Israel, and Amasa the sonne of Iether captaine of the hoste of Iudah.

33 Deres blod skal komme tilbake på Joabs hode og på hans efterkommeres hode til evig tid; men David og hans efterkommere og hans hus og hans trone skal Herren gi lykke til evig tid.

Their blood shall therefore returne vpon the head of Ioab, and on the head of his seede for euer: but vpon Dauid, and vpon his seede, and vpon his house, and vpon his throne shall there be peace for euer from the Lord.

34 Så gikk Benaja, Jojadas sønn, op og hugg ham ned og drepte ham, og han blev begravet ved sitt hus i ørkenen.

So Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada went vp, and smote him, and slewe him, and he was buryed in his owne house in the wildernesse.

35 Og kongen satte Benaja, Jojadas sønn, over hæren i hans sted, og presten Sadok satte kongen i Abjatars sted.

And the King put Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada in his roume ouer the hoste: and the King set Zadok the Priest in the roume of Abiathar.

36 Så sendte kongen bud efter Sime'i og sa til ham: Bygg dig et hus i Jerusalem og bo der og gå ikke ut derfra, hverken til det ene sted eller det annet.

Afterwarde the King sent, and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Buylde thee an house in Ierusalem, and dwell there, and depart not thence any whither.

37 For det skal du vite for visst, at den dag du går ut og går over bekken Kidron, skal du dø; ditt blod skal komme på ditt eget hode.

For that day that thou goest out, and passest ouer the riuer of Kidron, knowe assuredly, that thou shalt dye the death: thy blood shall be vpon thine owne head.

38 Da sa Sime'i til kongen: Det er rett det du sier; som min herre kongen har sagt, så skal din tjener gjøre. Og Sime'i blev boende i Jerusalem en lang tid.

And Shimei sayd vnto the King, The thing is good: as my lord the King hath sayd, so wil thy seruant doe. So Shimei dwelt in Ierusalem many dayes.

39 Men da tre år var gått, hendte det at to av Sime'is tjenere rømte til kongen i Gat, Akis. sønn av Ma'aka. og det blev meldt Sime'i: Dine tjenere er i Gat.

And after three yeres two of the seruants of Shimei fled away vnto Achish sonne of Maachah King of Gath: and they tolde Shimei, saying, Behold, thy seruants be in Gath.

40 Da gjorde Sime'i sig rede og salte sitt asen og drog til Akis i Gat for å lete efter sine tjenere; Sime'i drog da dit og hadde sine tjenere med sig tilbake fra Gat.

And Shimei arose, and sadled his asse, and went to Gath to Achish, to seeke his seruantes: and Shimei went, and brought his seruants from Gath.

41 Men Salomo fikk vite at Sime'i var reist fra Jerusalem til Gat og var kommet tilbake.

And it was tolde Salomon, that Shimei had gone from Ierusalem to Gath, and was come againe.

42 Da sendte kongen bud efter Sime'i og sa til ham: Har jeg ikke svoret ved Herren og høitidelig sagt dig: Det skal du vite for visst at den dag du går ut og drar til noget annet sted, skal du dø? Og du svarte: Det er rett det du sier; jeg har hørt det.

And the King sent and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Did I not make thee to sweare by the Lord, and protested vnto thee, saying, That day that thou goest out, and walkest any whither, knowe assuredly that thou shalt dye the death? And thou saydest vnto mee, The thing is good, that I haue heard.

43 Hvorfor har du da ikke holdt dig efter den ed som var svoret ved Herren, og det bud jeg gav dig?

Why then hast thou not kept the othe of the Lord, and the commandement wherewith I charged thee?

44 Og kongen sa til Sime'i: Du kjenner selv alt det onde som ditt hjerte vet om at du har gjort mot min far David, og Herren lar nu din ondskap komme tilbake på ditt eget hode.

The King sayde also to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickednes whereunto thine heart is priuie, that thou diddest to Dauid my father: the Lord therefore shall bring thy wickednesse vpon thine owne head.

45 Men kong Salomo skal være velsignet, og Davids trone skal stå fast for Herrens åsyn til evig tid.

And let King Salomon be blessed, and the throne of Dauid stablished before the Lord for euer.

46 Så gav kongen Benaja, Jojadas sønn, sin befaling, og han gikk ut og hugg ham ned så han døde. Og kongedømmet lå trygt og fast i Salomos hånd.

So the King comanded Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada: who went out and smote him that he dyed. And the kingdome was established in the hand of Salomon.
