1 Eno bah, ngah ih chenghang: Rangte ih heh mina ah edut haat tam et ah? Tabaam dut haatka! Nga teewah ah Ijirel mina Abraham sutoom, nyia Benjamin jih ajaat.
I ask, then, ‘Has God rejected his people?’ Heaven forbid! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 Marah mina Rangte ih jaakhodi danjeeta heh mina ah tadut haatka. Sen ih ejat ehan Rangteele ni raangha rah ah, Elija ih Ijirel mina tiit Rangte suh baatta rah ah:
God has not rejected his people, whom he chose from the first. Have you forgotten the words of scripture in the story of Elijah – how he appeals to God against Israel?
3 “Teesu, neng ih an rangsoom theng romthong nyia khowah loong ah thet haat et rumta; nga luulu ba dak lang, eno amadi neng ih nga uh etek haat chung rum halang.”
‘Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have pulled down your altars, and I only am left; and now they are eager to take my life.’
4 Rangte ih heh suh tumjih ngaakbaatta? “Ngah ih nga teewah raangtaan ih haajaat sinet mina lalangka Baal rang lasoomte loongdung nawa ban thiin hang.”
But what was the divine response? ‘I have kept for myself seven thousand who have never bowed the knee to Baal.’
5 Erah likhiik amadi angla: Rangte ih marah heh minchan nawa ih danjeeta dowa ene ko mina loong aba dakla.
And so in our own time, too, there is to be found a remnant of our nation selected by God in love.
6 Heh ih marah suh tenthet ha erah ba danjeeha, neng reeraang thoi tah angka. Tumeah Rangte ih mina reeraang jun ih mok juuje abah, heh tenthet ah amiisak tenthet tah angka ang ah.
But if in love, then it is not as a result of obedience. Otherwise love would cease to be love.
7 Erah ang abah mamah ah? Ijirel mina loong ih neng ih tumjih jamta erah tachotup rumta. Ineeko mina Rangte ih juujeeta loong ah ih ba chojamta; wahoh loong abah Rangte jeng lachaat ih boot tong rumta.
What follows from this? Why, that Israel as a nation failed to secure what it was seeking, while those whom God selected did secure it.
8 Rangteele ni liiha likhiik, “Rangte ih nengthung nengtak ah thungko ih hoonha; erah thoidi amadi uh neng ih tachaat rumka nyia tatup rumka.”
The rest grew callous; as scripture says – ‘God has given them a deadness of mind – eyes that are not to see and ears that are not to hear – and it is so to this very day.’
9 Erah dam ih Dewid ih liita, “Neng sadung phaksat tokdoh phoong abe nah toom nyaan rum ah; neng ah ethet toom ih rum ah; neng echamnaang toom ih rum ah!
David, too, says – ‘May their feasts prove a snare and a trap to them – a hindrance and a retribution;
10 Neng mik ih lakah tup suh edook toom ang rum ah; nyia neng ah roitang ih toom ngookcham rum ah.”
may their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see; and do you always make their backs to bend.’
11 Eno, nga ih chengtang: Jehudi loong banbot rumta adi neng etekdat tam ih rumta? Tatek dat rumka! Tumeah neng rangdah dah rumta adi, khopiiroidong ah Ranglajatte suh thok taha, eno Jehudi loong ah lungwaang thukta.
I ask then – ‘Was their stumbling to result in their fall?’ Heaven forbid! On the contrary, through their falling away salvation has reached the Gentiles, to stir the rivalry of Israel.
12 Jehudi loong rangdah rah ih mongrep adi ehan romseetam thokthuk taha, erah dam ih neng chiiala lam ni chiike rumla thoi ba Ranglajatte loong asuh romseetam ah chojih angla. Erah ang abah, tumthan ehan ang ah romseetam rah ah loongtang Jehudi loong roongroop abah ah!
And, if their falling away has enriched the world, and their failure has enriched the Gentiles, how much more will result from their full restoration!
13 Ngah amadi sen Ranglajatte loong damdi waan halang: Ngah Ranglajatte loong damdoh kaamwah mootkaat ah maangthoon momoh, nga mootkaat asuh khuungpook elang.
But I am speaking to you who were Gentiles.
14 Mararah ngaanok ngaatang loong ah neng khoh pui suh ma lungwaang rumjaoh eah.
Being myself an apostle to the Gentiles, I exalt my office, in the hope that I may stir my countrymen to rivalry, and so save some of them.
15 Tumeah neng loong dut haatta adoh, wahoh loong ah Rangte damdi puiara ang rumta rah heh joonte ih hoonta. Emah ang abah, neng Rangte ih ethang et rumta ah mamah ang ah? Emah ang abah etek ah roidong ih hoon ah!
For, if their being cast aside has meant the reconciliation of the world, what will their reception mean, but life from the dead?
16 Baanlo chep chepkhothoon ah Rangte suh koh abah, baanlo pupan ah nep uh hedoh ang ah; nyia bangheng ah Rangte suh koh abah, heh phaak loong ah nep hedoh ang ah.
If the first handful of dough is holy, so is the whole mass, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
17 Mararah olip bangphook phek ni jiha dowa heh phaak ah kheehaat ano, woma olip bangphaak ah wakrap wan ah. Ranglajatte sen loong ah erah woma olip bang likhiik, eno amadi sen Jehudi loong chiilam laalam ni rongkopkop angla adi roong rooplan.
Some, however, of the branches were broken off, and you, who were only a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and came to share with them the root which is the source of the richness of the cultivated olive.
18 Erah thoih, bangphaak kheehaat eta likhiik loong ah nak jaatjaat kaanju an. Sen mamah maajen ih ngaam an? Sen ah bangphaak ba hanih; heh hing ah sen ih tarongthuung kan—heh hing rah ih sen ah rongthuung halan.
Yet do not exult over the other branches. But, if you do exult over them, remember that you do not support the root, but that the root supports you.
19 Enoothong sen ih li an, “Elang eah, bangphaak loong abah nga tongtheng hoon suh kheehaatta.”
But branches, you will say, were broken off, so that I might be grafted in.
20 Elang eah erah ami tiit. Heh phaak loong kheehaat eta ah langla neng ih Rangte suh lahanpi thoidi, amadi sen tonglan abah hanpi et kanno tonglan. Enoothong erah suh nak ngaam an; erah nang ih bah echo thong ean.
True, it was because of their want of faith that they were broken off, and it is because of your faith that you are standing. Do not think too highly of yourself, but beware.
21 Rangte ih Jehudi loong ah tachiimta marah bangphaak hedongdong ela ah likhiik abah ah; seng bah chiim ehe ih maamok thun jan o?
For, if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.
22 Aradi seng ih sok ih di Rangte ah echoojih uh elang eah eno mih minchan Rangte uh elang eah. Ethetreete mina loong raang ih bah echoojih ang ah, enoothong sen loong raang ih bah minchan Rangte—saarookwih heh minchan nah ban tongruh ih anbah ah. Enoothong sen emah lamok angkan bah, sen uh kheehaat et han.
See, then, both the goodness and the severity of God – his severity towards those who fell, and his goodness towards you, provided that you continue to confide in that goodness; otherwise you, also, will be cut off.
23 Erah dam ih Jehudi loong ah Rangte kowe ih ngaak wangha bah, neng maradi tong rumta erah doh we ngaak tongthuk ah; tumeah Rangte ah emah uh ejen re eah.
And they, too, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God has it in his power to graft them in again.
24 Sen Ranglajatte loong ah woma olip hedongdong ih arah bangphaak kheehaat cho ang arah, eno ejih et arah olip bang damdi we rap wan arah likhiik ang an. Jehudi loong ah langla ejih et arah olip bang likhiik; eno Rangte raangtaan ih bah tumthan elaang ang ah heh phaak kheehaat cho loong ah heh bang bang nah we ngaak rap wan rah ah.
If you were cut off from your natural stock – a wild olive – and were grafted, contrary to the course of nature, on a good olive, much more will they – the natural branches – be grafted back into their parent tree.
25 Nga joonte loong, ngah ih sen suh amiisak husah tiit esiit jatthuk suh nooklang, erah ih senteewah suh tumthan jatwah ah ih naktoom samthun thuk han suh ah. Erah langla Ijirel mina loong jong ajaan tenthun nah roitang tatong rumka, enoothong Ranglajatte loong ah Rangte jiinnah tomthok tuk ih luulu ba tong rum ah.
My friends, so that you don’t think too highly of yourselves, I want you to recognize the truth, hitherto hidden, that the callousness which has come over Israel is only partial, and will continue only until the whole Gentile world has been gathered in.
26 Emamah ih Ijirel mina loong ah puirum ah. Rangteele ni amet raangha: “Khopuipangte ah Jaion nawa raaha eno Jaakob sutoom loong jiin nawa ethih loong ah thoontang matsiit ah.
And then all Israel will be saved. As scripture says – ‘From Zion will come the Deliverer; he will banish ungodliness from Jacob.
27 Arah nuumi jengdang ah ngah ih neng damdoh kakham ang neng rangdah ah matsiit angdoh ah.”
And they will see the fulfillment of my covenant, when I have taken away their sins.’
28 Neng ih Ruurang Ese ah duhaat tungthoidi Jehudi loong ah Rangte puiara ih hoon rum kola, Ranglajatte sen loong tungthoidi ah. Enoothong Rangte thung angthaang di nengte nengwah thoidi neng loong ah Rangte joon awaan ang rumla.
From the standpoint of the good news, the Jews are God’s enemies for your sake; but from the standpoint of God’s selection, they are dear to him for the sake of the patriarchs.
29 Tumeah Rangte ih o mina romseetam kota nyia danjeeta rah suh hethung talengliika.
For God never regrets his gifts or his call.
30 Sen Ranglajatte loong ehak di sen ih Rangte jeng ah takap tan; ang abah uh amadi sen Rangte minchan ah choh elan, tumeah Jehudi loong ih Rangte jengkhaap takap rumka.
Just as you at one time were disobedient to him, but have now found mercy in the day of their disobedience;
31 Erah likhiik, sen ih minchan tungthoidi, Jehudi loong ih Rangte jeng ah daan rumha, erah langla neng ih uh amadoh Rangte minchan ah toom chorum ah.
so, too, they have now become disobedient in your day of mercy, in order that they also in their turn may now find mercy.
32 Tumeah Rangte ih mirep ah heh jeng daante totoh ang thukta, eno ba heh minchan ah loongtang suh je ah. (eleēsē g1653)
For God has given all alike over to disobedience, that to all alike he may show mercy. (eleēsē g1653)
33 Rangte tenthun ah tumthan elong nyia changteng ah! He tenthun mongtham ah tumthan loot ah! Heh kaanthot ah o ih jen jangbaat ah? Heh lampo ah o ih jen samjat ah?
Oh! The unfathomable wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments, how untraceable his ways! Yes –
34 Rangteele ni amet liiha, “Teesu thung atak o ih jen jat ah? O ih heh suh jen reenbaat ah?
ho has ever comprehended the mind of the Lord? Who has ever become his counsellor?
35 O ih heh suh tumjih bah uh jen kot nih eta, heh suh we ngaak themjih ah?”
Or who has first given to him, so that he may claim a reward?
36 Jaatrep ah heh ih dongsiit arah, heh jun ih nyia heh raangtaan ih dong arah. Rangte men ajuuba roitang ih raksiit theng! Amen. (aiōn g165)
For all things are from him, through him, and for him. And to him be all glory for ever and ever! Amen. (aiōn g165)
